I love how some of y’all have already given up before the first game because rankings are the be all end all to you because that’s how Cal trained you.

In this era, fit and cohesion are way more important than individual rankings. IU had the best portal class with all the “dudes” and “studs” 2 years ago and missed the tournament. Kansas State had the 4th ranked portal class in 2025 and fired the coach in February. Illinois had the 38th ranked portal class and played in the Final Four.

Do I think this is a Final Four team? Probably not.
Do I think “ThIs TeAm WiLl OnLy WiN 12 gAmEs!!” No.

I would project us a firmly mediocre as the floor with a chance to be very good but not elite as the ceiling.

It might not save Pope’s job, but I ain’t giving up in f’n April. My goodness.
We get it. You’re like soooo level-headed that you need to post it in every thread.

at least I’m only bitching in about 1 out of 5 lol. You spam every thread to remind us how grow’d up and composed you are.

This team is firmly mediocre according to you and nobody should complain? Dude …

I think this chart would be more accurate if it had Diallo and Wilkins starting, with Wilkins also shown backing Diallo up at PG. Outside of garbage time, one of those two should always be in the game. Then Morton and Noah as the other two guards in the main rotation.

Kam then Hawthorne is the obvious order at wing to start the season.

N'Diaye is still a question mark but it certainly seems like the staff brought him in as the presumptive starter.

And then the hole at C needs to be filled. This could realistically be our roster after the addition of a C, possibly the Brazilian guy.

I have a feeling attendance will hit rock bottom this season. It sucks for the players but it’s the only way to get the administration attention and get them to correct this.
Even Derek Anderson questions Popes coaching ability and that’s coming from a former teammate

With a couple of exceptions this is a mid major roster. I have zero expectations and can only hope to be pleasantly surprised with any sort of success beyond a 10th place finish in the conference and making the tournament as 10th seed. And then Pope gets fired.

.500 team

Consider still that the inevitable slew of injuries will happen and numerous 20 pt plus blowouts will follow.

UK will decline NIT and look to hire a new coach in mid to late March.

In all seriousness, that’s my expectation based off the island of misfit toys operating right now in Lexington.

Keep in mind… I love Pope and desperately want him to succeed… but this has been utterly embarrassing to watch.

I'll bet $100 Kentucky adds a wing player who will either be the obvious starter, or certainly be a leading candidate to start. Then Cat fans can assess the roster properly.
Even if they add a "star", that's not going to change the team much. Think of it like Michael Beasley on K-State. They did nothing with him as the only star.

No, Cal didn't teach me that, we barely were ranked his last several years lol.
Also, you're looking at it as if Pope assessed these players and picked them over other players, when in reality these were players thatvhe picked because they were what was left.

Probably 5-7 seed range as is.

Our starting backcourt is likely better than it was this past season. Moreno should improve. Any potential 4 we can throw out there is probably better than Jelavic.

Diallo was about as productive as Aberdeen last season. Any bit of improvement and we are better at the 1.

The 2 and 3 are question marks. Will Wilkins/Hawthorne/Williams/Noah/Morton be more productive than Chandler/Oweh/Johnson/Noah/Williams?

I’m thinking McBride will start the season at the 4 with NDeye backing him up until he gets his footing. But they will eventually play about the same number of minutes

While Pope’s style of basketball is fun to watch, his philosophy and lack of being able to motivate players is what will get him fired after next season. That’s not including his exchanges with media and recruiting.
Players and agents watched us get blown out in the first half of games last couple years and decided Pope wasn’t for them.

While I generally agree with this take, the problem is we haven't gained any ground on our rivals (Tenn, Florida, Duke, etc). A lot of unknowns and wishful thinking with the group we currently have without a true dude.

The most frustrating part of all of this is that the brand of Kentucky and having the money to support the program is getting us the premier players. Whether it's JMI or Pope, that shouldn't fly with this team.

I’m beginning to think Pope is more like Tubby than his old coach. Pope wants team players and just can’t connect with the star players.
