Hopefully we don't lose him calling games. Not many good ones left. Here is what he said.

"Scottsburg, (are) you complete idiots? Like are you just that fricking stupid, Scottsburg, Indiana? Can we please not fire a coach who has been great for the community," Dakich said on the air. "I mean what is wrong with you people in Scottsburg, Indiana? I mean are you that hillbilly?"

"Let me guess, some jack--- of a board member has a kid on the team at Scottsburg that didn't get to play enough," he said. "Shut the living hell up Scottsburg, Indiana. Shut the whole damn town down. Hey jack---, I may just drive down there and beat the hell out of every school board member."

"Your boy's a methhead. He's a pain in the (expletive deleted)."

"Take a dump in Scottsburg should be our new thing. My god, how stupid. Somebody send me a picture of this school board, these idiots in Scottsburg," he said. "Take a dump in Scottsburg should be the new motto."

"That's why I'm on this earth," Dakich said. "I'm on this earth because we must call dumb(expletive deleted) out."

If that gets someone fired, come to some HS games, or Youth Basketball games. Was telling a good friend here that a few weeks ago we were at a middle school game that has schools that feed into our HS--both were undefeated, game was great, well coached, well played, refs did a great job, and young ladies who ran the clock/scoreboard were tremendous. The parents screamed out profanities at the young ladies, the coaches, the officials, the refs, each other, behaved like complete dip****s and 3 of them actually had to be escorted out of the school for accusing and attacking the young girls of "alleged" cheating for the home school-they didn't--everything was handled well and as neutral parties, the coaches at game told the parents so.

Have had a relative of player tap me on shoulder during game to ask why I took a kid out (he had 4 fouls with 13 min to go in Half-we play 18 min Halves in MN) and young man had to tell him to go sit down and was ashamed, have seen parents confront and swing on officials at AAU games, and it's not getting better, it's bad enough the State HS League in MN advertises for more help officiating because nobody wants to put up with the abuse compared the little $ you get to help out.

The parents acted likes idiots in Jupiter Florida at the little league games a few years ago. It got so bad the officials put a rule in place stating the parents couldn't attend any games. They would drop their kids off before the games and then have to leave. That's how bad some parents are and it's sad.

Have heard DD on his radio show go into (alcohol-fueled IMO) rants. This one may have been over the line, however.

I think he should yell about it. Call an entire town of people idiots and hillbillies over something a very small amount of people did, is idiotic.

I like him calling games but that tirade will get you fired from any company that relies on public perception.

Same in Kentucky. They are practically begging folks to be high school referees.....

I’m guessing those are, specifically, the offending quotes. Can’t threaten to beat people up, even if he’s obviously not serious - he didn’t threaten one board member (believable) but all of them (not). Can’t call someone a “methhead”, even if it’s unclear who you’re talking about. Can’t advocate crapping on an entire town. Not prudent.

Dakitch is a great analyst but a horrific host of a radio show. I realize he was on Indy radio, but who the Hell cares about what’s going on in Scottsburg, Indiana? That’s what gets you fired up?

He tries WAY too hard to deliver hot takes.

I have coached some high school and the last time I coached was with my kid in grade school. He was probably the third best player on the team and we ran everything like he was the third best player . Might of averaged 6 points a game on maybe five or six shots.

Anyway, we were coaching a team that might of won 5 games total in three years and was sitting something like 18-6 on the year. I had a guy that I played with in high school come out of the stands on me because I was playing his kid (who started and played most of every game) off of the ball. The kid has absolutely no chance to play college ( keep in mind we are four years later now as is the case with most kids). The school got rid of me and my staff because we wasn't playing the right people and ended up going back to a two or three win team to finish their pre-high school stuff. It's tough to fool with parents in today's world.

He must be telling the truth........he gets fired because someone's son didn't get enough playing time.....someone's little future All-American that couldn't be on a team if Mom/Dad wasn't on the school board............The ideal with youth sports is so kids can have a chance at learning the game in a organized setting.......now it has became a place where parents have crazy ideas about their child's abilities............everyone's kid is a MJ or Tom Brady.....

I got fired from a 11u girls fast pitch team ( who no kid on the team) in the middle of a season .. parents meet after a cookout and decided I had to go. Several kids on that team gave up softball by the time they hit High School. Only reason I agreed to coach them was so many had bright futures , but he parents ruined it. That was 7 years ago.

But for Dakich--- he sounds EXACTLY like what he is condemning.

He used to go after UK but did a 180 it seemed. My theory is that he feel the wrath of BBN and circled the wagons.

What changed him was the time he spent with Cal on the Bahamas trip. He’s mentioned it many times since that he got to know Cal then and has tremendous respect for him.

Once had a great coach tell me over dinner one night at the end of a 3 day clinic something that stuck with me:
This coach told me she admired my work ethic and drive and loved how I ask so many questions. She said it was impossible to remember everything you learn at these clinics but try and remember this:
I do not know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everyone.

Not sure where she got that quote from, but that helped me in dealing with parents.
I would tell parents to talk to me, but keep the yelling out of it. I would then tell them about this young player I had who had talent but was lazy. Her efforts were lazy as was her attitude. This player thought because of who she was she could do what she wanted. Her mom would be mad as hell; say some things to me that would make me want to want to scream. I told these parents that no matter how mad they are, there is no way they were going to say anything to me that could make me get mad; that this lady had already said everything possible to me about her daughters playing time and that after 35 years I am still married to this lady.

He’s not allowed to be brutally honest (even if off base) while other social* commentators are.

Weird how that works.
