IMO, that's just how I see it, he never calls the TO late game, unless he's put in a position to where he has no choice. Think back over the years of how many times he said he should've called a TO, he doesn't know what to call or command during one. BW simply out-coached him, as did JUCO Bob, Bo Ryan and many others. He's bringing in far less talent than he has over the past few years and as of now, that looks to be the case for next year as well.

That is what is so great about this country.....you don't have to watch this train wreck if you don't want to.....of course you wouldn't have anything to whine about......

It's a number of things, losing with the USA team this past year hurt a lot more than many realize and I believe very negatively impacted recruiting going forward. He's losing the top five-ten players more consistently now and I honestly don't see him ever winning a title again.
You are on a roll for sure......man I don't know how many names this site let's you put on the ignore list, but I will surely fill mine up with posters like you........

I agree, he's too stubborn to win unless he has absolutely DOMINANT talent on the floor, AD and the gang had a drive like no other team he had, they had phenomenal talent and played to their potential - driven. I don't see him getting that again, hell, this year you could tell these kids lacked a lot of fight, passion and drive to get better, not all, though it was noticeable with some.
Oh, yes great knowing basketball genius...........tell us what wasn't noticeable to the unknowing.........surely someone with your insight into basketball is a coach? You need to pull your head out of your *** and quit blowing yourself up..............

Check out the top ten recruits over the past few years and get back to me. No doubt, Duke and others are leading to get the most elite, AD, JW type of players right now. When the NBA ceases the one and done, it will be Cal's demise, than coaches that coach players up for 2-3 seasons will dominate the game. He won't be able to get the elite players and it will be then on coaches who are exceptionally strong X and O coaches, of which he is not.

This is really dumb. This is conventional wisdom according to you. Cal did well at Memphis and Umass with four year players.

That was 10-20 years ago. Even then he still had to have atleast 1 elite player to have a great season.

Wrong, Cal had Camby, Bright, Dingle, Travieso and Padilla - they were stacked! Memphis, he had several very highly ranked players during his tenure there, routinely had a substantial roster with a lot of talent.

Exactly, thanks some of the folks on here, it's you're a moron or if you don't live on this board daily, you're a troll. I was away for nearly a decade off and on, yeah I missed a lot of years posting, wow - now since I don't have "likes" during most of my posting from years ago, I'm a loser and troll, laughable.
Once you can say it to yourself you are on the road to redemption.....Type it several times so you understand......."I'm a loser and a troll"...........then let it sink in moron....

Which great team or NC didn’t have elite players?
I’m talking NBA elite. The two teams he’s most known for at Memphis and UMass had the #1 and #2 overall draft picks. This idea that Cal used to win with a bunch of 3 Star type players is crap. He’s always needed superior talent to cover his deficiencies as a coach. Cal likes to say he can’t hide you to the players but he needs to look in the mirror and say it.

We get it. You don’t like Cal. That’s your problem.

Phil and Zay seem very angry with all other posters here.
Nope. Only when someone attacks me personally for my opinion on Cal or the team just because it’s different from their own opinion. Or if I see someone being a jackass to another poster and they’re obviously in the wrong doing so.

Doug Gottlieb on Colin Herd show this morning

"Doug Gottlieb in for Colin:

Coach Cal not getting it done with one-and-dones

John Calipari was heralded as a college basketball revolutionary for fully embracing the one-and-done era and turning Kentucky into the glamour destination for top high school prospects, but after getting bounced in the Sweet 16 by Kansas State, the shine is wearing off.

For all their talent, Kentucky has now only made one Final Four since 2012. Doug thinks Calipari has a problem."

Anyone that puts stock in anything that Gottlieb says needs to reassess who they listen to and who they take with a grain of salt......because he is on TV doesn't make him credible......

Does that include when you are being a "jackass" to another poster yourself (and you are obviously wrong)?
Have you ever done that yourself?

I must have missed the top pick Jay Wright had 2 years ago. More often than not the NC doesn’t have the top draft pick. Sure they all have great college players but never has and never will be able to win with just great college players. Hell he won’t even recruit a guy unless he thinks they’ll be in the league in a year or two.

I’d be able to live with his deficiencies as a coach if he weren’t so stubborn and learned from his mistakes but he doesn’t. Like the deal with free throws. How many times do we have to lose in the tournament because of terrible free throw shooting before he starts making them shoot free throws in practice? Don’t even get me started on the whole “not watching tape” thing.

I'm sorta cracking up at the "declining recruiter" description.

Because I notice the OP fails to mention that what he's "declining" from is by far the greatest recruiting run any coach has ever had in the history of the sport, which is exactly what his recruiting was his first 6 or 7 years here.

Well, you know, anyone would be declining from that, because there's no place to go from the very tip top of a mountain but down. But the fact remains that he's still a better recruiter than 99 percent of the other coaches out there.
Thank you! Some of the posts in this thread wants to make your head explode. "A declining recruiter" He gets the top or 2nd best class every single year, yet his recruiting is declining? Plus they don't want One & Done's, then cry when Duke signs them. WTH?

Look at some of the injuries that occurred over the recent years: remember Willis and that ankle picture, TJ when he turned his ankle in the NCAA tourney, nasty looking, Bogans in the SEC tourney. JV just comes across as soft, just does - he was more concerned with self preservation than anything else.
Do you ever read your post before you hit the send button? "JV just comes across as soft, just does - he was more concerned with self preservation than anything else." And the fact that the young man is looking out for himself bothers you? Who is supposed to look out for his future? IF he isn't. then he is dumb as hell. Are you a doctor? You are a F'ing know it all about basketball.....I guess you also have great knowledge in medicine, sports medicine, physiology and psychology?

Check my post history. Find an instance where I attacked someone for their opinion first. Like I said, I only go after someone that makes it personal with me first or if I see someone going after another poster when they’re obviously wrong. As was the case originally in this thread.

Extremist narratives on either side of the current Calipari outlook are dangerous and shortsighted.

Cal is an incredible coach and leader. His system needs some minor tinkering, starting with targeting a sprinkling of kids who are willing to commit for four years (there are hundreds nationally who would commit to that prospect).

Your narrative is too one-sided to be taken seriously. Cal has proven himself time and again. His overreliance and trust with his young players is a curse/blessing, in that it is also the primary reason they come to play for him in the first place.

I’m actually surprised you’re painting such a bleak picture. I have a hard time understanding the overreaction from some of you, given the full body of Cal’s work.

"Hell he won’t even recruit a guy unless he thinks they’ll be in the league in a year or two." Damn you Cal.........why do you insist on getting the best players that you can? Do you actually believe the drivel you post? Or is it that you are just a contrarian? An antagonist? It just seems to me your take is almost always the dumbest.

Folks need to understand this. Kentucky makes the coach not vice versa. The stage at U.K. is what has elevated cal. Considering the levels of talent we have been land we are already in a “dip” rd of 32, elite 8, sweet sixteen. Hell that can be done by any top tier coach at U.K. cal is the guy who coupled with the name should get over the hump and win titles. He hasn’t been doing that on the heels of that 2015 season that created a major void.
If this is a genuine take, I’m left to wonder how you cope with life day to day. Good luck.

I hate this fanbase sometimes.

This is one of those times.
Yep. We have this fringe element which is not only dumb, but belligerent and hateful about it. A first ballot Hall of Farmer, who is by any reckoning the best or second best coach in the country since he got here, and they want to run him off. That’s the stupid part. The belligerent part is represented by the story I heard Jones tell while driving home from Atlanta yesterday. One of our “fans”was on twitter harassing one of Cal’s daughters yesterday. The guy informed her that Cal is a POS coach. Out of curiosity Jones looked at the guy’s history, and 3 of his last 5 posts were about the “love of Christ.” So much is wrong with that story it would take too long to list them all. Point is, there’s a segment of society which is just awful. All fan bases contain some of that segment, and since our fan base is one of the biggest, it contains more of them than others. Is it 1%? 5%? 28%? Who knows. They are a loud bunch, when give a chance.....

We really do have some of the dumbest fans on planet earth.
If these idiots really are UK fans then I agree with you. But in the real world off this message board I don’t run into fellow UK fans like this. UofL fans are the only ones I know that are this stupid.

I agree with the original post! Cal has blown at least 3 titles! The 2015 team had zero business losing to anyone that season...Almost lost to Notre Dame in the Elite Eight and then the worst loss I’ve lived through In 33 years to Wisky. Look at the talent on that team and tell me how you lose to anyone??? Oh and how about 2010 and 2014?

Blown opportunities!!
Thank you !

Will this thread be resurrected later?

Very possible, in four to five years from now when everyone realize what some of us already see. We peaked under him and anything from this point forward is going to be similar to this past season or less. They'll likely be a breakout season or two, though they'll end the same as this year, with Cal talking about it's his fault and he should've done something differently AND his players were exceptionally young.

As ive said before il say again there are ALL kinds of fans. Most fit into two catagories, the ones who no matter what happens always think everything is all sunshine and roses and either don't wanna think out side the box, or are afraid to because they will be bashed to pieces so they're are followers and love to bash the second group or any other group.

The second group do not care that this is just a message board and not a middle school popularity contest, this group asks Questions. They love their program and coach but do not agree blindly with everything Coach says or does. This group are leaders, not followers and you can't change that. This group usually bashes back at the sunshine pumper nothing is ever wrong group for being out of touch Robots.

The other groups consist of people who actually say stupid things anywhere from i hate this team, coach, to we.will.Not.Lose.Another.Game. And we will go 40-0 EVERY year. Kwilt and kooky cats for example.

There are all types biggest thing is just because you fit into one of the catagories, you're still a UK fan at the end of the day. This board cracks me up and in the middle of it all you got Jrowland himself dropping in to start threads while people are at each others throats and he doesn't address it LMAO.
