An at heart west coast guy. Nice. Just like Riley at Oregon state and frost at Oregon/Stanford. 6-6 is good enough for trev.

Had been my first choice, now having second thoughts..
The buyout is a toe stubber. Add to that his recruiting wasn’t great this past year. The more I read about him and the more I listened to him the less impressed I became. I think he’s a good coach but IMO if we’re serious about winning we need to look at either O’Brien or Herman. IMO O’Brien has the best resume and would be a relatively good fit for a fan base that wants a hard nosed football team

If you can’t hire Nick, Urban or Bill you do the next best thing by hiring one of their coordinators who know the recipe for the secret sauce. .

So this week we've confirmed that both Bill O'Brien and Dave Aranda are done deals.

No but there’s zero doubt that we’ve talked to their representatives. Mickey and Busch are both tight with Aranda. The more I look at it the more I don’t think Aranda is a realistic possibility.

Look at the messes they inherited. Their resumes are very very good and deeper than other available gettable coaches.
they both took over historic blue bloods, lets not act like they rebuilt Rutgers or Kansas.

Franklin has already proved to be a much better coach than O'Brien, and PSU isnt even happy with him.

aranda as hc, mickey as oc, houstons dc.......I think they all were lsu

University of Houston?

Their DC is Doug Belk. He never coached at LSU and his Defenses at Houston have not been very good the last couple years.

I think Aranda was an excellent DC at Wisconsin and LSU and has some great experience at the collegiate level. Still not 100% sold as a HC. Would still like to see what he can do without Rhule’s recruits at Baylor. Good guy though by all accounts and definitely could do worse. Has recruited in the Big Ten, SEC and TX and is a west coast guy which covers a lot of important ground. If he is tight with Joseph and could keep him on staff would be a huge plus from a recruiting standpoint. I believe I did read somewhere in the past. that he was a much better coach than recruiter.

O'Brien walked into a complete mess at Penn St.

Scholarship reduction, recruits leaving & players could transfer (15 of them ended up leaving) without having to sit out a season. Silas Redd, Justin Brown, Anthony Fera & Khairi Fortt were the main studs lost to transferring. Amazing they went 8-4 quite honestly.

oh I got him mixed up with corey raymond....but some houston fans were saying belk is good at dc....and when the name houston is used I think recruiting. we won't take ut's dc, or another bigger school...right not that would be a sideways move...but we might be able to get houston's...plus that way aranda could just focus on being a HC and use his dc skills here and there..

At this point.

If we cant get Urban.

I'd rather just have Mickey.

None of these other candidates are any better.

Big 10 was much weaker then. Purdue, Illinois, Indiana and Iowa were easy win doormats compared to now. To his credit, he beat good Northwestern and Wisconsin teams.

I just don't see a high ceiling with him, and coupled with the fact he'd probably bolt for the NFL if he sniffs 9 wins makes him unattractive on the whole when there are other guys who both view Nebraska as a final destination as well as achieve greater success.

Aranda is as green as his colors on Saturday. Rather have Mickey if TA is chucking coins in the wishing well.

Yes, this is correct. Given the working relationship between Busch, Joseph, and Aranda from LSU in 2019, Aranda makes sense as far as realistic possibility. Plus he has Big 10 experience (former Wisconsin DC) which AD Alberts has stated is something he'd like to see in the next HC. Do I think Neb. can do better? Yes, but Aranda wouldn't be a terrible choice

Raymond is a really good DB coach. Not sure we could get him back, unless there is a coaching change at Florida.
oh duh...I did'nt see aranda had the #11 dc...I guess if aranda went to NU, the dc would follow him.
