Warm weather likely to prevail again in Week 6, with highs Friday near 90 but some cool down to occur during the games. All Friday night contests.

As many as 5 running clocks are possible with the most interesting matchup by far being Springfield at Jacksonville.

Lincoln (1-4) at MacArthur (4-1)
Congrats to Lincoln on getting their 1st win at Eisenhower last week. Had they lost, the Railers were likely to go 0-9. MacArthur's perfect start came to a screeching halt in Chatham as the Titans running clocked the Generals 49-0. Mac will be a much tougher matchup for Lincoln than Eisenhower. The Generals should improve to 5-1. MacArthur 42 Lincoln 7. Massey: MacArthur 42-7.

QND (3-2) at Lanphier (1-4)
QND will end their 2-game losing streak and improve to 4-2 before a Week 7 battle against Jacksonville. Lanphier still has chances to get another win or two in Weeks 7 (Southeast) and 8 (Eisenhower). QND 44 Lanphier 6. Massey: QND 49-6.

Southeast (1-4) at SHG (4-1)
Other than a Week 2 win against Lincoln, Southeast has given up at least 47 points in all their other games. SHG should have a much cleaner performance at home than against Lanphier last week. SHG 52 Southeast 6. Massey: SHG 49-7.

U High (2-3) at Chatham (5-0)
U High pulled off a major upset last year when they led the entire game and beat Chatham 33-13. Chatham is the last unbeaten team in the conference after shutting out then 4-0 MacArthur last week. The Titans have too much firepower for the Pioneers this time around and should win comfortably. Chatham 53 U High 7. Massey: Chatham 44-14.

Rochester (4-1) at Eisenhower (0-5)
Rochester had a nice bounce back performance last week against U High and should go to 5-1 against the winless Panthers. Rochester 49 Eisenhower 7. Massey: Rochester 49-7.

Springfield (4-1) at Jacksonville (3-2)
The game of the week. Springfield got a nice 35-29 road win last week at QND, critical towards the Solons chances of making the playoffs after an upset Week 2 loss at home against MacArthur. Springfield is averaging nearly 48 points a game, which will be a challenge for a Crimsons defense which has given up 50 points to Highland and 55 to SHG. While Springfield has big play pass capability, it appeared they ran the ball more against QND than they had in earlier games. More challenges for the Crimsons "D". Jacksonville has a strong run attack, with several backs averaging almost 10 yards a carry. If possible, they would like to grind out drives and keep the Solons offense on the sidelines. The best chance for Jacksonville to get the upset would be to keep the score in the 20's. If it goes into the 30's or more, the Crimsons may not be able to match the Solons score for score. After surrendering 40+ points in Weeks 1 and 2, Springfield has made some defensive improvements and held a strong QND offense to 29 last week. Springfield should get the all-important 5th win in a 4-quarter battle. Springfield 42 Jacksonville 26. Massey: Springfield 42-38.

I feel that IF Jacksonville gets physical with their running game SHS will fold. If its a humid/hot night the Crimsons should wear SHS down... IF...

It's their best chance. I almost think gaining 6-8 yards a crack would be better for Jacksonville than busting off a big run here and there, Run the clock.

All.... Homecoming week for SHG. The admin is bringing in the 2005 Cyclone championship team. The first for the school defeating Alleman. RI was coached then by Dave DeJaehgher. Cool dude and I was fortunate enough to talk with him before that game. I wiill have to break out the championship T and wear it. If I can find it. Ratsy

I don't think SHS/Jax will be all that close. But since I wasn't an old guy in the stands on the day my alma mater won a title in 2005 my opinions likely hold no weight in here.

Oh well, another week closer to reality for some...

Btw, @Coleslaw9, I know sometimes context and tone get twisted on forums, that wasn't meant to be said aggressively. That was more of a "why haven't you posted before?" We also, usually, love to talk CS8 football. And I am an idiot, that much you nailed bro. And I also told the internet we'd never win a title long before anyone else. Pop in more often man. The more the merrier to me.

Jacksonville has a string of 3 important games in a row, and they need to win at least 1 to reach that all important number of 5 wins.

SHS>QND>D-MAC

Out of those games, this week's against SHS is the only home game (homecoming actually) so hopefully the energy is high.

All.... A bit more I heard. Alex Reavy is holding some kind of tailgate with a tent for the gathering They are going to have a tribute film and are hoping to see more that are coming in at the KC Hall if unable to make the game and event. Ratsy

Im a rural type of man so I want Jacksonville to win... Besides they run the ball and only morons like RPO :p So wanting Jacksonville to win I say...

Jacksonville 35
SHS 21

I don't believe UHigh scores more than once but...
Rochester just needs to stay injury free and healthy!
SHG will run the ball because they can't pass worth a ****!
DMac has had a very long week at practice from what I've heard!

Jacksonville's chance comes with possession. If they can limit Scheffler's attempts, they could... It'll be interesting to see. And RPO hasn't sucked for the 3-time Super Bowl Champions. Surely you don't think Andy Reid is a moron?

I'll take your score in reverse.

-U-High will get skunked. But so will everyone not named Rochester or SHG this year... more to come on that though... obviously a certain program in the West is riding awfully high having not yet played the real teams in the conference yet.
-Rochester cruises
-No comment, but lol
-Mac will be ok. To be fair, they're a surprise no matter what bc no one had any idea what they'd look like this season. And the QB change (forced by injury) appeared to be a blessing in disguise until Glenwood. But that one may be tough to gauge...

All... The old axiom still applies. Publicity good or bad (perception) is still correct. Time to worry when one doesn't even rate talking about. That applies to football teams as well. Ratsy

I don't watch the NFL (nor NBA) little brother... I do like Andy Reid... And it was good to "see" KC win a superbowl... Like it was cool to see the Red Sox and Cubs win world series... Who doesn't like a fat man with one foot on death's doorstep, coaching with his hair on fire!?

If I were betting money I would take SHS depending on the points but since no money is involved I went with "hope!"

Andy Reid is the John Wayne of Pro Football...

Since literally no one knows what this means I'll assume it's a muse for you alone...

I'm reminded now of a lyric, paraphrased from a song, which is sung by mouth to, with, or overlayed to music. I think music was around when you were born? The first musical instrument dates back some 60,000 odd years, I'll let you fill in all the details that have happened globally since then though. A pre-covid selection for the aging mind. More importantly, a short one, bc we both know you've been struggling to keep up...

"He hates me. I like that."

Scurry now... your pile of dirt in the corner is calling your name.

Edit: Ahh, it came to me... whited sepulcher...

All.... Ohh I think you know what I mean short stuff. Unless you are slow.... And don't lie you had to look up the definiton of axiom. lol Never been and will never be. That one is pretty simple even for you. Not something your program and fans like to think about when it comes to QND football and there historical resume but alas if the shoe fits and it does. Accept that level of play and try to be happy with it. History doesn't lie. But you will always be able to clutch that pearl necklace you wear around your neck and the one victory over SHG for years and years to come. It will have to be enough.... As always have a pleasant evening. Ratsy

All.... Forgot to mention the 105 yards rushing for Knoedler is misleading. I was told by one that would know like Cam they have/had designed running plays made up for him. But held those plays until the Rochester game as an element of surprise. I don't recall but think it was successful . Now it's part of the regular playbook and another offensive weapon defenses will have to deal with. Ratsy

All.... For the SHG fans that frequent this board (there are many) and aimed at those who tailgate. Getting the word out. I just got back from the school after receiving a call from one of the coaches on staff. The "Griffin" woods is still available but now have another area. Usually there are 10 or 15 Cyclone tailgates going on in that huge plot of land and they are spread out all over. The new area is gated and the idea is to get everyone in close proximity with each other for community "bread breaking" and pregame fun. Sounds like a plan.

Easy to find drive into the main entrance of the west campus (east side) where the complex is located. Drive all the way straight in and see the fence. And yes one is likely to notice a rodent scurrying around in but another corner. Ratsy

All.... I completely forgot. Calling rocketnation. Just found out the little Cycs are now 6-0 having defeated the ESTL Wildcats. Although I'm told there are a boat load of JFL teams in the ESTL area . So settle down. lol My query because I heard the Rocket JFL team is mauling everyone they play.... how good is that team? The reason I ask I think the little Cycs play them the last game of their season. That one might be ugly for the SHG JFL team. I'm still shocked they are 6-0 in what is year one of fielding a team. 8th grade?

Have not seen a JFL game yet this year. Next weekend, they play Chatham, and I plan on going to the 7th/8th grade games. A friend's son plays for the 7th grade team.

I do have scores from their games (8th Grade), not sure if they've overlapped opponents with the Jr Cycs.
Twin City Tigers 36-0
Williamsville 20-0
Bloomington Knockers 33-0
Springfield Bears 36-0
Mattoon 39-12

All.... Along with homecoming tonight at the SHG/Southeast game tonight they are having kids get in free night. That's big when the Catholics don't pick up extra coin. lol Anyway at 4:30 the JFL team is playing against the Springfield Bears and I would assume it's the 8th grade team.

Cyclones schedule showing that last game against Rochester on their schedule is Saturday October 18 3pm at K.L. Stadium. Don't recall but believe I previously mentioned all state TE Ken Boyle from Chatham who was instrumental on the 1998 championship team for the then Redskins is the JR Cyclones HC.

Different subject I picked up this morning some pork chops at Humphrey's for the get together tonight. Wearing an old beat up SHG shirt that the butcher noticed we talked about the upcoming game He has a grandson a sophomore rb that is playing. Limited time at the moment but they expect him as he matures to really be a force in the upcoming years. He mentioned aware that one of the Spartans big problems are overall numbers the staff is working hard very hard to get kids to come out.

Local radio saying a chance of isolated showers or a thunderstorm today in the afternoon. Hoping it holds off. Would like a look see at the Cycs JFL team. Ratsy
