Day After Positives and Negatives

Positives:

1) Haarberg: Wow. Considering our first two games, his arrival has been a joy. Like any new qb, there are things to work on, but really love what he is doing.

2) Fidone: There were times where I wondered if he would ever arrive, but now that he has I am really pleased. Big, fast, sure handed target.

3) Grant: This guy was finding tiny holes that didn’t seem to exist and breaking away. Awesome rb.

4) Tony White and our whole defense: Really no negatives with any aspect of this. They didn’t get help from the offense the first two games, but what this crew is doing so far is amazing.

5) Buschini: Doing awesome. This guy is going to make a huge difference in field position battles with our defense.



Concerns (negatives seemed harsh):

1) O line: With their run blocking and pass blocking issues I recalled the line from the Bobs in Office Space: “What would you say you do here?”

2) WR: Not sure who is going to be the primary threat here. No one has really emerged and there have been drops too.

3) Field goals: We looked a little shaky here though the fake was beautiful.

I would say Kemp IV is a primary threat, if he can stay healthy in B1G play.

Yeah, I think the first play from scrimmage they whiffed on a block and gave up a sack. That was pretty much how the game went.

I don’t know why we can’t run WR screens/bubbles to get some of our young athletic WRs the ball in space and couple those with the occasional sideline go routes to keep the def from totally crowding the LOS

Yeah, hopefully. They are going to need to do something different because Haarberg is getting no time.

Also, I would like to see a reduction in how much Haarberg is running. Injury here would be bad.

I thought the defense played ok. I think LT had a good game plan with quik hitting pass plays to offset the rush. They did have athletic skills players. To bad we couldn't have held onto Crawford. I'm liking what I see out of HH. He tends to throw the ball high an awful lot. But I think that is a big part of receivers not getting any separation. At least there not getting picked off.

I may get killed for this one. But I thought the line did play a smidge better in the second. But I think they are going to get eaten up by Michigan's dline. Hopefully they can draw up some outside run game against Michigan with all hands on deck from HH and Grant to some receivers screens and or jet sweeps.

We have to attempt diversify the offense at least a little.
I don’t see a lot of other options when you have an off line that can’t pass block, an inaccurate QB throwing downfield and starting WRs that can’t get any separation while their more athletic backups are on the bench

Need quick- low risk throws

You also maximize the numbers advantage of a running QB with spread formations to keep defenders out of the box

My two concerns are both on offense with what I seen…

I do agree with HH arrival being refreshing but a part of his game is concern number one for me, and that his option game… every option is turning into QB keepers, even on his long run he probably should have pitched it, LT had a read, dude just flat out missed the tackle. Now don’t get me wrong I love seeing HH out there, and think he needs to keep playing, but that is a concern as we will play against harder hitting teams and better tackling teams.

Second concern which is by and large my biggest one, Turner Corcoran is still starting and starting at LT… I’m sorry but this kid can not pass block for nothing and he’s supposed to be protecting the QBs blindside. There has to be more serviceable options, or at least someone that can get their hands on their assignment instead of letting a DE steam roll our QB un touched

I watch too much CFB and our talent & La Tech's talent are WAY inferior.

I hope this isn't the case, but it most likely will be exposed next week. We may feel what Colo & Io_a are feeling right now. Sore ******** & such....

Everybody has athletes now. Everybody is on TV now and the portal allows guys with talent to find a spot to play instead of languishing on the bench. Kids have finally realized that the NFL will find them IF they can put it on video

Our chances for a W against such a team don't look very good, but we have zero chance to win if we don't play 'em.

I agree with the positives mentioned in the OP. The defense can play but have had about four or five bad series. The offensive running game is a marked improvement. We are able to get some chunk plays that we haven't had in a long time. (Although we still have too many negative running plays.)

Our passing game is atrocious. Sims throws into coverage, but Haarburg can't hit the open receiver. Our receivers are indecisive and don't run themselves open. And the agility of our oline is painful to watch. The decent teams will make us one dimensional and force us to throw. When that happens it's going to get ugly unless something changes.

Some of that is his blocking ability. So far our WRs are having trouble getting open it seems.

I think they were better than Minnesota. If we would have turned it over 4 times Saturday, we would have lost that game too.

This. If we don't have Coleman emerge as a player that we are willing to try to stretch the field with, the run game is going to get strangled.

Please explain to me how a glaring lack of talent is his fault. You have a average guy in Washington. A keebler elf with no breakaway speed and a walkon with no experience. It's no a excuse, it's a fact. This isn't a video game . I wonder if Iowa fans had discussions about this , as they rarely have good receivers. Losing Castaneda, and Betts were huge . We got one guy who can stretch the field. Now you have to have a rookie QB to get it to him and a miserable Oline to give him time. Reality sucks and I can't phantom how some of you think it's a coaches fault.
