Football Declarations for 2024-2025 Two-Year Cycle (Updated 11/30)

Even though silver lake will be playoff eligible in 6 man their choice is a bit of a head scratcher. A lot of the upper classmen are big kids that played a lot the last 2 years and now get to look forward to limited playing time over the next year or two.

I understand the two year exemption....but Bridgeport being eligible for 8 man with their number at 73 is comedy. That number puts them above the C1 champion Boone Central....and yes I understand NG isn't with Boone going forward and that is why their number is where it is, but still just hilarious to compare.

I don't think Superior would be ineligible if they played 8-man. Their mid-cycle number this year was 47, which means they were eligible. I *think* that makes them eligible again for another 2 year cycle, based on the terminology below. That would bump Sandhills Valley down to D2, wouldn't it?

Couldn't agree more. Proves a broken system once again...Teams like Alma took the 1 year exemption because their boy count was 1 over 47 last cycle. Now this coming cycle are Ineligible with count of 50 but Bridgeport gets to be eligible for playoffs this cycle with 73!!! Woof! Crazy to me Bridgeport went from 39 to 73 in two years...Nearly doubled their boy count in a two year window...

Superior would be ineligible, you have to be under the #47 for enrollment the first year of the cycle.

Thanks for clarifying this. Do you know where the language is that says it has to be year one? The only language I could find was this letter H piece that says "during the preceding". I assumed that mid-cycle numbers would fall into that terminology as "during" the prior classification period.

Not sure where it says it, I had to ask that same question to the NSAA when we were determining to go 8 or 11 man in this cycle.

I’m sure this gets asked every new cycle but what determines if you get the “grace period” or not? How is someone like pender eligible but twin river is not? Or Alma ineligible but plainview is eligible?

You must play at least one two year cycle at or below the maximum cutoff (47) to be eligible for playoffs. The following two year cycle if you are over that number of (47) you are given the “grace period”. If you are over the enrollment the following two year cycle you would be ineligible, but could become eligible if your enrollment is less than the (47) year 2 of the cycle. Year one of the two year cycle you will be ineligible, year two you become eligible. This is what happened to Superior this last cycle.

Giltner had a meeting Tuesday night about their proposal. Redo/add onto the existing school also put in a track and new football field. 21.7 million bond issue. I have seen the tax numbers and offta to be a land owner in the area.

In 2021-22, their 9th-11th grade had 99 kids. So theoretically 49.5 boys. Wouldn't take much of a gender imbalance at all to get them under 47.

Last year's 8th-10th (this year's 9th-11th) had 126. Theoretically, 63 boys. And it wouldn't take a huge gender imbalance to get to 73. Plus, it looks like their high school has grown by 20 kids the last several years. So last year's 248 in the building may very well be 268 or higher.

According to the numbers that were sent out, the boy # was 73 and girl # was 61. The last 2 year cycle number that were taken, the boy # was 39 and the girl # was 60. So it appears there was just a couple classes stacked together that there was a dramatic dip in boy # and now it seems to be swinging the other way. 2 cycles ago, the Bridgeport boy # was 60. It's a very odd anomaly, but not totally crazy to think that this is actually a normal bump of about 5-6 boys in a couple classes from the normal enrollment number.

Leyton dismissed their Sup. a couple of years ago and it caused a division within both communities (Dalton and Gurley), so some families sent their kids to Bridgeport. They were C2 last year in hoops. They were C1 in boys hoops in the 2021-2022 season.
