Dude he roasts IU at every opportunity. His ****** still bleeds over not getting the job.

yeah he gets on IU a bunch. I like that he calls out legitimate issues with the program but yeah you can tell he’s butt hurt about not getting the job.

Winning 2 games as a 1 or 2 seed is failing BIG TIME. Especially with the talent Gonzaga has had. They should sleep walk past sweet 16.

Cal's spiel is old. Same crap every year. Needs to get back to playing Maui, Alaska, other early season tournaments. And stop with the buttercups at home. Nine years....9 years.

Dakich is an apocalyptically failed coach. He is the queen of narcissism among basketball broadcasters. Cal has always been a self promoter; it’s part of his schtick. For Dakbitch to whine about it now reflects, in part, the jealousy that unquestionably is eating up his worthless soul.

Dakitch is still the best at calling a game. At least he knows what he’s talking about as opposed to many of them.

That’s the problem, he roasts everybody. Eventually he will be on an island all by himself. There was no reason to say the things he said about Cal, because it doesn’t seem accurate, but to double down and do it on air, during a game, well that's freaking bold.
Cal has always been about the players, so this comment by Dan Jock-itch is just wrong on so many levels.

I'll bet DD understands Kentucky basketball more that Mat Joens

He doesn't like Archie. Feels they

He actually can't stand Knight. He actually praises Cal. IU? but hates the Archie hire.
Honestly, no, he doesn't know more about UK anything than MJ does. If you don’t like Jones, fine, but Dakich, while knowledgeable about college basketball, is not more knowledgeable about UK than MJ.

Also, I don’t care if DD talks highly of Cal in his radio show or not, that doesn’t excuse what he did here, live on the air. nobody needs friends like that.

Lot of truth here.....One thing about him---he will tell it how it is. Hes often on point. But sometimes----Not so much.
That’s cool and very true, but where DD goes overboard is when he drops unnecessary bombs, like this, for no reason at all.
It’s cool when it's a case where someone did something that should get them called out, but too many times DD throws a hamaker for things a light jab would work better for.

some people need to let their skin thicken a bit. Too sensitive to everything. Who cares what he said?
It wouldn't be a big deal if it was true, but it's not and it was an uncalled for shot at Cal.
It’s classless and that is all we're saying.

Smack talk Cal's lack of offense or players he recruits with one foot out the door. Anything other then that is questionable.

Yeah, but that really has nothing to do with the topic at hand.

I don't think Cal will respond to this. He might joke about it or make sarcastic comments hinting how it's "all about THEM", but he won't officially respond to this.

Also, I don't disagree. Your Kentucky. This is a crazy season. Play basketball. All that matters is March Madness. Literally, nothing else.

I’d rather be playing a competitive top 25 type team rather than Morehead at Rupp. I realize this year is different because of Covid and also because of a completely different team we have. Don’t want to throw them to the wolves away from home mentality, but this is UK. Fans want excitement and I get more excited about possibility of playing 2 or 3 exciting games even though a good chance of a loss exists than a sleeper at home. That being said, Richmond is a good test. I guess at least we got to play a game, more than I can say for some teams (cough, ...Duke..., cough). People shouldn’t worry about what some talking head says. They go back and forth like a tennis ball.

the most interesting part of this is that it made me read Cal's full quote, and it sure seems like he's saying Keion won't be playing for a while

Again, the topic if this thread isn’t about the schedule, it's about Dan's comments about Cal making everything about himself and dragging Urban Meyer into it. That's the topic, not the schedule.

As far as the schedule goes, you can't play top 25 teams every game. Every single team in the country plays some cupcakes. It sounds like the NBA is your bag.

It was ignorant of him to say what he did...And I hope Cal calls his *** out for it.

Doesn't bother me. It's one perspective. Some of you sound like Cancel Culture. Let the man have his opinion. Cal will laugh it off and collect his $10 million/year.

I don’t think anyone (at least here) has tried to limit his ability to say what he thinks. They’re just calling him dumb for it. He can have his opinion, and everyone else can have theirs.

Exactly. He can say what he wants but people have a right to call him out and disagree.I thought it was out of line and quite personal. It had nothing to do with basketball to talk about Cal's character like that.

It’s possible Cal takes the high road, but the Italian side of him will probably take over here.

I remember Jim Rome interviewed Cal on the air a couple years ago. The interview went well, but when Cal hung up, Rome made a comment about Cal's lack of coaching ability. Cal immediately called back in and went after him.

Cal may wait a little, but he will retaliate, he may do it jokingly in an interview that has nothing to do with DD, but I bet he does something. Hell, he will have to, someone will certainly ask him about his thoughts on Dan's comments.

Obviously I care and everyone else posting in this thread, including you. You obviously care enough to post multiple times in this thread about it.

But it’s cool if you don’t care about it, to me, it’s a classless act by a guy that is supposed to be a journalist and journalists are supposed to have a code, which is "report the news, don't be the news".

You do know that Gonzaga has only been a 1 seed 3 times in their history? And went to the title game and Elite 8 in 2 of those years, right?
I think this perception is because of the first of these 1 seeds in 2003 when they went 27-2. They played 3 ranked teams all year lost 2 of them and beat one in OT which is hardly the resume of a 1 seed. The zags then proceeded to get beat 91-72 in the round of 32 by Nevada. Its tough to change a first impression. I will acknowledge that the last 7-8 years they have played to seed much more than in the previous 7-8 though

Truth be told, he's right, we are UK, why recruit the best players and play cupcakes, should take on all comers, not going to win them all, but its good basketball. The players want that challenge.

First of all, Dakich is a hypocrite. Everything he says outside of color commentary in the game he's calling is just for personal attention. He says something every year about this time to get the attention of UK fans. So, I have little respect for any off the cuff comments he makes.

Secondly, he reminds me in some ways of Bill Walton when he starts a sentence. Sometimes I don't think he even knows where he's going with. He just kind of rambles and the thought ends where it ends. That is, he's an idiot.

Last of all, if you look at what Calipari actually said, he's attempting to take the heat off his players with these comments. He's actually doing the opposite of what Dakich is saying. He's being unselfish here. After that bad practice, I think he was worried we might lose a couple early games and the players would take some heat. So, he's making himself the scapegoat for scheduling too hard.

Final word: who really cares what Dakich says, especially when he's obviously talking out of his rear?

Not a fan of Dakich. Always needs to make “the hot take” and 98% of the time he sounds like a dumbass because of it. Nobody likes Dakich that I know.

NOBODY (including Dan + ME + YOU) understands the pressure Cal is under:
...Recruiting #1 classes every season
...Coaching pampered mega talented One-and-Done Freshmen egos
...Dealing with irrational US (Blue Nation)
...Facing the pressure to win Titles (2nd place is 1st Loser)

Yes, it is partially self imposed. And Yes, Cal whines about it some.

But Urban Meyer (who kept kids 4 years) has zero clue what it's like playing 50% Freshmen and still finding a way to win.

You wonder sometimes with guys like this who just seem to let loose hurtful words every now and then if there isn't an alcohol issue behind it. I mean, in real life there usually is.
