Yeah, but that game was +/- 10 years ago.

I don't think we've really turned many heads with our 2012 Gator Bowl, 2013 Advocare Kickoff, 2015 Belk Bowl, 2017 Gator Bowl, 2019 Outback bowl, etc.

Nah. It seems as almost none of you can understand the full argument I put forth. You read the piece of it you want to and blab away. “I like N.O. You’re an idiot.” “We made $1 on a road game, so it’s a win.” You missed the WHOLE argument.

We got away with paying ULaLa for $500k last year in exchange for a home and “home” where we gambled on ticket sale revenue in the the Dome. VERSUS paying a Sun Belt or other team to come to Starkville twice for $1M-$1.3M both times. Forget the Dome experience for the moment. We gambled with a win playing away from home this year for, AT BEST, a push. And likely we lost potential revenue. Starkville businesses lost A LOT this weekend.

Here’s what I hate about this board and ALL the others. If HD6, DS, Todd, or one of the other high count posters makes this same argument, you would all be slobbering all over them talk about how smart they were. It’s not me looking for a reason to *****. It’s a bunch of you looking for a reason to ***** at someone of your own fan base without even understanding the whole argument. Maybe I give the posters here too much credit for their intellect. I assumed most of us went to State and aren’t sidewalk fans that only made it through 6th grade. Seriously. How many of you would bash HD6 or JoelT if he questioned this on T&L? None.

Not necessarily true, but since your entire argument boils down to some opinions mean more....duh, they are in charge and people are banned for dissent.

So what would be your argument if game was in Lafayette?

You are the one that doesn’t understand, chief. The economics of scheduling are sending us on the road for one non-conf game a year. Next year it’s at NC State. Year after is Memphis. 2022 is Arizona. 2023 is Tulane. And so on.... one year is P5 on the road, next is non-P5 on the road. Starkville didn’t miss a home game, Chief. The only other option was Playing ULL in Lafayette, so I think we made a wise decision. We are going to have 7 home games in Starkville for the foreseeable future.

Everyone would bash them if they had a dumbass take like this. If this game would've been a home game it still would've been played at 11 AM and it would've been 95 degrees and we'd have had 30K in the stands by halftime. Instead it was 72 degrees in a dome where they served alcohol and we got a good trip to NOLA out of it. There were far more positives for this trip than there were negatives. First off, if this game is played in Starkville then you're not introducing anyone new to the MSU brand. It also gives your LA alumni base a chance to see a game closer to them. Secondly, I guarantee if you asked our players if they would've rather played that game in the Superdome or in Starkville you would've gotten an emphatic answer to play the game in the Dome. Third, we have a bunch of players from LA. This could've been some of their family members only chance to watch them play. Lastly, WE WON. I'd much rather work out the road kinks against ULL than on the Plains Week 5 against Auburn.

We know you read these boards. Please DO NOT schedule another game in New Orleans against a G5 opponent. Our fans are incapable of supporting this team if it inconveniences them and they don’t anticipate it as a must see game. The attendance was crap. We could have put 70,000 State butts in seats and changed the entire atmosphere of the game. The atmosphere was dead. The drinks and food were outrageous (I’m sure the same as the Saints game charges.) My wife and I went and spent a lot of money in New Orleans. We had 4 really good meals. I’d rather put that money in Starkville than see us walk out with a L against ULL, Tulane, or Southern because only 10,000 fans showed up and we lost our home field advantage. Schedule Texas or USCw in the Superdome and MAYBE we can get 50,000 to show up. If we lose, at least it will be a “quality L.”

I was there.

Attendance was announced as 22,000, but looked like more.

MSU fans outnumbered ULL fans at least 3 to 1.

$11.50 for a beer is crazy. $15.00 for a shot of bourbon even more so.

But a comfy 68 degrees in the dome sure beats the heat we will endure Saturday vs USM.

Im ok with opening up at a neutral site indoor arena, regardless of draw or opponent.

So bottom line..... we loaned ULL $500k last year for them to rent the dome this year. fAs a result MSU was able to market the gulf coast and New Orleans fans. Also provide other State fans a road trip to New Orleans for a game we won.

Sounds like a win.

We still have seven home games. Starkville businesses lost nothing. When have we had 8 home games in a 12 game season?

2013. It’s possible every other year. We have SEC network money that makes this possible every other year when we play the P5 opponent at home. We don’t have to play at Troy, UAB, Memphis, or MTSU. We’ve done all of those recently and everyone bitched about it. But again, I like the idea of playing in the Dome if we can make it full of State fans. If we had blown this game, the same idiots on here talking about what a great time they had would be trashing the AD for scheduling this game this way and saying how much the trip sucked.

Could not disagree more. Between UL and Tulane I wish we played in NOLA every year. Good for recruiting too. My wife and I went yesterday and a blast.

Better go back and look at 2013, Chief. 7 games in Starkville. 4 on road and 1 neutral site (Houston vs Okie State).

Auburn and Alabama are each paying So Miss right at $2m per game as a “buy” game. Yea, we have SEC money but we are being responsible in our schedule like investing in facilities and other sports

Yep. Missed the asterisk on that. Should’ve had my screen rotated. I didn’t remember playing them at home, but that’s been too many years ago for my old brain.

Exactly this. We may be getting SEC money but we’re not in position to throw way an additional 1.2 million. These mid tier teams are getting harder to schedule because they either want a 1-1 or a butt load of money. I can’t believe this is still being discussed.

the same idiots on here talking about what a great time they had.

warrior calling people names? I thought your post was a stupid thing to complain about but never called you a name. So why don’t you come out from behind that screen name mr badass and tell me why I’m an idiot for saying me and my family enjoyed the game?

You really posted that opening line calling out AD lurkers and thought you’d get praise on here?

Terrible take - New Orleans is a great place for a road game.

This is the same argument that people who live in south MS, south AL, and LA use now for early games. New Orleans & the suburbs has at least 100,000 more hotel, Air B&B, etc as Starkville. And you’re at least half wrong if it was a late game. I say half because it would be the same argument (getting home at 3:00 am). Some would stay overnight on Saturday that couldn’t on Friday because of high school games, etc.

A lot of people will stay late on Saturdays for reasons you mention. A lot of people can't stay on fridays.

Maybe you haven't been to an 11 AM home game in a while, but attendance is usually down for those games, too. I'm not bitching and complaining about the game time, just explaining that this is why the attendance wasn't as good as it could have been. It's a factual statement.

I enjoy the games in Nola too and wish we played Tulane more often down there. It's a lot of fun. The morning kick offs hurt attendance a bit though.

I’m agreeing with you. The last game I remember our fans flooding a stadium other than Davis Wade was that Gator Bowl. Since then we seem to have grown accustomed to not traveling to all the Bowl games, and that’s not a good/bad judgement, just a fact.

There is some truth to this. Music city bowl, liberty bowl, and first gator bowl were well attended, but the others were pretty damn disappointing. We need to start doing a much better job...just not sure how you motivate a fan-base to travel. We have been a bit spoiled with our bowl streak, but you can only sell your trailer so many times before you run out of liquidity

This may be my favorite thread of all time. I too believe we should only play home games. 12 football games. Could you imagine the money we would make hahahahaha.

But even a program like ULL - their price is too high.
We're paying USM $1,200,000 (Bama's paying them $1,800,000). So, the cost to do 2 I-A buy games would be about $2,500,000, and that's what it would take to avoid the every other year road game at a LA Tech or vs ULL in the Superdome. This wasn't a bad deal for us, even with the low attendance. And at the time this was scheduled, ULL was filling the Superdome every time they played there. We didn't know their program was going to have the ACT scandal and probation.
