No there’s no flavor of the week, terms made up by Calipari sycophants every time someone notices there are better coaches winning games he’s not winning.

How long are some of you going to play at these tired lines. Calipari beats no one that matters. If coaches that do are a “flavor of the month” then sign me up for the news letter.

1-11 Calipari’s last games vs. top 25. Losing record over the last 50. He sucks, to hell with these stupid sayings about coaches who are better. Just get him out.

Wouldn’t it be nice if you could call Calipari a “flavor of the week” instead of putting down other coaches winning games? Some of you have to be tired of propping up Calipari all day like a lifetime of Weekend at Bernies because you can’t point to results and you know it.

Stop whining about someone propping Calipari up. That’s the best you have when someone disagrees with you on the fit of a coach?? Not even close to what this is about. There are no good current options, including the two flavors of the week. Someone will pop up in the coming year or two but that person isn’t there yet.

Who's on your list then? Cal isn’t going to coach here forever.

It’s easy to **** on everyone else's list, where's yours?

I mentioned in another thread a week or two back I do not have a list. I don’t like anyone in the college game for the job at this point. They may be there but haven’t shown they have what we need on all levels. In 2009 Calipari was that guy. In 2023, there isn’t that guy. We have to wait for him to make a splash. There may be a NBA guy or two that would be a fit but that’s it.

UConn is a school to watch with all the ESPN money that is around the program
I get that, but what boggles me is that the Big East is a Fox Sports conference. I would think ESPN would like to trade the Big East for the Big 12 due to basketball.

Oates and Beard don't live and die by the 3.

If you are referring to Alabama in 2021 and 2022, you might have a point, but they won at Houston yesterday, while shooting only 23 threes. That’s pretty ideal in my opinion.

They shot 38 threes (42%) when they beat uNC, but they also shot 90 two's at 41%. That was a high possession game.

I've never seen, or heard anyone say Beard relies too much on the 3 ball.

They shot 22 threes yesterday, 19 total when they beat Creighton and 22 in the loss to Illinois. Yeah, they shot 33 threes against Gonzaga, but they also shot 66 two's and that was a blowout.
I am sure Nate will be glad you approve.

Why would you want Donovan? Why would Donovan or Stevens leave the NBA?

What has Lloyd done? Isn't that the guy at Arizona? You **** on Oats, but you're good with Lloyd?

I agree on Beard, but he has faults too, he just got bounced by Illinois, who just got hammered at home by Penn State. He has a FF, but he's fallen short of expectations every time since then.
Beard is also at his alma mater iirc

You’re arguing the Cal cult. They don’t care about what is true; they’ve got their talking points to try and minimize others and legitimize Calipari. It’s essentially a waste of time. The real fans inside of the fan base will have to drag them along they have absolutely no understanding of what makes UK, UK. I think a lot of them are slower in my opinion which is fine, not everyone is the same.
They’re not slower. They just can’t bare the thought that UK won’t be getting the #1 or #2 recruiting class that looks good on paper. When things go south in the season they always start talking about next year’s great class. Cal is fool’s gold at this point and they are all fools.

Only in recruiting. It would be hard to name a P5 coach that Cal is better than at Xs and Os but there must be a few
It would be hard to find a coach that Cal is not better than. But let's focus on the two that are the flavor of the month in this thread.

Neither are in the HoF, nor ever will be. Neither has taken a team to a FF. Odds are they never will. Neither has an NC. Neither has an NIT championship. Again, neither has even one FF, Cal has taken 3 schools to the FF and has 6 total.

If either of those guys were coaching UK the fanbase would be running them out of town.

And the difference is not recruiting. We only have 1 sure fire 1st round pick on our team. How many do they have? I doubt our starting point guard could even play for those teams. Our starting 4 for sure couldn't. He came to us from Rhode Island.

Yet Cal coached last year's team to a 2 seed. Blew out UNC, Kansas and Tenn along the way. What did the two coaches of the month do last year? Let's see who goes further this year. But there will be other flavors pop up before then.

Hmm, I must have dreamed that Beard coached Texas Tech in the final four.

Damn, Oates is in year 3 at Alabama, who is a football school. Cal didn’t reach a FF until year 8 at UMass and didn't win a title until year 26, but his replacement needs to have a title before coming to UK according to you.

Man, you're listing off a bunch of BS qualifications for the next UK coach. John Calipari wasn't in the HOF when he came to UK, in fact, he's in the HOF BECAUSE UK provided the stage.

John Calipari also didn’t have a national title to his name before he came to UK, but in your world, we're only allowed to look at coaches that HAVE won a title?

So, if Brad Stevens wanted to take the job, you'd say "Nahhh, you don't qualify, take a hike"???

Lastly, you said "neither coach is in the HOF and they never will be". Well, lets see, Calipari came to UK with not one, but two fully vacated seasons, did you honestly think he would ever get voted in? Don’t lie.

What you obviously don't realize is UK gives coaches a stage that only a handful of other schools can. Cal would never sniff the FF if it wasn't for UK, so keep that in mind before you say Oats and/or Beard will never make it to the HOF.

They're shooting 34% from 3 on the year. What game are you saying they were hot from 3 in?
And they're what, 9-1 with a win at Houston?

What you're choosing to ignore, is the simple fact that Alabama has been playing games with a high amount of possessions, so they're going to get more shots up. But taking 20-25 threes per game is not a crazy amount of threes. Thats pretty ideal actually.

Yeah, they have games where they shot more, but when you watch them play, they are not utilizing the same style they played in 21 and 22.

Unlike your boy Cal, who allows the opponents to dictate tempo, Alabama forces teams to play their style. Must be nice.

UNC and Houston aren't that good. Particularly UNC. Houston has solid D but horrible offense.

But they haven't. Several of their games this year have been low possession games with a high amount of 3's. And they are only shooting 34% on the season, which should tell you that isn't a good formula.

That's a crazy amount of 3's for a 50-70 possession game and a team that only shoots it at 34% from 3. That is exactly what Alabama has done most games this year.

Considering they have taken over 10 more 3's at this point in the seaon than last year, what has changed?

They must be pretty similar considering Bama averages 1.5 pts more on the season.

Houston's offense isn’t "horrible", that’s a stretch and not only that, the game was at Houston.

I haven't looked at every box score from every game Alabama played, I looked at the games they played against good competition and a few others. The games that they shot a crazy amount of threes, were high possession games and most were against mid major teams that don't guard the perimeter very well.

Against uNC, they shot 38 threes, but they also shot 90… ..NINETY two's. They shot 42% from 3 point range, so they should have been shooting them at will.

Against Houston: 23 threes
Against Mich state: 23 threes
Against UConn: 16 threes
Against uNC: see above

Those are the only games they played against power 5 competition and those are really low 3pt shot attempts for someone you say plays a style that relies too heavily on 3 pointers. With the exception of the uNC game, they shot no more than 23 per game and in the UConn game, they only shot 16 total.

Who cares what they did against mid major teams? Yeah, they shot 40 of them against South Dakota state, but they also shot 68 two pointers and got 45 rebounds.

I get it, you guys don't like Oates, but I see nothing wrong with these numbers at all. If they get up on a mid major, why not just bury them.

One thing I've noticed about mid major teams, they pack the paint, so there aren't any driving lanes. Happens to us every time. Alabama just chooses to shoot over them. That’s what I would do.

Houston currently ranks 166th in ppg. That's not good.

Vs Liberty, 22 of their 52 shots were from 3.
Vs Longwood, 28 of 69 were from 3.
vs S Bama, 35 of 68 were from 3.
Vs JSU, 46 of 66 shots were from 3
Vs Uconn, 16 of 50 were from 3
Vs UNC 38 of 90 were from 3
Vs SDST 40 of 68 were from 3
Vs Houston 23 of 54 were from 3
Vs MSU 23 of 63 were from 3

Here is the bama season breakdown if 3 and total attempts.

The only game they didn't jack a bunch of 3's was Uconn.

Against UNC they went to quadruple OT. So of course it was a high possession game. They also didn't shoot 90 2's. They shot 90 overall shots. 38 were from 3. That means 52 were from 2. 🤣

They also didn't shoot 68 2's against SDST. That was 68 overall shots. So almost 60% of their shots came from 3 in that game.

Almost half of their shots against Houston were from 3. 23 of 54.

Why do you just make **** up?

And if you're going to debate stats, can you please learn how to read and understand them first?

Hey dopey, Chris Beard was never my first choice, if you weren't so busy trolling, you would know that.

If you took the time to actually read the post you replied to, you would see that I simply stated a fact about Chris Beard, he absolutely DID coach in the final 4 and then a title game just a few years ago.

You listed mostly mid majors, why? Who cares.

Look what they did against power 5 competition. 23 threes is not a lot and neither us 38 when 90 shots were taken.

They're 9-1 against better competition than we have played. You wouod gave a point if they were 1-9.

I listed their entire schedule. 🤣 Again, why lie?

Against P5, they shot 38 of 90 against UNC. That's 42% of their shots from 3. They could have won in regulation or one of the first 3 TO's had they attacked the paint.

Against MSU, 37% of their shot attempts were from 3.

Neither of those are good. Particularly for a team that only shoots 42% on the season.

They've played 1 good team in Uconn. UNC is awful. Houston has strong defense but horrible offense.

Nate Oats has never been past a SW16, and he's only been that far once. Dude is mediocre as fu*k.

Also, are you ever going to address how Bama doesn't rely on the 3 as much as years past even though they have taken over 10 more at this point in the season? 😉

How freaking old are you? 23 three pointers in a 40 minute game, is about average for what we see in the college game right now.

Go back to 1965 where the 2 handed set shot was a thing.
It seems like you want a coach that has a 5 pass before shooting rule. LMAO.

Who's on your list? You have something to say about everyone elses, who's on your list?

Middle aged.

Yes, for a team average of 34% (that is Wheeler's season avg for God's sake) from 3, in a game with 50 - 70 possessions, that's too many.

It's a low percentage shot, with a low percentage chance of getting fouled. A team shooting that low of a % from 3, shouldn't be taking that many. Particularly against the lower level teams where they should have an advantage in the paint.

We shoot a good bit higher % from 3 and I don't want UK taking that many.

How does wanting teams to take smarter shots set me back to the 60's?

Why haven't you addressed the fact you lied about Bama being less reliant on 3's this year when they have in fact shot more of them? Why didn't you admit you were wrong about the 2pt attempts?

I don't do the hiring, so no point in having list. However, if it were to happen now, Holtmann and Pope are the 2 people who would be offered first, in that order. I don't like either, but Mitch loves both.

Where does this requirement that you must have a pointless list to highlight the flaws in the names others have listed come from?

If it were me, I would contact Wright, Donovan, Stevens, Few, Vogel. Make them all say no. I do think they are all likely going to turn us down, but you have to shoot for the best.

From there, you look at who is left in the college ranks with proven experience in the postseason, is successful in recruiting, and has the personality to mesh with the fanbase and handle the pressure. From that group, you have Bennett and Drew. Bennett's style isn't going to do him many favors, and Drew has been at Baylor for 20 years with 1 F4. He only has 3 E8's. 2 of those came over a decade ago. He has also never won the Big 12 tournament and has only won the regular season Big 12 twice. He also doesn't have the personality type that will mesh with the fans.

From there you are into unknown territory. Oats hasn't been past the Sw 16. And he's only been to one of those. Musselman has the back-to-back E8's, but again, he is light on experience. However, he would probably be the best of the realistic options. Pearl has the persona, but lacks overall results. Lloyd is only in his 2nd season, so he needs a lot more time to prove himself. Holtmann hasn't won **** either, but has shown results in the regular season and is usually seeded high. He is from Nicholasville and wants the job, and the Holtmanns and Barnharts are close family friends. Pope is obviously considered because of ties to the program and fans love him. He also has a good relationship with Barnhart.

Holtmann hasn't won **** either, but has shown results in the regular season and is usually seeded high. He is from Nicholasville and wants the job, and the Holtmanns and Barnharts are close family friends. Pope is obviously considered because of ties to the program and fans love him.
Okay, so you just provided a list of a bunch of dudes that you know 100% will not take the job, but you want UK to beg them and look like fools. Got it.

Then, you **** on every other candidate that would be at least worthy of the position.

News flash, any coach they bring in here, is not going to have a perfect resume. You're also ignoring the fact that Cal came here with 2 vacated seasons, no final 4's and a reputation as a slimy jerk.

Now, where is your list of coaches that would actually take the job?

I'm surprised you didn't list Phil Jackson, Steve Kerr and Jesus Christ, I mean, why not, you have to make them tell you 'no' right Brad?

Sheesh.

Why would we beg them? You do understand these guys have agents that UK reaches out to and discusses interests, right? It's not even public. It becomes public when actual interest is shown and meetings and negotiations occur. Since I wouldn't expect them to have that level of interest, it wouldn't likely be known.

Pointing out obvious flaws and concerns is shitting on them?

Not at all. Cal has never had anything vacated and has actually been exonerated by the NCAA. Also, the Memphis ordeal occurred after his hiring.

I gave it to you. Oats, Musselman, Hotlmann, Pope, Bennett and Drew are all likely people who would accept it. Not sure how that was so hard for you to understand?!?

Why would I list them? Do you always go to hyperboles?

You get way too angry over this stuff, bud.

Wait, wait, I want YOUR list, not who you think UK will have on their list, no, give us YOUR list.

And FYI, Calipari had zero final 4's on his resume when he took the UK job, so yes, they were removed from his own.personal.records.

Also, the Memphis thing most certainly DID happen when he was at Memphis. Their 2008 season/Final4/Runner-up were all stripped and he was the coach of that team. Where do you get your information from?

That's what I gave you. Those are the names that I would go through.

No, he had 2. Did he not coach in the 1996 F4 and the 2008 F4?

OMG, are you F'ing stupid? I was referring to the vacating of the wins and title at Memphis. That occurred after he got hired at UK.

You literally have no idea what you're talking about do you? This has all spawned from me calling out your ignorance on Bama and their 3pt attempts not dropping from last season. Now you're just arguing to try to win a point or something. Dude, seek help!
