Each game that we play is becoming more obvious that this team just doesn't care about learning how to play defense! It's all about effort and their effort is focused on offense only. The lack of defense and missing free throws is all that's keeping this team from being a great team. I just hope we start to show improvement soon.

The 1st 33 minutes were not good but that last 7 minutes was one of our best defensive stretches of the year. Bam rotated and blocked some shots and Gabriel cleaned up the rebounds. Hopefully something we can build on.
Auburn simply missed shots the last 5 minutes. Those were shots they were hitting all game.
I certainly didn't see any awesome defense to cause those misses.
I just did not think this team would get beat off the dribble as much this year as they have. I'm sure youth has a lot to do with it. I just hope we can get better by tournament time.
Fox is very lazy on defense. If Bam blocks shots like the last 7 mins, we'll be much better, though.
LOL at the OP . WE held them to under 50% that is what you are supossed to do . If you hold your opponent to under 50% and you shoot over 50 liken good teams do you win. WE have a top 3 O and a top 15 D . Not many teams are top 20 in both. It is impressive but it seems people only notice the stretches were we play bad on D. They happen but overall we play well. Those last 7 minutes were a thing of defensive beauty. Also AU has got some damn really good players.
I guess may be I'm just over reacting and expect too much, but it just frustrates me to watch us get beat off the dribble so easy game after game.
I really wish our fans could just enjoy this team. They are an absolute treat to watch.
Cal said tonight they need another month...not buying the defense will be any different in 30 days , but who knows.
True, I watched 2012 National Championship game and if Davis and Jones weren't blocking shots all game we would have lost that game....I forget how much of a rim protector Davis was.

Saying the NBA doesn't care about defense is silly. Defense is why Deandre Liggins is in the league. Bruce Bowen, Dennis Rodman are a couple of examples of players that had very nice careers because of their defense
I get it with all the stats saying how good we are; but Stevie Wonder can see we can't stop people from driving to the basket at will.
Waiting for UK to come on, I watched a lot of the UNC-Florida St game; FSU would give us trouble with the way they can drive or hit the outside shot. I feel we would beat them, but not without playing our A game though.

Having issues with keeping guys out of the lane tho is ONE aspect of defense.
We've had this issue in the past too. We just had better shot blockers in years past.
But 31st overall in effective fg% against and 66th in turnover % forced. It's not the marks we are used to, but it's certainly not awful. And it's very comparable to other teams defenses that are title contenders.
A 14th ranked d to go with a 2nd ranked offense isn't bad at all

Those ignoring the poor defense by this team have some serious blue shades on. UK was really bad today and against Vandy. I don't recall ever seeing a UK team give up this many layups and straight drives to the basket. It is an issue. Honestly, it's what will keep this team from a title if it doesn't improve. I am really shocked how bad they are on defense.
I agree that we need to improve on certain aspects of defense and I too get very frustrated during the game. However, we score enough to compensate for those deficiencies. We've only given up more than 80 pts three times and we won 2 of those games. We've only been held to under 87 pts TWICE all season. It may bit us in the butt come tourney time, but somebody is gonna have to play pretty good defense against us while scoring big themselves.
Duke and Wisconsin didn't play much D two years ago. They played for the title while UK's great defensive team sat and watched. Just saying. Offense wins championships.
We are giving up layup after layup. It would be different if teams were hitting a bunch of threes. come tourney time, defense is usually what gets you to where you want to go. UK is just out talenting teams right now. UK offense is only getting better. Defense is not, that's a concern.

Cal can't make up his mind on how to play the ball screen switch everything or hedge and recover. He's tended to switch everything and our bigs can't guard anyone's littles.
