Feels like this was pretty obvious given how soon the season starts. At least he's been here 6 months and is clean of the hazing situation.

This leaves the door open to re-hiring Fitz, if after further investigation the evidence of hazing is lacking, and Schill is also fired. Unlikely, but not impossible given the hire from within.

Hope he is getting a big pay raise. This was really the only internal option that was palatable.

Will he handle both DC and head coaching responsibilities?—kinda feels like he is being thrown to the wolves.

The bridge has been almost completely burned.

Only way it somehow gets undone is if as you said: both Schill and Gragg are fired by December. Ryan (and son) and other big donors take control of the process of hiring another president/AD with the mandate to rehire Fitz.

Hate to say but just seems like such a remote possibility right now and the stench of the hazing allegations will last forever on Fitz (unfair if the evidence shows that possibly what we know from the Daily was exaggerated but that's a reality).

Fitz era is 99% likely done. That 1% is a true Hail Mary.

Other thing is rehiring Fitz would prove just as contentious as firing him has been. That's why you almost never see these kinds of things undone. There'd be large parts of campus (professors/some parts of alumni base/parts of student body) that would never accept this kind of "donors take the wheel of the University to rehire Fitz" situation.
