Hmmm, I am not sure if this is a good hire, I wonder if his success with the womens program will translate to the men's.

Certainly he has one of the most recognizable names in lacrosse but will that supplant the current hot coaching names when recruiting?

It will in Canada at a minimum. And he will have the leeway with the 'Cuse alums to clean house and take more than 1 year to rebuild.

This is only the FIFTH HC in Cuse's 100x year history of lax. That's like the Pittsburgh Steelers of lax.

I think the writing was on the wall with how Desko and his staff handled the Scanlan situation. Add to that the first round embarrassment against GTown.... = Forced "retirement" for Desko.

Mixed emotions on Desko. On one hand, the guy has a record that 99% of head coaches would die for. On the other, how the Scanlan thing played out was just bad. In today's climate, such decisions are tone deaf. Toss in a lack of final fours and championships and Desko had very little wiggle room.

Really curious about Gait, and presumably, Petro taking over. I think that you're right: this'll be amazing or atrocious with no in-between. Today's player doesn't look at Gait with the awe that adults do. But today's kids have adults all around them to shine a light on who #22 is and what he means to the game. Petro will be a nice balance to Gait's lack of mens coaching experience, and Gait will freshen up Petro's stale and tired approach to the game.

In all, I think it's good for the game for SU to be on the top of the heap and for the greatest player ever to be coaching there. I just hope that we are able to play them on the reg and beat them.

Horrible. But I’m guessing the administration is just as culpable. No way is a coach making decisions alone in a vacuum without guidance. That was a school failure.

With a 45 year track record he might have made the initial decision of his own. What's quite clear is the failure of the administration to step in before the players took their stand.

I highly doubt it. In this day and age in P5 departments, lawyers and the AD are all over this stuff.
