About 5% of me hesitates to write this team off because of the talent. But still, we now have enough evidence to know that three wins is asking a lot, much less six.

I feel like if we get a decent draw we would make a run to the final 4…but with the bipolar cats and defensive struggles we could also be out the first game

The Cats have the potential to win the championship. Plausible but not probable.

The recent past doesn't exactly inspire optimism regardless of who we have on the roster.

2018-2019 - We lost in the Elite 8 to a 5th seed Auburn without their best player while we have 5 or so future NBA players on the roster.
2019-2020 - No tournament.
2020-2021 - The worst season of Kentucky basketball anyone can remember
2021-2022 - Lose to Saint Peters in the first round despite having the Naismith Award winner in Tshiebwe
2022-2023 - Lose to Kansas State in the second round.

We are more than capable of beating good teams. UNC, Tenn etc. Our achilies heel seems to be poor to average teams for some God awful reason. Therefore, I’m less confident in the first games.

Hope I’m wrong

110% not whoever you are accusing me of being and will gladly see this post come back if I'm wrong, under this exact alias. So you're wrong.

LOL at you accusing others of new accounts when you obviously just opened this one 11 days ago. 🤡

Time to move on. Sad that a kid like Sheppards college career is wasted playing for a douche that can’t win a single SEC tournament game.
His inability to improve the team defense is criminal.

He's wasted the college careers of many players.

Does the Gold Standard = Elite 8?

An Elite 8 appearance doesn’t mean a damn thing.
Agree. Typically an E8 is my bar for a “successful season” or not. Anything less is disappointing and anything more isn’t a lock in a single elimination tournament but we should always be a top 10 team…so between a S16-E8 average over the course of your history puts you in Gold Standard zone and all time leader in almost every category.

But when we haven’t made noise since 2019 and haven’t made a F4 since 2015…combined w the worst season in our history and some nationally embarrassing losses…an E8 isn’t good enough with this team. This is the type of high end talent that is suppose to make the title game or minimum F4 to average out the S16 “bad years” and give you an E8 average. Instead we haven’t touched a S16in near half a decade

The debate used to be about whether we would win the NCAA championship because it was pretty much assumed that we would play in the SEC championship even if we didn't win. Unfortunately, we have fallen so low that we can't get past the first round of the SEC tourney. My how the mighty has fallen!!

I long for the days when predicting an elite 8 would draw ridicule for a totally different reason.

True enough. But it would represent an improvement for Cal's program. We want #9, but I think it is increasingly clear the game has passed Cal by and he no longer has the on floor coaching skills or insight to win championships, even with an elite roster. And, make no mistake, we currently have an elite roster. Despite his limitations as a coach, the man still recruits at a very high level.
Not an elite roster at all. Some elite shooters but that’s it. Way overrated as college freshmen.

Read a post yesterday where someone opined that DJ had a pretty good year. He had a pretty good freshman year for a 4 year player. Nothing more.

Edwards got better but clearly way overrated.

Bradshaw another 3/4 year player.

Dilly lived up to the hype. Reed better than rated.

Cal was happy to let Reeves leave. Team talked him back.

Cal doesn’t even try to build a team. Just recruits 5 stars whether they fit together or not. He’s lazy.

Yeah, funny enough I feel like a worse seed could benefit us. If we make it past the first couple of rounds I actually think we have a shot to do well. I just don't think we can win two in a row against average teams. We play down to our competition too often. I suspect it's because inferior teams know they have to gameplan well to beat us and Cal never has any answers for it.

Expect Shep for 3 more years. Hopefully Cal gone after this one.

If he’s not then maybe Cats are gonna win more than one next week.

Behind closed doors. He will be asked to leave. They’ll figure it out.
They can get rid of him if the AD would stop ignoring his poor performance by going to the press and stating that his performance is unacceptable. It is one thing for fans to bad mouth him, but I don't think he could handle the university criticizing him.

Sweet 16! Then get punked and embarrassed by Houston or UConn in the annual Cal tourney bed shitting game that we all know is gonna happen at some point. With the exception of 2012, we've seen it every year for 15 years now. If it's UCONN, Cal and Hurley will will both get ejected and probably fight at midcourt.
Anybody but UConn dear god. I can’t handle being screwed out of 2 titles and then ineptness causing the other. I’d rather lose to K State or Marquette 10 more times than UConn.

I'll be shocked if we make it to the EE. We obviously have a great offense but the defense is just too bad to go far. We can probably score 90+ on just about every team in the tournament...problem is it means nothing if you give up 105+

I’ll go out on a limb and say this team gets hot and makes a final four. Maybe even win on a heroic shot or 2.

My bold prediction, Edwards will go for 30 one game.
Only with a pencil will edwards make 30
