UK has been very stingy over the years when it comes to honoring players this way.
I agree. In Pratt’s case this should have been done long ago on his playing days alone. I think five honor where it’s due whether a one year player or four year player.

UK has put themselves on such a pedestal with this that's it's become exceedingly rare to see a jersey hung in the rafters. There needs to be a balance between watering the process down as some programs do and it hardly happening like what occurs here.

I don’t like much that UNC does, but I like their automatic criteria to get your Jersey hung. If UK would just do something like the following for automatic Jersey hanging:

1. Consensus first team all-American
2. Consensus SEC POY

In the modern era of college basketball (1985), that would give us the following:

Kenny Walker
Jamal Mashburn
Tony Delk
Ron Mercer
Tayshaun Prince
John Wall
Anthony Davis
WCS
Tyler Ulis
Oscar Tshiebwe

If your Consensus NPOY, your Jersey should be retired. We have had 2 of them in Davis and Oscar.

Coaches would get in with a national championship. You would need to have a group to vote on non players and coaches like Cawood and Keightley. Others (like Pratt) can still get into the UK HOF, but would not have their Jersey hanging in Rupp.

At the Mike Pratt memorial service
“Why is Pratt’s jersey not hanging in Rupp “? Any thoughts?
Maybe Barnhart can answer
To some people, it seems almost everything that happens becomes a segue for questioning our AD. The math does not support this line of thought.

Mike Pratt was all SEC in 1969 and 1970. Great player and excellent analyst. His passing is a tragedy.

138 Kentucky basketball players have been all SEC. Kentucky basketball has had 57 All Americans. Only 42 Kentucky players, coaches, and contributors have banners hanging in RA. More are probably deserving, but no one has intended this as a slight.

Issel didn’t mean it that way

No you’re right Barnhart chairs the committee and can override any selection
Just because Barnhart can override any selection does not mean you are justified here. Everyone respected Pratt, and everyone is saddened by his passing. In essence, you are employing this as a rationale for presenting your disagreement with our AD. There is a large discrepancy between the number of Kentucky all SEC basketball players and the number of banners for former Kentucky players hanging in RA. It is not a reflection on Pratt, Barnhart, or anyone else. Again, check the math. I offered the actual numbers. All you have to do is read them.

Issel, who I regard as the greatest player EVER at UK would not have achieved what he did without Mike Pratt. And I'll bet you anything Dan would be the first to admit that.
IMO it is ridiculous that Pratt's jersey isn't already hanging from the rafters. He should have gotten to see that.

The man played for UK and gave FIFTY damn years of his life as an ambassador to the program. Jersey should be up tomorrow with no discussion.

Technically, we have only had one consensus NPOY which is Oscar. Davis missed on one of the POY awards in 2012. I think maybe Draymond Green won it.

Davis was consensus but not unanimous. which he should’ve been but as we’ve seen every year with AP voting, someone out there is always an idiot.

Oscar is the only unanimous NPOY UK has ever had in the modern era.

Davis and Oscar are the only ones period. Unless you are one of those people who picks random outlets to care about when it benefits the narrative.

As a player, I would say no. With
Issel, they never won anything, and individual awards are meh. For the totality that he’s done for the program, okay.

I looked and unc has two different categories, retired and honored. I assume retired means no one can wear that number?

The criteria for retired is
One of these criteria must be met to qualify for a retired jersey at UNC:
Associated Press Player of the Year; Naismith College Player of the Year; John R. Wooden Award; Sporting News Player of the Year; Oscar Robertson Trophy, formerly USBWA National Player of the Year; National Association of Basketball Coaches Player of the Year;

The criteria for honored is
One of these criteria must be met to qualify for an honored jersey at UNC:
Member of a gold medal-winning Olympic team; MVP of a National Championship-winning team; First- or second-team All-America; ACC Player of the Year; NCAA Tournament MOP;

What was Pratt, 2nd team all American and all sec

I know that consensus all-American is when you win a certain amount of them and don’t have to win all of them, so I assumed consensus NPOY was the same thing. I’ve seen articles say that Oscar was our first consensus and others say he was the first unanimous. I’ve always been under the understanding that AD was consensus NPOY, even though he didn’t win one of them.

And have 40 more plus years as an ambassador and a sports analysts.

Cawood was not a player and yet his name hangs.

Hanging Pratts jersey is unquestionable in my book. It should’ve already been done.

I'd think he'd get that honor this year.

Coaches Adolph Rupp, Joe B. Hall and Rick Pitino along with broadcaster Cawood Ledford and equipment manager Bill Keightley have also been honored
