Since Day 1 for Cal. Can't wait until we get a coach that employs a real offense.
Right. Says Murray, Herro, Aaron, Quickley, Monk, Knight, Knox, lamb, Bledsoe, Wall and more. Players that can play are just fine in Cal's offense. Players that can't play struggle. Here and everywhere else.

But let's play the "modern offense". Like Ark and Alabama and UConn that is exactly the same as ours.

Just different when you look thru the CHC lens.

LOL at OP this will be Cal's best shooting team ever at UK . We will have at least 3 guys shooting in the 40-45% from 3 and 4 or 5 guys around 75-85% from the line .
If we have 3 of those guys, we will be tough to beat. I see 2. Not sure on the 3rd.

We shot 36% from 3 and that's with Reed missing a few wide open looks and us not having a clue about the offense yet. We'll be fine. We have multiple guards/forwards who can shoot.

You get a grip you and big card fan the most negative people on this board. It was only first game so you can't really take too much out of it.

You weren't impressed lol. Based on the ONE EXHIIBITION game?

lol
The last two years Reeves has shot 38% and 39%
Tre Mitchell is around the NCAA average.

I mean it's probably more than likely those two hit their averages.
Shep by all indications is going to be a good/really good shooter

We'll be fine lol.

Who will our shooters be? Not real impressed with anyone so far.
Reeves will be fine, everyone else will be streaky outside of Sheppard I could see him being consistent and Mitchell shoots very well for a big man. Very nice to have a true stretch 4. Cal should take notice and recruit dudes like him more often.

Shep didn't exactly light it up from 3 tonight, nor did Reeves, Mitchel looked best from 3.
One game. You see Sheps form? That form aint gonna miss to often. That jumper in the lane? Soft as butter. Thats the touch of a good shooter.

Reeves can shoot. Mitchell is a luxury.

I am telling you, Hart might possibly be the best shooter on the team.

I agree Sheppard can shoot, we have about 4 guys I’m confident shooting about whenever they want and a couple streaky ones.

We got shooters and guys who can make shots, but we don’t have a coach who runs an offense to free them up. Too much one on one again. Maybe if we can get the 7’ back, they can run some in to out and get more open looks.
Nope, we will clog up the middle more, I can’t wait to see what offense he runs with 2 7-footers at once.

What offense should we run??? What offense fits our current team the best??? I’ll hear crickets and you won’t respond because you’re a troll.
Shhh, don't distract him, it is hard enough for him to take time from his coaching job to enlighten us and tell Cal how to coach.

I think we will not be nearly as strong in this area as the announcers were saying Friday night.
We will be deep in capable shooters, but not in good shooters

Elite (44%+) - no one (we've had 4 do this in a season in the 2000's, Lamb twice, Miller & Willis)
Very good (38-43%) - Reeves (yes streaky but most are)
Good (34-37%) - Sheppard, Mitchell, Hart (but won't play much)
Adequate (30-33%) - Edwards, Ivisic, Wagner
Passable (26-29%) - Dillingham, Theiro, Bradshaw
Don't shoot it (<26%) - Onyenso, Burks

So as a team, I expect us to make about 35%, 32% excluding Reeves. Since 2012, our teams have ranged from 33.3%-36.6%; the past 4 years 34.3, 33.6, 34.7, 34.7.

⬆️ This is the reality. That 36% that some are touting vs Georgetown in the second half is not the herald our grand arrival as an outside threat team.

It’s a reasonable estimation of where our ceiling is with this team. Yes, we will have some better nights than that as we gain comfort in some kind of offense and as the odds begin to play out. But we shouldn’t be expecting too much better than that too often. Or even that itself too often. It took us wearing down an NAIA team by making them guard our bigger guards a whole half AND having more of our capable shooters in at one time and playing off each other than we’ll generally want to (because our front court is ganked atm) to get to that 36%.

It’s decent but who knows how often it will be there for us on that level. Here’s hoping we won’t need it to be.

You know damned well this won't happen. 7-footers to Cal = back to the basket post up all night long. And if there's a kick out, the recipient will just dribble drive it back into the fray and miss an easy layup.

Wash. Rinse. Repeat.

But to answer the question from OP - we have plenty of deep threats. All listed above. We just have no idea if Cal will run any consistent plays to get them open once he has his 7' back to the basket 1980s NBA style pound the post lineup wet dream back in his head.

I really wouldn’t be surprised if Mitchell leads UK in threes made this year. He’s going to be a stretch 4 or 5 and will get quite a few open looks when opposing defenses don’t get out on him.

Who will our defenders be? Passers? Hustlers? When will the team skills mature? Moving without the ball? Filling the lanes. Rebounding. Going for 50 50 balls? I can go on with 20 more things vastly more important than fretting over who is gong to jack threes. Without executing, they won’t hit them. Without conditioning, they won’t hit them. Without passing, they won’t hit then. Without defense it won’t matter what they hit.

The game is basketball not Three Jack. This ain’t PlayStation.
