This had to be a difficult choice on Decker. With him, he’s walking a way from a scholarship. The other guys are just transferring. They aren’t walking away from $ so to speak. Decker is. Even if he’s a rich kid whose parents can afford college, no one likes to spend that kind of money. And some of the cheapest people I have met have been filthy rich.
He could have easily just went threw the motions of football and not really gave a crap and remained on scholarship. Showed up for practiced but gave little effort. Showed up for weight training but gave as much effort as he desired. Kids do this. Kids have done this @ Nebraska (and recently).
They show up to NU and realize to be good at that level, you have to really work at it and they don’t. They just decide to skate by for 4 or 5 years and get their degree paid for. It’s complete BS and it’s what I hate about guaranteed scholarships. It teaches kids things that don’t exist in the real world. All the while you’ve got some walk-on busting his butt and more talented then some half-*** / not caring scholarship player.
So yes, this is very big of Decker to walk away from this.
