My dearest Michael,
It has come to my attention through your eloquent letters that you are indeed deeply troubled in Mississippi during these trying times. To wit, we all are dealing with this great change to the world in our own ways.
Here in Georgia, situations appear bleak as well. However, we must find ways to lift our spirits. I feel compelled to share with you, my dear brother, how we have done this.
The boys & I have been drinking more. We even found some time for a baseball game during a seige. Though only eight of us played, I am proud to say we beat the team of four officers whom clearly thought themselves of a higher class of sportsman than we regulars! Lieutenant MCreedy remains a sore sport over the affair.
None of us know the outcome of this world changing event, but we all must keep our joy.
Give my love to Ma and Lil' Susie. They need you more than ever since Pa's passing at Shiloh.
Sincerely yours,
Cochise
