Defensive Approach Vs. Purdue...

We've often given open threes to teams this year because we're more focused on locking things up in the paint/lanes and/or due to help d/doubling/hedging. But this Purdue team can really catch fire with the deepball at home, so the last thing we need is for them to be raining threes all game. So what do we do? Stay at home more, switch on screens etc. and focus more on their guards? Do we sacrifice those corner threes still?

I think you make a good point. One of the reasons we are doing so poorly on the road is because we do give up open looks from deep and teams are usually going to shoot for a higher percentage on their home court. But 30 games into a 31 game season, I'm not sure you can change the leopard's spots. Just gotta play our game and hope they don't get hot. Maybe I'm wrong. We'll see.

I read somewhere in a story about the Maryland game that we fought through screens in order to put pressure on the three point shots. That formula seemingly worked so I wouldn't be surprised that we used it again.

That's what we need to do, Carter/Johnson helped by locking down the post, letting our guards defend the three. We have to trust that those two can do it again.

If we can defend as we did at home against Purdue we can definitely lift this road monkey off our backs. Not many believed before the season we would be this close and produce the excitement at the RAC as we have. Purdue is probably one of the strangest teams I've seen this year and they are a totally different team at home. They can shoot lights out one night and they can't throw it in the ocean the next. They have three unique big guys who each bring something different and are also flawed at the same time. I fear Doucoure may see some time as I think Williams, Haarms, and Bordeaux will be getting some homer calls down low. Johnson needs to play as much as possible and if he fouls out, so be it.

My gut says we follow script on the road and play 20 minutes of "dear in the headlights" first half basketball and then make a run and fall short. I'm hoping we see the same urgency we saw Tuesday instead.

i dont know---seemed like maryland got off a ton of open outside shots it just worked in our favor that they missed alot more than we're accustomed to having missed against us.

The guys busted their asses to get through screen Tuesday night.

That is the difference instead of relying on a switch or help which in turn leaves a corner man or wing man open depending on where the ball is.

I think the game plan was good as were the rotation on tuesdya.

they did a great job and not saying their D didnt cause the outcomes, but maryland still missed a bunch of open shots which differed from our track record of having the teams make more of those against us.

Agree with the above that we did well against the 3 v Maryland. On a given night they’d likely make a couple more but for a most part they were contested or at end of shot clock.
