If the NCAA wasn't so corrupt and such garbage this would be a pleasure to read. However, knowing how the NCAA does things, this is just another ton of facts for them to ignore. I hope I am wrong.

It is good to see some members of the media not letting this completely die.

So they...ahem..."misinformed" both the NCAA and the accreditation commission about the year the 12 hour independent study limit was put into place.

Woah boy this should be good.

I never could buy into the story that there was no limit on "independent studies" before 2006. I have several degrees and ALL of them had a limit on those classes.

Now, we find out that UNC continues to lie and coverup the cheating. They have no ethics.

I didn't realize before this article that the National Association of Corrupt Colleges was contending that only 10 athletes were involved. I'm sure the football schools in the SEC are re-arranging their blueprint for keeping players eligible as we speak (or read in this case).

The implications of this would be immense in a world in which the NCAA was run by honest people -- it would put the 2005 banner directly in the bulls-eye of charges of improper and impermissible benefits. THat's certainly why UNC-CHeats lied about the 2006 date all along.

I'm emailing this to the NCAA offices and urge everyone to, so it can't be totally ignored.

Well done video and well written article. I like the part about how it specifically mentioned "Rashad McCants, whose transcript shows he took nothing but fake classes in the semester during the championship run."

I still expect very little or nothing to happen.

Matt Jones had another Roast today on his Podcast I listened to twice.

I fully expect Matt to have the topic come up again when he is on Finebaum next week. Finebaum likes to start stuff and unless big ESPN stepped in and told him to hush up on the matter, I expect Matt to go off on the UNC scandal again on Finebaum, maybe loaded with more damning details, he will be prepared this time ... Lawyer style I hope.

But yea, this article and also Dan Kane's question and answer article were great. I will add that link as well

If the NCAA considers these classes an impermissible benefit...and McCants took nothing but 12 hours of impermissible benefits in order to stay eligible for that 2005 title. Then there can be no other conclusion then that he was an ineligible player who competed for North Carolina and that title should be taken away. (hell will freeze over before that happens BUT its only logical choice.)

The NCAA should have had the document showing the 12 hour limit was in place in '03, but only charged athletes with exceeding the limit after '06. Why would they cite '06 as the starting point unless they were trying to protect the '05 banner?

Women's basketball will take the brunt of the penalties. Football will get hit hard. Men's Basketball will take peripheral damage but not vacate wins or titles thus UNC wins the propaganda war as the entire focus of their efforts have been to limit the damage to Men's Basketball.

I am guaranteeing this outcome. Stay focused. This is where the battle is focused on. No vacated wins/titles is the entire crux of the battle. The key to who wins or loses this fight.

What is funny (in a tragic way) is that the UNC academic scandal was so outrageous the dozens of other violations have just been swept under the rug re: Fats, Grills for Heels Dental scandal, Tammy the Sausage Wallet, Wheels for Heels... a huge assortment of violations that would have drawn severe penalties for any other school have just disappeared without being addressed at all by the NCAA.
