Pope is brilliant. He knows this guy will get hurt and will get him a year 4.

On all seriousness, seems like a solid get as long as we have good shooters around him.

This is unfortunately one of the pitfalls of needing to build an entire team out of the portal. Every now and then a Yaxel type will be available, but for the most part, you’re going to be picking from players who have flaws instead of NBA ready studs. I think the injury concerns are valid with Thomas, but it’s not clear there’s an abundance of better options for a team that needs a starting PG. Most of the services have him ranked as one of the best available at the position right now, and he’s drawing interest from other power conference teams.

I hope you’re sitting down for this…

it was a shoulder injury lol

If its scar tissue in his shoulder, move on. If it was scar tissue in his foot ok. I've had 2 debridements in my shoulder. Probably need a 3rd, That **** sucks. Not that his experience is my experience.

40+% assist rate with a sub 12% turnover rate.

There are few players with that trait.

Perimeter shooting is meh and defending is a question mark. Took a plurality of shots from midrange. Better shot selection will go a long way without even needing to improve the 3 point shot all that much.

Aberdeen and Butler had their most efficient shooting seasons playing for Pope. Thomas also shot over 80% from the line. That gives some hope for finding gold in our pocket.

For Michigan, Yaxel was important, no question, but nailing Mara and Johnson as well made them dominant. Both guys were productive with limited minutes before joining Michigan. They weren’t all conference starters for their respective teams. They were highly effective backup/rotation players for major teams. Michigan plucked players on the precipice of stardom.
