I think it was characterized as maintenance issues, but there seems to be some speculation they aren't reopening. Looks like Bulldog Lanes did too.

That sucks for Ole Venice. They had great pizza.

As for Bulldog lanes. That place was terrible.

Never ate there, but saw where CJ's pizza is closing next week. Restaurant business is a tough gig.

Very sadly, the owner of Bulldog Lanes and Hunt Club (not sure that's the correct name) passed away last month.

He was early 50's and is survived by a wife and college age daugter. Please keep them in you thoughts.

no way, shape, or form anything like

the old venice in starkville. My only trip to the one in h'burg left me feeling like I had paid extra for someone to cook me up a totino's pizza from walmart.

nevermind. I'm thinking of bianchi's. No old Venice in h'burg.

We went to Old Venice the last time we were in Starkville. I thought it was very good and I liked the atmosphere (old building, etc.), and the service was great. The place was packed too. Of course, that was a FB weekend.

I ate at the one in Tupelo while passing through there last week. I think the original Ole Venice in Oxford is still open too. I like their pastas.

No OVPC in Hattiesburg. You're thinking old Athens. It's Greek and good. Same guy that owns half the mugshots

We live less than 5 minutes from the one in Tupelo. Loved it when they first opened, but they intentionally changed up their recipes a few years ago and it hasn't been the same since. About 3 of our last 4 or 5 visits have been terrible and we won't go back for dinner. Got a pizza to go last year - I didn't check it until I got home. The cheese was literally burnt to a crisp. How do you put something like that in a box and give it to a customer?

They do have a good lunch buffet if you're on that side of Tupelo looking for something.

They had one in Hernando for a little while. The service was horrible and it closed about a year later. It's now a Windy City Grille like the one in Como.

Bill Norris passed? What from? Spent many a day taking advantage of the lunch-n-bowl special there.

They might have had the worst location in Starkvilke the way they were hidden. I always wondered how much more business they'd do if they faced 12 and weren't tucked in the corner of a crappy strip mall.

ETA- doesn't change the fact that the best pizza (and Italian food in general) is served at city bagel wed-fri night.

There is a pizza place downtown h'burg called bianchi's. Old Athens is the Greek/gyro place across hwy 49 from usm. They changed the name of it to Glory Bound Gyro Co. about a year and a half ago. And yes, the guy that opened it is one of the original mugshots guys. He also has one in Tuscaloosa. Good stuff.

CJ's is closing because the building is being torn down for a new Sonic. Owner said business was good, but he wanted to move back to NC. Hate it 'cause nobody makes a pie that rivals the Rock & Roll.
