This is obviously good news but are things just not going to work out with Kinney? He is ranked 14 in one recruiting service and he is from Kentucky. On top of that, he played with JJ last year.

Seems to like UofL more. I’m not sure Pope has made him the number 1 priority either.

The question of modern college basketball now: Is he better than a portal pg who is three years older and averaged 18 points starting for another Division one team?
Probably not, but we still need to build a base with freshman and he is one of the elite guards in the class. I love his game and would love to have him. He’s the type guard who may not be pro material after a year but could develop to be a Alijah Martin or a Walter Clayton Jr. in a couple years while providing depth and stability to our roster. Almost nobody would have said SGA would be as good either but he turned out to be as great as almost any guard in the country.

Kind of the way I look at it as well.

Seems to me if you're going to take a PG out of high school then you need one of two things to be true (other than him being a great PG prospect in general). Good leader, court vision, handles, change of pace, etc that can be developed.

1. He's a John Wall, Zion, Davis, etc. level player. Always take those guys and surround them with experience and pieces that complement them.

2. He is a great shooter and can play off ball as a combo paired with an elite transfer player in the backcourt so it's not all on him. Allowing him to mature into the role without costing the team heavily. I think Jasper fits this, paired with Lowe.

Another reason recruiting high school players is secondary in today's game.

I’m not concerned with recruiting now. Pope will get the right pieces. He recruits and picks transfers to suit what he wants.

With Calipari, you had to pay attention to recruits. His coaching sucks so badly, you knew he had to get the best players, just to have a chance.

Ideally he would be the backup 1/2 behind Lowe. Play the 1 when Lowe needs a break. Plus he can play off the ball as a scoring guard so we could play both together. My realistic dream 27-28

Lowe / Rippey / Soph transfer
Jasper / transfer / Chandler
Kam / Maximo / Noah / Hawthorne
Stokes / Mo D
Major transfer / MM / Potter
