Will he get a waiver due to his coach no longer being at the school?

Yes. Any of these guys who have lost a coach is almost a shoe in for a waiver. I know people say different but I can’t think of a time in recent history where the ncaa did not grant a waiver after a coach left

How about listing a few recent ones where the player transferred to a P5 school?

Athletes in action?

That's a loss I always forget about from that 2003 team.

Bernard Cote got some big minutes (throwback name)

Pretty sure the AIA game was an exhibition game
Maybe it wasn’t, but I remember it as such

UK did not lose to AIA. They lost to Team Nike in 2002/2003 season. I was (unfortunately) at that game.

I didn't even think about his hometown being only a few hours from Baylor's campus.

Some pretty good info in this Q&A KSR did with his coach and mentor.

• Coaches are comparing DeAndre Williams to Lamar Odom.
• Kentucky’s first phone call came Sunday, but still made the final cut
• Decision expected this week
• “Kentucky is the elite of the elite, the mecca”
• Spotlight is not an issue

I like what this kid gave Evansville from an assist standpoint. He averaged almost 3 assists per game. At 6'9" 200 lb, I could see him giving us a nice weapon at the 4 spot. He and Keion would push each other in practice. Even if he didn't get a waiver, you have him waiting in the wings for next season with a full year under his belt.

I hope Calipari continues the transfer tactic. Get guys in, let them practice for a full season, and then turn them loose the next year.

If he plays immediately, it's all the better.

This season and the almost complete roster turnover may have been the final straw for Cal. Taking a proven transfer over rolling the dice on marginal high-schoolers who bolt after one season (or half season). I like this new shift in his plans. Still for the elite of the elite, but have seasoned guys ready to go with them. Cal can save himself some ulcers, maybe

I'm of the persuasion that taking second tier freshmen is mostly a lost cause. We know Cal sees the contribution probability in guys like Herro/SGA/WCS and that's fine; but I'm mostly talking about the Quade Green, Johnny Juzangs, Jamerl Bakers, SKJs, Isaac Humphries. These guys are barely cracking the rotation, and they don't stick with the program.

Might as well do what you mentioned in your post - go fill roster holes with transfers who you can train for a season, and then turn loose in their first year of playing. They get a season to learn how to navigate "the grind', and then they are unleashed in year #2.

You obviously continue to push for the Kumingas of the world as your primary pieces, but your supplemental pieces begin to look more like the seasoned Jacob Toppin as opposed to raw and "immediatist" (from a playing time level) Johnny Juzangs of the world.

No more wallflower divas, please and thank you.

I completely agree. For every SGA and Herro, we get 25 Whitneys, Juzangs and Greens. There really is almost no benefit in trying to recruit a high schooler as a role player or bench depth. Anselem is a prime example of this. He's barely rated, but sees himself as the next Olajuwan. Forget those kids and go take a mid-major's best guy. And have a full roster, for a change. No more having to play a spoiled, underperforming freshman because he's all you've got.

That’s where talent evaluation comes in.

So something has to give here are we still looking to land Frank Anselem? If by some miracle we get Sarr and Williams do we still give up our last scholarship to Anselem? I know Cal usually likes to keep one open for a surprise reclassification or midseason edition.

This kid can flat out ball. He was only 6'-7.5" and 180 coming out of high school in Texas and had schools like Houston and Florida St looking at him. Both of those schools have had recent success. He is a small forward who has now grown to 6'-10" and 200 lbs. But he still has the small forward skills, This is why he looks so good on tape, and he schooled Nick Richards and our bigs in Rupp last year. He really jumps out at you on tape from that game.

And the nba lockout.
People always overlook that. That contributed as much to the 2012 banner as almost anything else. Jones and Lamb were a huge part of that team. And Jones, at the very least, would not have returned without that lockout

no but they are about to change the transfer rule anyways, they almost did it last week. Dont underestimate that.
Do you understand what "automatic" means? In didn't say he would not get a waiver, just that it's not automatic like some people seem to believe.

Sometimes with you, it's like talking to my kid. I did not say automatic, so please stop putting words in my mouth, especially when you say "do you understand". You are blending multiple people's posts into your response. I said don't underestimate the fact that the NCAA is about to, and almost did change the rule last week. So it's different now than it was a few years back, there is a good CHANCE that this kid gets a waiver. How much more clear could I state that to you.
