I've been saying for months here either we have the "football dumbest " players in all of division 1, or we have the dumbest coaches.
The players reflect the coaching. Teams like Alabama and Clemson play smart and disciplined. I doubt their teams are filled with a bunch of Rhode's scholars.

They are filled with 5-star players. I don’t like to bag on the players, or the staff, but here is a question for you. Did Frost’s teams play dumb and underachieve at UCF? Did these same players under achieve and play dumb here under Riley?

And I’m not necessarily against changing the DC, if we stick with the 3-4 so we don’t have all the square peg round hole issues we have now. Just pointing out these issues have been here for a while and didn’t come with this staff.

His players weren't very disciplined at UCF either. Yes they under achieved and played dumb under Riley, but in different ways than they have the last 2 years. Going by the defense specifically, our players are making the exact same mistakes as the guys at UCF made.

From his bio...

A trademark of Chinander’s UCF defense was creating takeaways. The Knights forced 58 turnovers in 26 games under Chinander, ranking second nationally in takeaways in 2017 and 18th in 2016. The 58 takeaways over the 2016 and 2017 seasons combined ranked third nationally. UCF was one of only six teams to force 25 turnovers both seasons and one of just eight teams to rank in the top 20 nationally in takeaways in both 2016 and 2017.

In helping the Knights to a perfect 13-0 season and a conference title in 2017, Chinander’s defense played a major role in the first perfect season in school and American Athletic Conference history. UCF led the AAC in defensive touchdowns and ranked third in the AAC in scoring defense and pass efficiency defense.
Just playing devils advocate here. Could those take aways be the result of AAC who doesn't believe in D. Many times scores are in the 40s and 50s. To score that many points that frequently you need a ton of offensive possession. The more you have the better odds are that you are going to lose some to turnovers. In the BIG where is a slow as molasses, grind it out game plan it is going to be harder to get turnovers.

A lot of defensive players are on special teams, and the problems we have on special teams reflect a lot of the same problems we have on defense. The missed tackles and not knowing where guys are supposed to be on defense are the same things we see from our kick return and punt coverage teams.

I cant put anything on the ko coverage unit this year when the kickoffs have been so bad.

BS...none of the defensive players kick off...we have the worst kicker in all of football at kickoff and punter...not much better at field goals right now either. Go and watch the tape...we don't have a ton of missed tackles...in a bunch of games we outgained our opponents but still lost, that is field position. And now we are wearing out because our defense has to play special teams and defense. And each time our kicker kicks it to the 15 we have to cover a kick. And we never return kickoffs. Fans who overlook such important factors lose all credibility. The greatest NFL team statistically(2010 chargers) never even made the playoffs...special teams and turnovers.

Frost poo poo'ed any talk of coaching changes at his press conference today. This staff by and large will stay the same as long as Scott's assistants want to be here.

While that is probably true, there is no way any coach would say anything else in the middle of the season.

How do you explain last year where our coverage units have up a ton of plays? They've improved a little but they're still bad. We couldn't even get it past the 15 when we returned kicks against Ohio State and that wasn't all because of their kicker.

Agreed he can say whatever he wants during the season. It doesn't mean he's not going to make changes in the offseason.

We aren't getting him, but deciding to invest heavily in big time coordinators was Clemson's roadmap to where they are now.
Exactly. Dabo got tired of “Clemsoning” and shelled out big money for top notch coordinators and assistants (with a little bit of money for recruits & PED’s too), which is something Frost needs to do too.

This is a system, the defense is a part of the system. The defense is supposed to bend and not break while trying for turnovers. The offense and defense in this system are supposed to work together in a way that we win games with scores like 52-49, we don’t have the offensive talent to make this system work. It’s not time for a new system yet but y’all need to get over the idea that Frost can stay and change the defense into a juggernaut.

If you have a system designed to give up 49 points, it's not a very good system. This isn't Oregon or UCF. We have a tradition of playing great defense with the Blackshirt tradition. The defense should be able to win games all by themselves if needed. This notion that the defense should just sit back and let the offense win games shouldn't exist at a place like Nebraska.

Urban Meyer has called it a good system, I’ll take him over you every ******* day of the week.
