Warm weather likely to prevail again in Week 6, with highs Friday near 90 but some cool down to occur during the games. All Friday night contests.
As many as 5 running clocks are possible with the most interesting matchup by far being Springfield at Jacksonville.
Lincoln (1-4) at MacArthur (4-1)
Congrats to Lincoln on getting their 1st win at Eisenhower last week. Had they lost, the Railers were likely to go 0-9. MacArthur's perfect start came to a screeching halt in Chatham as the Titans running clocked the Generals 49-0. Mac will be a much tougher matchup for Lincoln than Eisenhower. The Generals should improve to 5-1. MacArthur 42 Lincoln 7. Massey: MacArthur 42-7.
QND (3-2) at Lanphier (1-4)
QND will end their 2-game losing streak and improve to 4-2 before a Week 7 battle against Jacksonville. Lanphier still has chances to get another win or two in Weeks 7 (Southeast) and 8 (Eisenhower). QND 44 Lanphier 6. Massey: QND 49-6.
Southeast (1-4) at SHG (4-1)
Other than a Week 2 win against Lincoln, Southeast has given up at least 47 points in all their other games. SHG should have a much cleaner performance at home than against Lanphier last week. SHG 52 Southeast 6. Massey: SHG 49-7.
U High (2-3) at Chatham (5-0)
U High pulled off a major upset last year when they led the entire game and beat Chatham 33-13. Chatham is the last unbeaten team in the conference after shutting out then 4-0 MacArthur last week. The Titans have too much firepower for the Pioneers this time around and should win comfortably. Chatham 53 U High 7. Massey: Chatham 44-14.
Rochester (4-1) at Eisenhower (0-5)
Rochester had a nice bounce back performance last week against U High and should go to 5-1 against the winless Panthers. Rochester 49 Eisenhower 7. Massey: Rochester 49-7.
Springfield (4-1) at Jacksonville (3-2)
The game of the week. Springfield got a nice 35-29 road win last week at QND, critical towards the Solons chances of making the playoffs after an upset Week 2 loss at home against MacArthur. Springfield is averaging nearly 48 points a game, which will be a challenge for a Crimsons defense which has given up 50 points to Highland and 55 to SHG. While Springfield has big play pass capability, it appeared they ran the ball more against QND than they had in earlier games. More challenges for the Crimsons "D". Jacksonville has a strong run attack, with several backs averaging almost 10 yards a carry. If possible, they would like to grind out drives and keep the Solons offense on the sidelines. The best chance for Jacksonville to get the upset would be to keep the score in the 20's. If it goes into the 30's or more, the Crimsons may not be able to match the Solons score for score. After surrendering 40+ points in Weeks 1 and 2, Springfield has made some defensive improvements and held a strong QND offense to 29 last week. Springfield should get the all-important 5th win in a 4-quarter battle. Springfield 42 Jacksonville 26. Massey: Springfield 42-38.
