Mullen was fired after a loss to Missouri that guaranteed the Gators would have their worst SEC record since 1979 and because of a lackadaisical approach to recruiting. I hope he's not a serious candidate for Nebraska.
Mullen 103-61 overall 54-53 conference
Herman 54-22 overall 34-17 conference
Considering all of Mullen's record is in the SEC and the bulk of it was at SEC doormat Miss St. after Sylvester Croom ran it into the ground, I'm surprised his overall record is that good.Mullen 103-61 overall 54-53 conference
Herman 54-22 overall 34-17 conference

To be fair, Frost never went 1-7 in the Big Ten. 1-8? Sure. But never 1-7. That's a bridge too far.Rich Rod in his 3 seasons had the following big ten records
2 -6
1 -7
3 -5
no self respecting football program - especially a blue blood - gives someone with that record a 4th year
Because those records, the teams, and the conferences in which those records were made are comparable.Mullen 103-61 overall 54-53 conference
Herman 54-22 overall 34-17 conference
Mullen at Florida 34-15 and 21-14 one losing season (his last)Because those records, the teams, and the conferences in which those records were made are comparable.![]()
never claimed to always be right, hopefully Nebraska proves me wrong (like you last week, and unlike me last week)Now who’s playing at semantics
calls out one’s predictions with one breath and runs from his own in the next
what a cowardly *****
Is it true that he is not that keen on recruiting? If so, he would be a poor match for the NU job.At Miss State, takes over a 4 win team and has them at 9 win by year 2 in the brutally tough SEC West. Tenure includes numerous wins over top 15 opponents and even a #1 ranking for 4 weeks in 2014.
At Florida, took over a 4 win team, immediately gets them 10 wins, including a dominant bowl game win against the Michigan team that pummeled Nebraska in Frost's first year.
gets fired in the same season he lost to Alabama by 2 with a literal who at QB. administration had clearly turned on him halfway through the season which led to a downward spiral.
even his 8-4 season is deceptive when you look at the losses:
Texas A&M - 3 point loss against an A&M team that would only lose to eventual national champion Alabama
LSU - another 3 point loss featuring the bizarre "cleat toss" penalty
Alabama (SEC Championship Game) - 6 point loss to one of the best Alabama teams of all time. An impressive performance by both teams
Oklahoma - blowout loss, though worth noting that a ton of Florida's starters didn't even play in order to focus on draft preparation.
Personally, I think Florida still expects Urban Meyer levels of success, and they got a little too cocky.
pay me my rightful moneyline prize and you're on, *****never claimed to always be right, hopefully Nebraska proves me wrong (like you last week, and unlike me last week)
let’s do it straight up for $200 since you’re so confident Nebraska wins

couldn't ever be me. this guy is the widest gash going

> ridiculous termsillini and their zero quarterbacks get to sit on their AP poll ranking and media smoke for the next two weeks while the fightin' Mickeys sharpen their teeth
I fully expect NU to win this game
I'll happily take the NU moneyline> ridiculous terms

Friend of mine is a UF alum. Mullen did not like recruiting. Had some bad recruiting misses his last couple of years. UF had quality depth issues because of this. Also a very quirky personality - kind of an odd duck.He didn't as far as I'm concerned and wasn't given a fair shake. He was already on a very hot seat going into his last season, and that alone puts undue pressure on the team to perform. As was mentioned in the OP, even some of his losses were impressive against very good teams. The Florida fan base is nuts, I wouldn't put that on Mullen.
Maybe a good candidate for OC.Friend of mine is a UF alum. Mullen did not like recruiting. Had some bad recruiting misses his last couple of years. UF had quality depth issues because of this. Also a very quirky personality - kind of an odd duck.
That being said- definitely an offensive guru and good QB coach and mentor. And, as noted above, won at Miss State. Might be ready to jump back in.
The recruiting issue was real though. He didn’t really have a vision for how he wanted recruiting to be structured.
yeah, brainlet take to include his tenure at a historical SEC punching bag.Because those records, the teams, and the conferences in which those records were made are comparable.![]()
Let it go, @thall_ . Idiot like him/her will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience!> ridiculous terms

Mullen is an ideal replacement for Mark Whipple. He needs to rehab his image and we could certainly use his QB expertise.Maybe a good candidate for OC.
I could see him taking the OC position at Alabama if O'Brien leaves to take a head coaching job. But it may depend on how well he gets along with Saban.Mullen is an ideal replacement for Mark Whipple. He needs to rehab his image and we could certainly use his QB expertise.
Mullen coached 9 of those 13 years at Mississippi State and had to rebuild at MSU. Herman coached at one of the two best jobs in the Big XII during his entire time. I'm not even making a case for Mullen for NU but context is necessary.Mullen 103-61 overall 54-53 conference
Herman 54-22 overall 34-17 conference
I also compared Herman’s time at Texas to Mullen’s time at Florida.Mullen coached 9 of those 13 years at Mississippi State and had to rebuild at MSU. Herman coached at one of the two best jobs in the Big XII during his entire time. I'm not even making a case for Mullen for NU but context is necessary.
I could totally see that - depending on where his head is at. He might not want to deal with recruiting, NIL, etc in the ‘brave new world.Maybe a good candidate for OC.
Herman was able to get the team to play hard. But he absolutely tanked recruiting- he was not mature and it bled over to recruiting, personal relationships, etc. Had quirks like Mullen did. Definitely has some good qualities and maybe he has grown up a bit.I also compared Herman’s time at Texas to Mullen’s time at Florida.
Mullen at Florida 34-15 and 21-14 one losing season (his last)
Herman at Texas 32-18 and 22-13 no losing seasons
Mullen took over a team that was one year removed from a SEC title game, Herman took over for Charlie Strong and his 3 consecutive 7 loss seasons.
plenty of context
Shocked you were able to stop tonguing his butthole long enough to type thisLet it go, @thall_ . Idiot like him/her will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience!
This is false. Texas recruiting has been fine and I thought they looked physically more impressive than Alabama when they played them. Most of the studs Texas has now were recruited by Herman. Yeah his personality might rub some the wrong way and the kissing the players thing probably wouldn't go over here well, though I think he would drop that anyway.Herman was able to get the team to play hard. But he absolutely tanked recruiting- he was not mature and it bled over to recruiting, personal relationships, etc. Had quirks like Mullen did. Definitely has some good qualities and maybe he has grown up a bit.
I personally like both Herman and Mullen; but if interviewed they need to be thoroughly, thoroughly vetted.
If I had a gun to my head and had to choose between those two I'd take Herman for sure.
