No he didn’t he said Duke looked like a better team without Bagley on the floor. The fact he said it during a game is the only reason it’s still being talked about.
If it was said on sports center, college game day live or any other talk show half the fan base wouldn’t know anything was said. So when Seth Greenburg said at the half that Duke has been playing better with out Bagley on the floor and maybe it might benefit Duke playing one big because hey Carter is just as good might be something coach K needs to think about going forward bringing one of them off the bench.
The fan base is just butt hurt because he called Bagley selfish. I didn’t see half of them as mad when the twenty plus sports commentators were saying worse about Grayson. I’m done with this but I hope the kid don’t end up in Philly, Detroit, or any of the lower teams in the league because he’ll get called way worse.
Grayson got much worse. Many of those attacks were personal attacks. Hated it at the time and defended him from that every time. On court stuff is in him though. Dakich was borderline attacking Bagleys character as well, but I don’t think he meant it as personal. So I’m not terribly offended by his comments. He has a difficult time of taking easy things to say like “I feel that the ball sticks too much with Bagley, He will have to learn to trust his teammates a bit more and improve on feeling the double teams coming.” Instead, he said things like “Bagley is about Bagley.” If he went the first route....non issue. However he didn’t.

One thing I hope it did though, become a rallying point for Marvin. I like when players of his caliber play angry.

It clearly was a setup. Duke paid all of the analysts to say that. Y'all don't give Koach the credit he deserves. He set this all up

Dakich is born and raised from the great state of Indiana and also coached there, the way he views basketball is exactly how someone from Indiana views basketball: they don't do any flashiness, and they want basketball to be played like it's the 1960's. (Sorry if anyone is from Indiana)

Bagley wouldn't have made a great character in the movie "Hoosiers."

I don't have a problem with Dakich making that comment - that's his job - to call it as he sees it. I don't like him and think he was too critical, but that's what it is.

At the same time, that criticism, fair or not fair (I think the 'selfishness' comment is unfair), could turn out to be a good thing if it motivates Bagley to prove him wrong. This is probably what he needs to hear. Listen to the criticisms and develop a thick skin. Great players like Kobe - took a lot of criticism and always used it to fuel them to become better. If Bagley can do that, this could be great for Duke the rest of the way and for his career in the NBA.

Dakich is pretty outspoken in his comments, and definitely has a different style putting it mildly. I dont have a problem with him because hes consistently that way, and doesnt just give you the party line so to speak.

In retrospect I think maybe did Duke and Bagley a huge favor. "Bags" was as fired up as I've seen against UNC. OFC

I liked this post for the second part. This might have been something that lights a fire not only under Bagley, but with the 'team', as well. Maybe a rallying cry, of sorts.

I'll always understand why people can get 'irritated' with Bilas. He tends to sometimes come across as pompous. I think Dakich is much, much worse. I'd say the same thing if he had made the comments about a UNC or UK player. I don't think it's ever the job of an analyst in college to tear down a player. No one can ever convince me that wasn't exactly what Dakich was doing.

Unfortunately that is ESPN as a whole. They are no longer about reporting news and offering genuine opinions. They are about twisting and manufacturing stories and giving against the grain opinions to generate clicks and views. ESPN is a cesspool.

People can try to make fair for Dakich by saying he didn't mean it personally, or its his job, or entitled to his opinion, or anything else, but I will not see it as anything but him being an *** for calling out Bagley on national TV and saying he is all about Bagley, and laughing about it. If it were blatantly true, I may not think as bad about it, but I think he cares about this team and is not just all about Bagley

And it continues... Dakich sarcastically calls Bagley the most "selfless" player in the ACC during the ncsu vs bc game. He just can't let go lmao...
