The amount the US spends on defense is a justifiably hot topic when it comes to broader budget conversations. Does the current state of the world change your opinion, or at least influence your position on whether the US spends too much on defense?

We’re currently supporting an invaded European country and helping them repel a superpower and what was thought to be the 2nd greatest military in the world.

We’re projecting power in the Middle East amidst conflict between Israel and two horrific terrorist organizations, and tensions with several Arab countries. Including Iran, the largest state sponsor of terror and core member of the axis that would oppose the west and the US.

At the same time, we must be able to project enough power to deter an invasion of Taiwan from China, another global superpower.

All of these are worthy causes. And there is absolutely nobody else in the world who can check these piece of **** countries and regimes from invading and killing friends of the west. It’s only the USA.

The challenge is we are spending money on other countries defenses where we have no governance or ability to track the spend, ie Ukraine for example while also sending money to countries that fund terrorism (Iran, Pakistan, Palestine, etc) . The Ukraine burns through weapons at an alarming rate due to smaller troop numbers in comparison to Russia. That's going to be a larger challenge as that war marches on.

At this point, if we have to go to war in the middle east (if Iran gets involved, that's the logical next step) while ensuring protections at home and in foreign interest places where we have Americans in say Europe and Asia, we would have to enforce a draft and declare full war on Iran. All of our forward operating bases in the middle least and likely even Africa would immediately be attacked and we would lose the ability of forward mobility which puts us at a huge disadvantage.

At this point, we have no other choice but to ramp up the defense budget. We are creating too many enemies who are all starting to unite against us.

Long way of saying I don't see how we don't spend more on defense over the next 3-6 years.

This part grinds my gears. If you want money and aid from the US, get your **** it line.

Palestine (before this **** show) - if you want even $1 of aid, get Hamas out of power. Your choices are Hamas leadership and $0 or no Hamas and hundreds of millions from the US of A.

Iran shouldn’t see a dime from us until there is absolutely zero funding for terror groups, clear transparency into their nuclear program, etc. Nothing. Nada.

You either play by our rules or operate without our money and resources.

As someone who received a bill (out of the blue) two weeks ago from the IRS that had the words "do you comply" written on it, I'm pretty much pissed anytime I see frivolous government spending.

Chicken or the egg. You don’t give the PA money, and Hamas takes over anyway. Same with other situations.

Agreed on Iran. Their intentions are quite transparent. Get a nuke, expand their conventional power projection, and push us out of the region.

Without writing a War and Peace length reply

Just let me say the US needs to have every Western Country spend at least 2 % of each countries GNP for the next 10 years minimum

As much as I hate to keep sending Money to Ukraine it is bleeding out the Russians ability to make war

Also the war is pointing out the differences in military hardware Western **** is badass when compared to Russian

The biggest changes coming in warfare obviously is cyber and drone warfare

Along with germ chemical and biological

We definitely need to ramp up support to Taiwan

There is huge amount that needs doing

Not forgetting Israel which we need to keep under our wing

Need to get in bed with Saudi Arabia

Iran sanctions and clamp down on them

Hit any nuclear facility they cannot be allowed to get a nuke

If possible arm rebels against the present regime

United States spends roughly $900 Billion on defense every year.

China is second place, spending about $250 Billion.

China's spending is hard to quantify. Not exactly known for transparency over there. They can also do more for cheaper than we can.

Germ chemical and biological is illegal. With that said, we are decades of knowledge behind China here.

I did not say we the US would use it

Look for China to drop a bomb called COVID 2.0 in the future thanks to testing a prototype on the world by an accidental lab leak

There are also many munitions that are outlawed

China will also ignore those laws

Look for China to dominate the Far East in just a few years by threatening and bullying
