IMO, Would have to be assistant coach....I don't think guys go from assistant coach to DOBO. I've liked this guy since I posted his mic'ed up tape in another thread.

Here it is again. Seems like a guy that will relate well with the players.....good personality and seems upbeat.

Would be safe to assume he's probably the 2nd or 3rd assistant. Some guys do take the drop to DOBO at bigger schools because of the money involved but I believe he will be an assistant. I think he brings Dougher along with him as DOBO since he was in that role at SBU for Coach Pikiell

I would be shocked if Jersey guy Dougher is not the DOBO.

I assumed that Pikiell would bring at least one assistant with him, someone that knows how he likes to run practice and his program.

Dougher's latest Twitter follow is Christian Vital so that probably confirms that

Just some quick stalking nbd

Dougher as DOBO
Rickard as third assistant
Shoes as second assistant
Hope we sign a beastly No. 1

HOOPS...would you be happy with Marshall ? Obvious BB knowledge and could mentor forwards and big men.

Rickard's role at Stony Book was to mentor guards, AND, he was an assistant under Pikiell for 8 years....not DOBO, an actual assistant coach.

As a No. 3, yes.

So, you want your No. 1 assistant to be a strong X's and O's guy? Someone to help with in game adjustments and maybe suggest plays during crucial timeouts when you need a big score?

Who do you think is the best No. 1 assistant in the B1G?

Oh, I consider the most important assistant to be the recruiter. Doesn't need to be No. 1 but should be the highest paid.

All the development in the world means nothing if you're constantly playing against bigger, stronger, faster more athletic players, and in some cases future lottery picks.

Maybe in a one and done environment like the tournament but not over an 18-game conference schedule.

I also believe Dougher will be the DOBO. He is from Scotch Plains. I saw him play in high school several times. He was a very good shooter. If hired I'm certain his family will be happy to have him back in the area. Pikiell said we would have one of the best staffs around. We really need a home run as our top assistant.

I think the top level position on the staff will not get resolved until Jay Young's situation at either Central Connecticut or Stony Brook is determined. If he does not get either of those or another HC position I think he comes here as SP's top guy.

Things will move fast after SB hire their new coach. If it is not Jay Young, then Young will be on his staff at RU. Jay Young may also end up at Central Conn State as HC. This is the domino that will determine everything else.

Anyone know who SB is considering besides Young?

Couple names have surfaced. The most intriguing is Craig Robinson, Michelle Obama's brother. Tom Pecora, formerly of Fordham and Hofstra, and James Jones at Yale have also been mentioned.

Robinson would be an excellent get as a No. 1 assistant. He did better at Oregon State than people give him credit for.

If Young was hired by Rutgers, three former coaches from Stony Brook would be working for the mens basketball program. This could be following the approach of Waters when he was hired.

Difference is these are east coast guys, worked in the tri-state area.
