Hurley here, winning or competing for championships and acting like a douche or Pike maybe making the tourney in a given year, getting beat in the first round and being a great guy. If those are the two options, I’m taking the douche every day of the week and twice on Sunday’s.

Its not popular here to say but yeah i would put up with his antics if it brought 2 national championships

People also used to say they didn't want one and done players.

"That's not how Rutgers and HC Pike run the program. We're not like Coach K and Duke or those other schools."

1) He wins and wins a lot so it is accepted.
2) His comments made it seem like there was a lot more he was upset about than just one call.
3) I’m not shocked to see this. I’ve witnessed the Hurley brothers, then coaching together, pull one of the lowest class maneuvers I have ever seen in sports on the recruiting trail.

Not under any circumstances? Really ? And with a guy like that it's a potential disaster ready to happen. You'll have more than enough to ***** about--- the horse at football games won't be needed.

Think you're wrong here. It depends onhow offensive he is. Some things take precedent over winning a ball game. What if he was cursing out players or worse-- there are hundreds of situations where a lunatic can go bad. We had one of those unfortunately .The university is an school of higher learning first and foremost.

I don’t understand how your post is responsive to mine

I simply stated that if Hurley brought Rutgers 2 National Championships that Rutgers fans would absolutely tolerate his antics …. just as i am sure UConn fans tolerate him

Your post expresses your opinion of how you wish the world to be (i don’t disagree… I’d like to buy the world a coke as well).

My post is simply stating the way the real world works - Winners get away with a lot. Just the way it is

If you think that winning 2 national championships would excuse any or all bad behavior of certain kinds, you're wrong.

One last time…. I never said I liked it

In fact I AGREED with you - I agreed that I WISH the world wasn’t this way - that winners get away with stuff.

Just stating the obvious - that that’s just the way it is.

My sole point. All along.

Winning two championships and turning down the Lakers have empowered an already insufferable jerk. But once a few years go by without that great success and continued embarrassing outbursts like that, even UConn might have had enough. He will always have a job but wouldn't be surprised if he one day ends up on a Rick Pitino like rehabilitation tour.

@Richie O why was this labeled OT. Basketball board and former Rutgers assistant who some actively compare favorably to our coach. Not OT at all. Maybe, maybe because of @e5fdny on RT it night be OT but i think not even there

I didn't label it OT, but I can see why it is because it doesn't have much to do with Rutgers. It has to do with a coach of another team.

But a former R coach, a NJ coaching family, and someone who is frequently brought up as a comparison or benchmark by a few posters. And the topic of the thread is self evident. Not a huge deal.

The more he wins the more he will be able to test the boundaries of what type of behavior he can get away with. It he was a .500 level coach some of his antics would not be tolerated. He takes Calhoun's working of officials to another level. I can see a Bob Knight on court embarrassing moment in his future.

I gave myself a timeout/cooling off period after Saturday's debacle.

So I've been away. Didn't even know or remember about Las Vegas. Woke up happy. 🙂

That being said, have to agree with @Loyal_2RU here as it's more than fine for a MBB Board discussion because we all know which Hurley were talking about. But maybe not so much for the Round Table. Until we play them in the NCAA Tournament. Hopefully on a Monday night in April. 😎

Also, this guy gets crazier and crazier. In one clip it even looks like he mouths off to his own coach.

Thanks to whomever removed the OT!

Thought Hurley may have turned the corner last year regarding the over the top antics evidently not so. He does win, wouldn’t want my kid playing for Hurley he is a terrible role model for his players.
He can certainly coach and recruit with all his success you would think he doesn’t need to act like the consummate ahole

He should have been T’d up five minutes in when he lost it, but they let him off the hook and gave it to the bench instead.

I find it brutal to hear everyone tonight blasting the ref for T’ing him up. “You can’t call a T in a tie game with a minute left”. Bull crap. If a coach has so little control of him emotions that he’ll flail his body onto the court while arguing, he’s decided that he’s getting a T regardless of the score/time.

And the postgame comments were pathetic.
He was a crybaby as a player too
