I understand a lot of people on here don't want to talk about this but it's still a very real subject. There's been a lot of talk over the last 2 years about culture and who has been into the Frost culture and who hasn't. Well, there's also a pretty big difference as to who is on the field that has bought in/compared to not/ and who doesn't see the field but is still bought in compared to not.

Just my opinion of course, but I would bet a good chunk of change that, assuming JD is gonzo, Matt Farniok is the last major piece to that "Riley culture" or "buy in problem" that we hear about for players that see major playing time. I do have a snippet of info that supports my opinion but not enough to blow up a full paragraph about it or anything like that.

Im not directing this at JD because I have no idea what is going on with him. There definitely seems to be an issue with guys who were brought in by MR, as most have left. I don't know if it is a weak mentality, a habit of losing, favoritism from Frost towards his recruits. Whatever it is, it is a problem that isn't helping this thing get flipped. The sooner this is 100% Frost guys the better I think.

The cultures fine, its just that it's changed. Problem I see is fans equating won/loss as the be all end all about the culture.
I remind everyone, this is a rebuild, I remind everyone, going back to Bo's days, we haven't put more than 8 guys on the all Big team, and averaged out, each team should have almost 11.
I remind, look at all our guys getting drafted.

It's culture, talent,in some situations, 5 different position coaches etc.

So, new players that have played are few, on one hand, going in,year three. The team hasnt had more than three of its top six recruits actually start half the time, and that was mostly Bo's guys going back before his hot seat.
A lot of damage has happened to the team, the players over the years, the fix is coming, the culture is forming, but it won't be seen til this year, just looking at numbers alone.
When wiscy has as many four stars starting as we do, those other four stars were misses, injured or simply left the team, well, the next level isnt at the same level as wiscys first level of guys, even if not four stars.
Those are some facts.

I think the changes point to the mental health challenges that young people face today. Nationally there is mental health crisis among young people, suicide rates are way up for youth demographic. The data points to social media, the comparison culture, the desire for likes but the oppression of never being able to hide. This has to be painful for a college football player who is so far from home and support, sacrifices so much of their life for a silly thing, and has to acknowledge that they will just be tossed aside and replaced if they can't produce "enough". I can't imagine being 22, finally having the brain structure to see the world for what it is, and then having to care so much about something as stupid as football.

Boom, there's the argument. Then don't play football. My issue is that all these kids who are in high school want the recruiting attention and the social media attention and the likes and the clicks and the best offers and to go the NFL....but when **** hits the fan and life gets real and decisions have to be made that aren't always easy, and someone screws up or something negative happens, it's due to "mental illness". No, you made a life decision and things aren't working great now and you're having to actually grind through something.

I'm sorry but you're kidding yourself if you don't think there is a chance he ends up at Minnesota here in a few months.
I have the gut feeling pj has been working on him since Riley was fired. We’ve been hearing rumors that jd hasn’t been happy since Riley was fired. I have no qualms about jd leaving, just be honest don’t leave you teammates and coaches hang be honest with them and let everyone move on. The sad part is he would hold a lot of school records. I actually would be surprised if he wasn’t playing for the gophers come this fall. And you bet I’d love to be to your wrong in this instance

The one thing I’ll always go back to in these arguments, and I remember seeing the tweet because it got re-tweeted and commented on and liked so many times but to paraphrase it had something to do with “making decisions” once Riley was fired. Lets be honest they all hear and read and see things and knew that we were trying to call Frost home at the time and he still put that out there. People tend to be the most honest when they’re emotional about something, whether it’s good or bad truth they’re speaking. I believe he was cool with the offense because it obviously highlights play makers, but I just don’t think he meshes with “Scott Frost’s Nebraska” and the standard that entails. Body language on Saturdays tells a lot too

The culture is fine. Anytime you have 150 guys on a team there’s always gonna me a couple not bought in.

Frost, Tony Butler, and other players have said multiple times that nearly everyone is bought in.

I don't think it was a secret that he was seriously thinking of leaving after MR was Fired. Im sure he talked with Frost and saw what UCF did and he figured he could excel in this offense. However 2 years in and that hasn't happened. I don't think his heart has been here since Frost arrived. He stuck it out as long as he was mentally able to. I will be shocked if comes back. Im betting he ends up a gopher one way or another.

Yikes. Remember he is a human so there may be other things going on besides football. And not really sure why you are painting him with such a broad brush. JD has always operated behind the scenes and has never really talked to the media or been one to attract attention.

my question is this, he went home, how is he going to be eligible to play, if he is not going to classes and taking tests?

It doesn't have to be football and it doesn't have to be JD. We live in a society today where as soon as real life hits a person and they have to make tough decisions, they fold, and blame it on "mental illness" and "depression" and "anxiety." It's aggravating as hell. People just seem to have a problem with making hard decisions in 2020 and dealing with life and then blame it on something with a name to mask it because they don't want to deal with their own problems.

Be careful with honest assessments in this modern p.c climate. Social justice warriors will tear you up

Just trying to fathom how many times J.D. Spielman could have gone over the middle and caught a pass with a DB closing in to take his head off, if only he wasn't such a big softy who refuses to buy into <internet tough guy font>Scott Frost's Nebraska</internet tough guy font>.

That and he knows the idiot qb is gonna take a 15 yard sack on the next play.

Nothing gives a boost to the culture in a program like the AD coming out with ...”meh ... it might be a couple of more years”

they are probably putting his quote up over the horse shoe for the team to slap as they walk out of the locker room

I’m sure those kind of inspiring words will have JD rushing back

First he has to graduate to become eligible for immediate eligibility. The word is that he is not close to graduating

NCAA is batting 1000 for their waivers up to this point so I wouldn't bet against that trend continuing
I'll bet you $1,000 cash right now that Spielman doesn't play in a game for Minnesota in 2020. Is it a bet?

And by the way I'll be the first to admit I don't know jack **** about J.D. Spielman or his current situation. I'm just 100% convinced that you don't either.

Sure I’ll take your unofficial internet handshake bet....you think he comes back at all then or just done with college football?
