No we don't. But we live in a world where you are accountable. Every year I was in the work force I had an annual review and there were certain minimum goals I was expected to meet.
Having a serviceable 5 is not a TOP performance requirement or perfection as you term it, but more like a minimum requirement expected to be met EVERY year.

Yeah, it's not PC to Cal (as though he would be bothered by a fan's comment.)

guess cal failed....so we need to hold him accountable. what should we do? he needs to be held accountable....no excuses right....so lets go do something about it. unless you have some excuses why we cant.

If you don't think a big averaging 12&8 against grown men in the NBDL in only 27mpg would have made a huge difference in a team that struggled with protecting the paint then....wow.

i wish fans would just come out and tell the truth. you want guys like dakari back because it gives uk a better chance to win.
Right after you say PP, WCS, TJ, etc were idiots for coming back and idiots for being glad they did (or liars).

Bet KU is ticked they didn't run Ellis and Seldon off since their draft position was limited. Or Meeks, Paige, Johnson at UNC, or Valentine at MSU, or Heild.....on and on and on. Good grief.

what a year in college basketball....unc, ku, msu, and oklahoma all wont a national title. 3 of those 4, maybe even all 4 will end up having the same outcome as uk....with all that experience! unless you dial it back to final fours...in which case....cal/uk trumps that success over the last 5 years by miles.

PP played for a crazy man for 2 years
WCS had a blown out foot
TJ should have gone pro really...lucked out there. but the kid was drafted 18th....come on.

I think you could take several people off this team and they'd be able to put up decent d-league stats. They don't play D and they play at a fast pace. That doesn't really prove he's any kind of a defensive presence either.

you are ratholing. Their teams are more successful this year and I would be shocked if to a player they all said they were glad they came back.

Does the 2012 banner make you sick for the way we used and abused Terence Jones?

You need to study the rosters, lots of talent there. But, so if they play no defense that probably hinders development huh?

more successful....please. some uk fans have a bad habit of looking at other programs with lower expectations then they do our own. msu lost 3 fewer games then us. lost in the first round. but had a better year? please stop.

i love that we won a title, TJ was my favorite player on that team. when he came back, i knew we were going to win it all. kid was a monster. but coming back he didnt really improve and it didnt help his draft stock. it help uk win more games. again...GREAT for us. but lets not pretend it was great for him. he still spent most of his rookie year in the D league so its not like he was "more NBA ready".

i wanted dakari to come back. he is exactly what we needed. but it would have not mattered much in terms of his position. too many folks confused team success with draft position

What? You are chastising others for the exact same thing. Make up your mind.

And I will argue TJ was much better off coming back and maturing. You guys totally ignore the maturation angle. You think siting around a Courtyard in Idaho playing video games is some great training ground. He became a much better defender as well which has earned him playing time. Go look at his draft of who went 12-24ish and tell me it didn't benefit him.

Classic revisionist history. Everyone has seem to have forgotten how underwhelming Johnson looked his last year here. Do you not remember the countless threads about how he regressed or where was the Dakari Johnson from the Louisville game? How he couldn't jump. But suddenly he was going to make these great strides.

Every player is different. But there aren't a lot of examples from Cal's teams that say staying behind is a good idea. Cal doesn't expect these kids to stay so he's constantly reloading. That means you are under competition if you return. Of course I get that you are under competition at the NBA level but when you're a college kid, you see those dollar signs and your first thought is if I'm going to compete, might as well get paid and not have to go to class instead of compete in college and possibly lose more money.

Look at the Harrison's. Both came back to improve their draft stock but it didn't happen. Poythress was a borderline first rounder after his freshman year. 3 years later, he's possibly un-draftable. That's what kids like Briscoe are looking it.

I think in Jones' case coming back did help him, not in draft stock, but in maturity and learning how to play hard 40 min a game. That was a real problem for him his freshman year. For Dakari, he didn't want to compete against Skal and split minutes, so he took a chance and went pro. I think for him, that was the right decision because his skill set wasn't going to improve from year to year at UK. After 7 years of this style, I expect to lose the starting lineup every year.

try harder. draft express is the best in the business.

It's a place to play ball and get paid as you try to improve yourself individually. There are a lot of people who put up big stats who never sniff a roster. He's allowed to do the few things he does well and they don't take advantage of his weaknesses because no one actually cares about the result of the game. He gets to focus completely on basketball, which will accelerate what improvement he has left to make, but he has the same issues that would limit his effectiveness in an actual competitive setting.

What point are you flailing at? That is what I was saying.. I said they did not really improve their position by coming back and were happy they did. What else do you want?

No what tells it all is you like to be a contrarian, eg Ulis. I keep pointing to players saying they were glad they came back even without clearly improving their position and you have....nothing. You think every talented frosh should leave either for the pros or because they can't get better.

what players? position in the draft? again...you pick one or two guys from a sample of hundreds....please stop.

i want these guys to come back too. i'll do anything to have skal back. its means we win a title. but its not what they want....sorry. denzel valentine....ranked 98th in espn's top 100. also a local kid. averaged 5 points his freshman year. no one knew of him. sophmore year....a whopping 8 points. good for him...he made something of his career because there was nothing ever there to being with.

you want guys like that....have the state of kentucky stop sucking.

Coming from a guy that said Bo Outlaw was as good as Bill Russell and Tyler Ulis was limited to a role player. I understand a hell of a lot more than you.
Not sure how you are a UK fan, you just make it sound so damn miserable here and the greatest thing is leaving. Just a dark dude.

well considering i have no idea who bo outlaw is...yeah you know more than me.

i love uk. miss the campus greatly. i'm just not living in world where uk basketball is the end all be all. and considering how many kids leave uk early....i'd say they feel the same way about me. love the place...killer time...but bigger and better out there.

and if tyler did return...he would be taking a back seat to fox and monk. his role would be more like his role on the 2015 team.

So no list of the elite guards that got the best of him "time and time again"? And the naismith finalist, Tyler Ulis, would sit behind DeAaron Fox? Bigger question is why would I spend time debating such idiocy?

I honestly don't understand why some of you even care about the Kentucky Wildcats at all? College awards are stupid. Staying in school to get educated is dumb. Returning under any circumstance means you're retarded.

When we return key guys we are really good. Period.

UNC has 4 highly rated upperclassmen bigs. Brice Johnson make huge leaps as a senior, fyi, to those you say DJ had maxed out.

Well, when you don't have to go to little things like class or study or write papers college is a blast!
