Quantity rather than quality at this point
This. While I didn't read the article, in the past is has been something like Rutgers 25 three star commits = 75 versus something like OSU with 17 four star = 68, so we are ranked higher. The proof in the pudding is the average star ranking as far as the quality goes.
Take a look.at the rankings midweek
We should see some movement
Rutgers = 3.40
Syracuse = 2.94
That's good. But my post wasn't directed towards a Syracuse comparison. It was meant as a general point showing when Rutgers has high rankings, it's due to volume and the average, player ranking is usually below who we are striving to compare ourselves to.

Ohio State, Georgia, Alabama in the Top 5 Recruiting Ranks every year means absolutely nothing.
And it all levels off later on
We have had recruiting years where we get a lot of early verbals, more than most
And we start off with a very high ranking at that point
This,year we have a normal number, which should jump up substantially
this weekend
We should then move up in the rankings quite a bit
Wrong, you misinterpreted my post. Once we get closer to signing day, the blue blood programs will shoot up the rankings invariably pushing us down. Every. Single. Year.
Imagine if you recruited 25 4-star punters and kickers and long-snappers (not that I know there are that many.. or any).

Don't read too much into the rankings at this point in time.
When the recruits have to comment in December, some players you thought you had go elsewhere.

There is a certain OL ranked in the NJ Top 10 who makes his visit today.
We are his first visit and he has 4 more P4 programs to visit in June. Hope we make a lasting impression and get this Top 300 recruit. { published on ESPN}. Would be our 3rd !!

4 of 10 currently listed for RU's class of 2026 are rated 5.8 by Rivals.
Last year's entire class of 27 had just 3.......one of them has already transferred. That class ended up being ranked #30 by Rivals.
We seem to be in a good spot with recruiting right now. Hopefully this weekend provides some more good news.
BTW, we could use some 5.9 or 6.0 rated guys.

This NJ recruiting class is trash. After the Top 4 or so players, it's really weak this year.
You're right except when it comes to Sorrycuse. Anything that has us ahead of them is a good thing because their fans will absolutely lose their minds. I love living rent-free in their minds.
NJ kids are not the same blood and guts players of the past. Most of these kids don't put the work in, although they are talented. They think the world owes them. Over the last decade, I've never seen so many highly ranked NJ kids struggle to play to their ranking. They have not found success like players in the past. It explains why Schiano is recruiting non-traditional places like NC, Ga., Ohio, Michigan, etc. These are states that continue to produce quality and quantity at a high level. NJ does neither these days.

Just went and looked. Their Rutgers thread on Syracusefan is 524 pages and over 13,000 posts long.

NJ kids today outside of the literal top of the rankings are highly overrated and I think Greg sees that like you said. I'd like to see him get a foothold in California for QB recruiting at some point in addition to recruiting the entire East Coast and Midwest.
He has 4 other visits scheduled in June.
Kai probably wants to take advantage of all of them.
I thought I just saw a Rivals 100% prediction for Rutgers.
If we get him this will be our best OL class ever.

Yearly rankings now need to be tge average star rankings(not total points) and the portal rankings- what did you lose vs what did you bring in
ON3 does that with the portal. They have RU 9th in the country.
This is nuts. I'm sure your correct that it's down year for NJ recruits. But why would NJ kids not work as hard? Why would this vary by state? I suspect you are projecting some other world view you have onto football recruiting.
I was a recruit at one time, then went into coaching for years. Later covered recruiting for a different site, so my take on the situation is based on experience. I got out of the game because kids today expect rewards without earning it. The other factor is most of these kids have handlers who are in the kids' ear gas lighting them. There is a reason why so many haven't lived up to their ranking.
A part of me wonders if some kids that may have started late, just dont put the work in needed in a senior year. My son, put in the work between Jr and Sr year of highschool to change from what GS called the biggest kid on the field to being a dominate player.
In this day of age- unranked and 2 star kids that may only find themselves in their Sr year- just don't get the opportunity.
Meaningless at this point of the recruiting season.
USC and surprisingly well recruiting makes no sense at all...
