Don't know much about NC State's OLine
Obviously the QB helped some by not being developed as a passer but was a decent performance by West Virginia's DLine

Most of errors were with the LBs

I do think they need to get more athletic on the 2 ILB positions.
I think when Cowan returns the Bandit position would improve.
Stewart is decent and has experience. He comes from an elite HS program.

Everybody needs to get more athletic with the inside LBs.
I think this is the common theme in college football the last few years.
Problem is some of those big 4.5 guys at 230 can't cover.
Some of the better box safties have problems getting off blocks against mobile OL or big Tight Ends.

Agree. I don’t know how much Shea Campbell played but think he’s stronger than the other 2 we’ve played at MLB so far. Cowan will be a big help.
I like the Koenning D - where DL attack more upfield. DL has gotten consistent pressure.
CB has also been a position of strength so far. Washington and Bailey have really shown they can play man press. And at Safety, Martin and tykee Smith already look really solid. tykee knows his assignments, is physical in run support and can cover too. The play on third down when we were in a zone and he stepped in and nailed the wr to knock out the ball was a Great play.

Our LB recruiting has taken a hit due to injury and frank underperforming. It will get fixed over the next couple years.

The problem with the D you run is the seems. What they refer to as the CAT and SPEAR being caught in man coverage against an athletic WR and a QB takes the top off.
NC State couldn't do this. Not many teams have these QBs.

This is why the D or a variation can be very good especially against the run.

Next week against Kansas just can't let their run game get going.

Brown has mentioned many of these areas that need upgrading. Two areas that I'd like to see an upgrade in are team speed and strength. We've been out toughed for several years and now seem to be a step too slow. I thought both those areas showed when we play JMU to a near draw...two evenly matched teams, one a P5 and one a D-2. Some of the speed will improve with players getting more time and their confidence building.

So what is the problem with the defense Texas runs where LSU had their way offensively with the Longhorns?

I'll stick with the Pollyanna approach. The team looked far, far better against North Carolina State than it did against Missouri. It's a work in progress always. And this was immense progress over games 1 and 2. Keep climbing that mountain!

Man coverage on the outside.

It was the fact that Joe Burrow is near perfect with a clean pocket so you have to bring pressure. It worked some of the game and even worked when things went bad.
But Burrow stepped up into the pocket to make the throws

Ohio State had this problem last year and they went with a 4 man front and zone coverage.
I don't like it because an accurate QB can find the pockets in the zone.

It is forcing the QB to make tough throws. Some QBs have the ability while others do not. Burrow is a 5th year senior who can go through his progressions very quickly.

Other two games Texas' starters haven't let up a single point
Both La Tech and Rice scores two TDs against the third string late in the game.

Thing with Dante is with as little as I know he seems taylor made for a tackle spot in a 4 man line, we play a 3 man line really I dont think fully best for him, but he still stands out. Hes a stud. Hes 3 inches taller and every talking head in the country is talking about him, but hes still an NFL talent. Just a machine

Both are legit.
Dante is a lot more athletic and has a high ceiling.
Looks like a 4th round or 5th pound pick but could end up first or second by getting more agile and keeping his power.

Should be working with a top level speed coach for OL and DL in the off-season

These Stills brothers are special players. The defense clearly feeds off them when they are playing well. If they keep getting better each game watch out! Looking forward to their progress the rest of the season.

Matters the QB.

The problem with pressure without the blitz is experienced QBs already know where the pressure comes from so they have an escape plan.

Blitzes cause confusion and block the ability for the QB to escape.

But that leaves you opened on the back end so if a QB who can step into pressure can find open WRs downfield.

Just matters the team and the QB.

Truthfully think the ability to take that vision away is the key.
