Wildcats Pick Up Road Win Over Titans to Start Season | Channel 1450

Attended this game. Walking into the stadium noticed three gentlemen talking in a tight huddle on the CW's side. They looked like coaches ready for battle. I had the opportunity to speak with them for a few minutes. The group had heard about the Titans possibly going with the wishbone but mentioned were prepared for anything. The Flyers were brought up in the conversation as well and one of the coaches mentioned eastside has (or will) petition up into class 7A.

I also sat in front of the head clinician (football) for the Ihsa. They send people out (60) all over the state to evaluate how the referee's do in the game. This is done without notice. The gentleman had some great stories as we watched.

Speaking of the game. Hard to evaluate. Th schools played like it was an opener for the season. Lots of mistakes for both squads more so for the Wildcats. Several balls snapped over the Wildcat's quarterback killing drives and a few dropped passes.

Chatham with the opening series. The first pass and play by QB Young was picked off. He was a bit shaky on his early throws but settled in as the game progressed. The Titans are not big on both sides of the ball but very quick especially on defense. Db's are very active.

All of the preseason talk of the wishbone which the Titans would run was somewhat premature. Oddly the passing game ended up being the most effective part of their offense. Most of the time short passes especially with those speedy rb's coming out of the backfield. Fast and quick and can hurt a team. Kudos to Coach Dambacher for having a massive offensive playbook with mulitple formations that his players have learned.

I honestly didn't know who would win this game until the start of the second half. CW made all of the correct halftime adjustments and for the most part controlled the second half.

It's still early but I believe Chatham is going to be better then what everyone thought. What that means in wins and losses before the postseason I haven't a clue. Last if I had to pick one player out on the Titan team that impressed me the most it would be the kicker Nate Mansfield. Line drive kickoffs into the endzone with room to spare was quite impressive A big weapon for the team. Ratsy
You can't just switch from soft RPO to a power running attack. You have to change the whole mindset of blocking... That takes a few years... Maybe the talent pool has shrunk a bit in Chatham.

I was trying to hold off as long as possible to give ratsy a chance to show off the catch and talk about it, but that's probably the sickest catch you'll ever see out of a high school kid. The momentum alone from that being a week 1 walk off, in that fashion, with that catch, will likely catapult the Cycs towards their goals this season...
