Kinda sad to think that Rhule needs to/should make over a good part of his staff (both OCs, Foley, Maguire). Questionable choices in 20/20 hindsight.

Maquire (spelling?) was the most questionable one in my opinion. This is the Big Ten. Not a place for a young man to cut his teeth as a coach. He belonged over in northeast Lincoln at the other college football program there. Definitely should have started in NAIA or D3.

What was it Deangelo Evans said when comparing Osborne and Solich as play callers? I think he said with “Osborne it was like playing chess, but with Solich it was checkers”. Osborne was a unique genius. And almost 30 years later we are still feeling the effects of losing his genius.
Except for one area, there is virtually no comparison between TO and Rhule. Rhule talks a real good game in press conferences. TO's teams' did their talking on the field of play.
With Rhule's teams, you have literally no idea idea what team will show up. With TO, and few exceptions percentage wise in his career, you knew what you were gonna see from game to game.
Once TO's teams established an identity, that's the team they became.
Tom had some games that turned in to a mess for him but that was the exception. Let’s not forget though that Devaney had established a very consistent program though before Tom was hired. Rhule has started from a VERY different and very dark place in program history.
We also forget that Devaney talked a pretty good game too. Times are WAY different. Playing social media is very different from the smoke filled cocktail lounge interactions with media members and boosters that Devaney seemed to enjoy. Comparisons between Rhule and Tom at this stage I don’t think are very fair. The situations are wildly different.
Devaney was 101-20. He didn't just talk a pretty good game.
At this point we can't even compare Rhule to Devaney, Osborne, Solich or Pelini. They were all as different as could be, yet they all found a way to win games at a much higher rate.
Devaney and Osborne are from a different universe when compared to Rhule.
Solich and Pelini proved they could win on a consistent basis.
Rhule hasn't even proven he can win games that are winnable.
You lost me with the last sentence. He proved it at Baylor. That said, my belief is and the testimony was that Rhule had to settle for Satterfield as his original hire. I also believe that Rhule knew Satt’s shortcomings and tried to address that first by offering Peetz then eventually Dana before hiring Dana. Rhule clearly was trying to get a deal done with Dana last winter.
Rhule has admitted he’s not an offensive coach. He’s trying to address our problems and he has taken a bold move. Satterfield is a good man just not a great OC. It had to be very difficult to do what Rhule did to a long time friend. I commend Rhule for being willing to do what he had to do and doing it so quickly.
The bandage is ripped off with 3 games left. We’ll see how it works but I’m not going to lose my mind if things get worse before they get better. This move is more about next year than the 3 games left IMO.

Loose lips sink ships at this point. USC has no idea what to expect Saturday. He’ll Haarberg could be our starter for that matter. They can do their talking Saturday.
They usually go on a different day. Last week was a bye week - I would assume they will talk this week on their normal week.
I don't belive that with Rhule and Satt. IF I were the head coach and I said I was gonna run the ball, be physical, try to tailor an offense to deal with cold days in November in the BIG, was going to use a FB as a blocker. That's EXACTLY the offense my OC would run or he wouldn't be my OC starting Day 1.
You don't hire somebody to run an offense in your own vision, in what you know it might take to compete for championships in the BIG, then let him go off and do the opposite. I know they are friends. In competitive situations, any social affair is usually a business failure.
Rhule grabbed a play sheet for the second half of UCLA for a reason. I think he’s been frustrated by Satterfield going off script. It’s tough to know but I suspect their friendship got in the way of demanding Satt change his style.
This offseason I still believed the fantasy that Rhule wanted a physical football team and thought marrying that philosophy with Dana’s football acumen could make beautiful music.
Rhule has shown that once again those were just words and he will allow his OC to run whatever they want completely unchecked.

Also, Rhule said yesterday that this move was not about next year but to win now. So I agree with you that this is more about next year than the next 3 games.
I love the move. Why? It cements for us now that the idiot calling the plays (Satt) is done forever here calling plays.
That alone is worth another win or two just by itself. Just like cutting out many of the turnovers was worth a game or two.
Now, we may not feel the full effect for the last 3 games but next year for sure.

I like the move because Sat's not the answer. Do I think it's going to help? No because our head coach has proven he is clueless at running a winning program.
I guess turning around Baylor and Temple doesn’t register with you? Or you’re just another Iowa fan who doesn’t know sh-t about the huskers?
Baylor and Temple are not winning programs. However maybe you're right I should clarify. MR is not capable of running CHAMPIONSHIP level programs. His hiring of assistants many of whom are friends and the lack of improvement in 1.5 years is enough evidence to see that. If you can't see that then it's on you.
As a side note I've been posting on this board since 2005 so before you question my fandom do your homework. #GBR
He got them to a decent record in the final year at those places, and then promptly left. They were far from elite programs and not much of a lasting impact, not to mention the years that weren't so great. I think it's fair to critique on those points.
The combined record of the teams Rhule's 2019 Baylor team beat is 57-79.
Rhule needs to be much better than he's ever been to ever be in a position to compete for the B1G. He didn't have Ohio State, Penn State, Oregon, etc to get through. He had Oklahoma, who he never beat.
Temple… meh. As for Baylor.. Rhule didn’t hire either the OC or DC he had at Baylor so maybe he deserves some blame for how mediocre we are?
But I will say this, making the move with 3 games left knowing you had a Satt problem was gutsy and I like it

following that "big boy move", the Panthers went 0-5 and never scored more than 21 points with both Cam Newton and Sam Darnold at QB.
"gutsy" would've been not throwing an entire season in the trash and doing this last January when he had the chance.

I dont understand the second half of this post.
First it proves what kong says that this move is about rhule preserving rhule. Its like year two now never happened and he gets a fresh start next year. Hes proven only to be a loser here and its on him. The 8 million dollar man shouldnt need outside eyes to fix things or hire a coordinator 2/3rds through the year. Somwe better expect to see the full effect NOW, not next year.
Further, I dont expect dylan to be here next year. Its gotta be less than ten percent chance. Husker fans are again fooling themselves. Rhule is hoping to win these last three just to keep him. Because as of right now he gone.

Look we can hope that rhule can turn this around and that dana will help and maybe we will get to a winning record this year and next year.
But one thing is painfully obvious: Nebraska will never win a championship of any sort under rhule. We’ll never seriously compete.
So this all just feels like wasted time.

I have no idea how he looks this season compared to last. Too small of a sample size.
Given we actually have a QB coach and are a proud Developmental Program, I hope he’ll be better if forced into action.
