Teams that wouldn’t normally get in, that will this year and can win playoff games…

Their projected record…

5A St Francis 3-6
3A Leo 4-5
1A Woodstock Marian 3-6

Do you really see Leo making any noise if they qualify?
I think they can finish 5-4 if they can beat Marian Catholic. I think they can definitely make noise, more so in 2A, but they have great speed and are athletic and if they can stay healthy I think they can do well. Unless they 4-5 match's them up with a power early on.

Leo has a JV team now which they haven't had in decades. Arrow is pointing up at Leo and it's great. Young men in that area are bypassing street life and buying into Leo's structure and discipline and the alumni donations are making it affordable for students who want to attend but families can't afford the tuition.

I'm happy to hear that Leo and their alumni are making a positive difference in the area. Good for them!

Had a great convo with a Leo dad at last years game. If I remember correctly he said they had 400 boys in the building and 70 percent played a varsity sport. Leo has weathered the storm when considering changing demographics and a sharp decline in Catholic education. They will greatly benefit from the new playoff structure as it was extremely difficult for them to get their 5 wins in CCL play. I’m glad they stuck around though and didn’t go to a lesser conference. Also home to one of the coolest gyms to see a HS hoops game.

I remember they were going to get Quigley South but Rita had the $$$ & Alum. Then Leo was going to take over Mt.Assisi in Lemont & before that move to Orland Park on Lagrange Road. Whatever happened with that?

That would have been a mistake and it was a blessing in disguise that it never happened. Moving to one of those locations would have put them in direct competition for students with several other south side CCL originals, potentially hurting everyone involved. They have reinvented themselves in their current element and have a good thing going. Credit to Dan McGrath for steering the ship through some tough times and working his *** off to keep his alma mater afloat. The torch has been passed to a new generation of young and enthusiastic alums. I hope things continue to improve over there. A competitive Leo HS is better for the CCL as a whole.

It would be Leo in name only if they move out to the suburbs. They get a lot of alumni and Big Shoulders help but my concern is how much work needs to be done on that old building? It's gotta be going on spit and glue in some fashions as I know upgrades would be astronomical.

I'll have to ask but do they still go to the Dan Ryan Woods to practice? I know they have a walk through 50 yard field to work out on next to the school but unless and upgrade was made you can't tackle on that

Woodstock Marian is 1A? Good gracious. Less than a decade ago (2017), they hosted Sterling in a 5A quarterfinal. I don't think they've made the playoffs since.

If you are 9-0 or 8-1 and lose in the first two rounds, you should have to play a CCL schedule the following year.
Damn, you get to recruit, get home games in the 2nd round when you go 5-4 (now 3-6) and you want punishment for the opposing team when they don't win. (Yes, I know your comment was in jest)

They are likely to end up in 3A when multiplied. IHSA has them listed with 299 students, when multiplied they will have 438.9.

Woodstock Marian Enrollment Trends

Ya it hasn't been good. There is promise...they made a change with the HC postion this past off season and brought back Dirk Stanger. He was the OC for many years when they were in their hey day. They put up 34 points on Richmond Burton week 1 which is very impressive from where things have been for several years.

In 1A - they'd be a team I certainly wouldn't want to play in round 1.

IHSA has them at 266 and there will be no multiplier. They haven't been to the playoffs in 10 years

That's a "can they stay open trend". Hope they weather the storm and figure it out from an overall enrollment standpoint.

Absolutely hated playing at that place.

There really is no competition for kids in their area. Closest catholic programs are rockford boylan and carmel. Both are about an hour away.

I know but if that enrollment keeps inching down...hard to keep doors open.

I did a little work and was able to determine whom the 384 qualifers are. Which class they will placed. Which seeding they will receive, including geographical separation for classes 1 thru 6. Hopefully i got it accurate. I did take into account all "playing up" petitions or success factors. I did not account for East St. Louis petitioning to 7A because the petition has not been approved as of this post. they are currently in the 6A bracket. I will add them by class. Enjoy

Oh I know...I'm just pointing out it makes no sense what is going on there. Should be a thriving school...not on the doorstep of closure.

St Eds is in a similar boat. Enrollment is down 43% over the past 10 years. Down to 203.

I listed 299 when 266 is the correct number. However, IHSA currently has them multiplied. My understanding is that ALL open enrollment schools are subject to the 1.65 multiplier unless they request a waiver. I don't believe Marian has a waiver. That is why the playoff projections have them in 3A as well. ;)
