I gotta agree with bbblazing on this one. I see posters clamoring for Zimmerman just to push dakari out the door. If he has flaws or doesn't win us a national title or four he will be welcomed to leave.

Clamp ring?
Better than the other kind of "c" ring I guess. Probably a valid proclamation, but we should know for sure in the next 12 hours or so.

If he stays one more year, he will be in the same slot in next years draft. You are just losing out on a year of making money in his case.

Maybe because he's projected at end of first round/early second?

Not everyone can be a lottery pick, regardless of how long they are in college.

And it will be in the probably $800,000 range just for next season as a high second round pick. I would leave too.

Re: Dakari?? Seriously....?

clearly there are facets of Dakari's game that can improve - He is challenged under the basket every time he brings the ball below his shoulders around defenders, but he has the height and phyiscal strength to play and he does have a proven ability to score, especially in transition. He just didn't capitalize on his game time as much as he could have.

But we forget that he was instrumental to keeping Kaminsky in check last year.

He wanted to leave last year, but wasn't happy with his draft position. He came back and didn't really improve that at all. I'm guessing he feels like the potential gains aren't worth it.

Re: Dakari?? Seriously....?

I think back over the season and for all his strengths, I still see a guy with a very limited offensive game, footwork that still needs to improve and a 7-foot guy that got his shot blocked at times at the college level. That screams to me that although he'd likely be drafted, he'd be a big guy that would have a hard time staying in the league for a lengthy career. I can help but think another year of college ball would be to his benefit in the long run.

Re: Dakari?? Seriously....?

I wonder how he'd compete against our new big men next year? That might play a role as well. I can't imagine a legitimate NBA prospect coming back for a 3rd year to compete for game minutes.

Re: Dakari?? Seriously....?

I hope he proves me wrong but I don't see dakari lasting in the NBA beyond two years. He had trouble scoring in the post against college players who were not even good enough to play overseas. His lack of any sort of leaping ability will make it very hard on him at the next level. Many athletic centers in the NBA right now and I just don't see it for Dakari. Orton was a better prospect and didn't work out too well for him. I do think DJ can play as long as he likes though but probably overseas. Hope he takes what he makes this first two years and his wise with it. Still good money overseas too though. Best of luck to the kid!!!!

NBA GM on Dakari: "He's almost always in decent defensive position.....like half the time, and he's tall. Not very fast, not a good vertical but he sometimes sets really good screens".

I don't know what mock draft you've been looking at. It's likely Dakari won't even get drafted. Same goes for the Harrison twins.

That's what they are here for...to leave early. Why all the surprise?

It's not a surprise when a player is projected to go in the first round.

We potentially have 3 guys leaving who aren't even listed on some of the mock draft sites. That tells me they need another year, unless their goal is to play in Europe.

Daniel Orton averaged 3 and 3 and got drafted, just saying.
Nobody said nba personel were very smart. They make stupid decisions all the time.

If you are a team, late in the first round with no glaring needs and just looking to take a chance, then taking a chance on a 7 footer isn't a bad way to go,

IF you have to ask that question about getting minutes from incoming freshman it might just be a hint YOU ARE NOT READY FOR THE PRO'S !

Good im glad he is leaving. Nothing but a waste of talent. His nba career will consist in the d league for one season.
I dont know what is being taught to these kids, but Johnson is no where near nba talent. A four foot tall midget could jump higher

Can the mods ban this moron?

Come on guys. This guy is obviously not a UK fan, just started a thread trashing Coach Cal, and is now going after Dakari.

I love Dakari; he needs to do what's best for him.

That said, as a fan, and thinking about what's best for the program - I'd prefer a freshman Zimmerman or Diallo over a junior Dakari.
