I was going to address this a couple of times, but you need pages to put it in perspective not a couple of paragraphs. But the 1950s thur early 60s were very prosperous times for black Americans. Many were moving out of the southern farms into northern factories making a good living. Segregation was actually much more prevalent in the north than the south but the black community pretty much policed themselves and things were calm. Micky Mantel uses to talk about walking home through Harlem after night games at Yankee stadium without a care in the world. The problem was too many were moving north and the Yankee didn't want them. A lot of people don't realize that the epic center for the Klan was actually Indiana and Ohio. That is when the Great society was developed, which was meant to basically pay blacks (and to a lesser extent poor whites) to stay in the south. LBJ use to brag this.
