I do\n't think the concern is the act of criticizing the player...it is that the criticism is coming from the fan base (who almost assuredly has seen very little...if any of said player's games) of the team that is trying to convince him to come play there.

"Come play there? You mean where they say I suck before they even see me play? Nah..."
Says the same player who wants seven figures…they really care that much about what some fan writes on a message board? If that is scaring them off then they couldn’t handle a sha tv timeout huddle. Also, compared to other message boards, seton hall has some of the most polite fans.

From the same site:

Adam Clark = 154
TJ Simpkins = 237
Elijah Fisher = 260
Trey Parker = 394
Stephon Payne III = 463
Jacob Dar = 730
Josh Rivera = 948
Pat Suemnick = 1157
A.J. Staton-McCray = 1409
Those numbers are actually off because the website is using projected numbers for next year on transfers from last year. It also includes guys who may have eligibility next year in the 5 in 5 rule. That's why AJSM shows so low because he doesn't have a projection for next year as he isn't eligible in the proposed 5 in 5 rule.

But your overall point is fairly correct in that most of our guys last year were rated higher than Del Jones is this year.

Offensively, Del Jones is a lot like the type of lead guard Sha seems to gravitate to. Not a good 3-point shooter, solid playmaker who can get penetration and draw fouls. His shot selection is terrible but like most talented players on poor teams, he had a very high usage rate and was asked to do a lot.

His shot profile is similar to Budd and Kadary in that he takes a lot of shots in the midrange and in the paint. His best attribute is he has length and craftiness to get shots off at various angles and he uses his pivot well. All of that equals to drawing a lot of fouls and shoots 81.7%. I'm sure Sha loves this aspect.

His downside is his shot selection, his overall low shooting %, his high TO rate and his poor defensive metrics.

He comes from a 16-16 Radford team that was 257th overall in KP. They played a very fast style and took a lot of 3s. Jones was given a lot of room to attack in the middle of the floor.

Overall, his efficiency numbers on offense and his poor defensive metrics don't paint a great picture of a guy ready to step up from the Big South to the Big East. He does have talent though and does some things that Sha can try to accentuate. If he comes to Seton Hall as a piece of the puzzle, he can have success. I doubt he would have a 30% usage rate at SH like he did at Radford. For comparison's sake, as much as Budd dominated the ball for us, his usage at Merrimack was 35.7% and was 26.1% at SH. That's a major difference. If Jones has a similar difference the hope would be he could improve some of the shooting and turnover numbers. And although defense is a concern, Sha can make a decent defender out of most good athletes.

One thing I will add is he has a trait that we lacked last year - an ability to create for himself. Last year, Budd was the only guy who could break people down off the dribble. If Jones could play with another guard who can also create for himself and others, it would take pressure off both. Hopefully that is the plan.

If Shaheen is going pure socialism again - which seems to be the case - our team is going to suck on paper. Same as last year.

Fit will be key. We will need multiple guys who can dribble and create their own offense. We also need a lead guard who can run an entire offense himself (like Kadary and Budd). Del seems to fit that mold.

This feels like a Shaheen player.

So you're suggesting players are reading message boards of potential transfer destinations? I'm sorry, that is pure BS. AND, if a player DID read a board and was turned off by negative comments, then why not stay and prove how wrong the criticism was?

Traditionally I bought into laying off harsh criticism of college players because they were student athletes. But they are no longer babes in the woods. They are highly paid (increasingly overpaid) professionals. They have little or no loyalty to the schools they choose. They get a bag to come play for one year. Eff 'em if they can't take a little criticism.

I have no idea if they read these message boards, nor I suggesting anything. I’m merely explaining what their point is and why they see this is harmful.

This is not a player that was here so contrary to your point about why not stay? There’s no place to stay. He hasn’t been here yet.

We are still wooing this player. The concern is that he becomes aware of the message that the fans hate you already. Why go there.

And frankly, I don’t know. Why would you go someplace like that?

i'm so sick of this. you guys are so dumb. everyone wants 80% shooters from 3. we don't have the money. we don't have the money. we don't have the money. guys are reclamation projects because they have shooting percentages that make the idiots on this board whine
Please,

I find overly homer posters who think it is appropriate who call fellow board members disparaging names, just as offensive as overly negative posters resorting to name calling.

JD, a big but important task for you, as you take over for the great Halldan is to improve the culture on this board. Attack the idea, but not the person.

Itsacurse, it is time to own up and apologize to long time poster Hallline69.

These are the transfer rankings from last year at this time based on projections, nothing to do with any this year potential 5 year players.

Jacob Dar was sought after by Gonzaga supposedly at no. 730. Seems strange.
It's all strange but over the larger amounts of players it's a decent guide.

Building a T-E-A-M is just as important, maybe more important.

The rankings of Seton Hall's transfers at this time last year was not all that bad but the total was greater than the sum of the parts due to coaching/teamwork.

I'd like to see us go after multiple playmakers since we cant seem to afford proven guards who can shoot. Add a strong offensive guard like Tijan Saine and another bigger, playmaker or shooter, maybe like David Terrell. Terrell can't shoot but he's a strong defender and playmaker. Both are guys who should be in our price range.

That would give us 5 guards to play a 3-guard offense. Terrell, Wilcher and Trey are strong defenders and Jones, Terrell & Saine would give us 3 guards with offensive playmaking and bucket-getting skills. Only Saine is a good shooter but Wilcher and Jones could be average 3-pt shooters in a dynamic offense with multiple playmakers. I also like the dynamic of 3 big guards and 1 small, quick guy to drive the defense crazy.

Gives you 3 guys who can beat players off the dribble and make plays for themselves and others. Add a couple of Forwards who can hit open 3s and rebound (I'd take Sydnor if he's still in play) and a couple of Bigs who can do the dirty work inside.

We aren't paying for stars and great shooters seem out of our budget so stock up on playmakers. We should be able to afford 9 guys like that for $8M. Not going to win us the Big East but that would be a better overall backcourt 1 thru 3 than this year. Can you find 4 quality players at the 4 and 5 to split 80 minutes for $3.5 M? Don't know but unless we find a few suitcases of cash, it may be our best bet to build a winner.

Your point would be much easier to respect if you didn't have to resort to sophomoric name-calling and absurd exaggeration (80% shooting).
