Don't know how much weight they would have put into Kaz's text coaching, because Kaz never coached them. Also, Riley and staff were already coaching the spring ball session when Carlos and Khalil were still throwing shot and discus for Blue Springs High.
Oddly, Hank Hughes was probably a pretty good DLine coach and had very productive years against the run when he was at UCONN (when UCONN was still decent and playing in the Big East). I don't think the guy was big on recruiting and wasn't a fit for Lincoln. Parella was a rookie coach the next year, then the year of Diaco weirdness (a FUBAR event that stands out in the years of uneven coaching), then Dawson, now Tony.
This will be the second year in the same scheme, that will help a bunch. NU has a lot of experience. Elder Daniels has 30+ games of experience, as does Carlos Davis. Khalil and Stille have played quite a bit as well, and the younger Daniels and Deontre Thomas show a lot of promise. Would be great to see the Dline be a bright spot for the team.
