Great weather forecast for Friday. High around 80.

Playoff Update
In and Likely getting a Week 10 Bye- Rochester, SHG, MacArthur, and Jacksonville.
In but Playing Week 10- Chatham and QND.
Out- Lanphier. This week their best chance to not go 0-9.
Extremely Unlikely- Lincoln. Needs to win both Weeks 8 and 9. -293 point differential to-date.
Needs Help- U High. Likely 1-7 going into Week 9 against Springfield. They do have 40 playoff points so a 2-7 record could get them in.
Better than Even- Springfield. A Week 9 win at home against U High would get them their 3rd win.
Looking Favorable- Southeast. Gets a forfeit this week for their 2nd win. Needs to beat Lincoln at home next week for their 3rd.

Lanphier (0-7) at Lincoln (1-6)
Both teams may start a Freshman at QB due to injuries. While Lanphier has lost every game, they have scored twice as many points as the Railers this season. Lincoln scored 40 points Week 1 but has only 13 since then. They got their 1st offensive TD since Week 1 last week against Hillsboro and had another called back on a penalty before ultimately losing 49-7. Lanphier 26 Lincoln 21. Massey: Lincoln 38-28.

Jacksonville (6-1) at U High (1-6)
The Crimsons are averaging 44 points per game, while U High is giving up 44 points a game. U High did score twice on Rochester last week and has a running QB who can also throw fairly well. Jacksonville's big play running attack should be very successful against a struggling Pioneers defense. Jacksonville 57 U High 24. Massey: Jacksonville 45-20.

Springfield (2-5) at MacArthur (6-1)
After back-to-back wins against Lanphier and Southeast, Springfield again had issues with turnovers and penalties that bothered them earlier in the season and lost 37-14 to QND. MacArthur led Chatham 35-7 in the 4th Quarter and then hung on for a 48-35 victory. It was their first win over an opponent with a winning record. The Generals had multiple long TDs in the game, even as lead RB Cayden Brown is still battling an injury and played sparingly. MacArthur 44 Springfield 13. Massey: MacArthur 42-18.

QND (4-3) at Chatham (4-3)
Both teams are in the playoffs but will most likely be playing Week 10. The winner may get a home game that week, while the loser will probably go on the road. After a tough Week 1 loss to Decatur St Teresa, QND has steadily improved and is only allowing 16 points per game. Chatham has surrendered 113 points the last two weeks in losses to Rochester and MacArthur. They did rally from a 35-7 4th Quarter deficit last week to get within 42-35 in the final seconds at Decatur. QND would like to control time of possession and keep Chatham's offense off the field. Expect Chatham to start fast but for this game to also go down to the final drive. QND 26 Chatham 23. Massey: Chatham 35-18. For whatever reason, the Massey algorithm has loved the Titans this season.

SHG (6-1) at Rochester (7-0)
The Game of the Week. Last year, these teams played twice in Weeks 9 and 12. Both games went down to the final play, and the total point difference was 9. Each team returns many of their key players from last year. SHG features QB Cam Brinkman, RB Mikey Groesch, and WR Andrew Wolters. Rochester has QB JP Leonard, RB Evrim Tabag, and WR Nate Swaney. The programs know each other as well as any in the area. Regardless of the season or team's records, I always expect this game to be close and to be decided by a handful of plays. Rochester 35 SHG 28. Massey: Rochester 40-22.

Excellent job as usual Rocket!~

Massey is, well, Massey... I don't like it but many do.

History over gut with the Cyclone/Rockets game... Gut tells me, since both are "slated" for 4A, not every play in the book will be used in this game. With that said, I know DL wants a resounding thumpin because the Batavia game is the litmus for this season... Crushing a 7A team and then struggling with a 4A team will make people notice. I've never liked SHG so I want this game to be a asswhoopin! I know the Rocket players want it as well... Sure the players will use coach speak when talking about the game but in their hearts they want another statement win... I mean, hell, they beat a damn good 7A team then dismantled a...goodish 6A team now comes a good 4/5A team. Tell me you wouldn't want to pound SHG if you were in the Rockets locker room? It would be another feather in the Rockets hat... Rockets will be motivated. Im a dinosaur and I have seen rivalry games in every sport go south for one team... It happens all the time. Will it be a 65-24 Rocket victory? Could be... Could it be a 35-7 victory? Yep... I don't see the Cyclones winning it unless the 12th man wearing stripe have a play in the game... IYKYK ;);)
Rockets 49-17

Ugh... With the Titans playing "radar" defense up front, the QND QB will have plenty of time to scan the field, order a pizza, and pick apart the Titans defense. Being a Raidha's fan I hope they do well... I am also a Titan at heart... a very heavy heart after the last two weeks of getting *** spanked... I play the devils advocate well and I can see QND winning this game... The question is will they? I'm concerned with the mindset of the Titans... Its been a long time since a Titans team had two asswhoopins back-2-back and using my Psychology degree and knowing the youth of today are a bit soft, I think the time is ripe for a Raiders victory...
QND 38-24 Believe me, a part of me says the Titans will win... That's on paper... The game will be real...

SHS could sneak up on the Generals... On paper the General should win by 14+ but... Maybe its the revenge in me for the Titans loss but I feel that SHS could win this... Is it hope or stupidity? House money right?!
SHS 32-28

You would have to be the greatest football fan to take in the Lanphier/Lincoln game for pure entertainment!!!
Lanphier 16-14 in overtime... The Lions win it on a 90 yard sack of the Lincoln QB who runs the wrong way, aka, Carl Eller of the Vikings...

Jacksonville is a RUN THE DAMN BALL MACHINE...
Jacksonville 55-28

I wish I was as confident in the QND/Glenwood pick as others. As QND homer though, it's best to be realistic past week 7 given our history. I'm confident QND has gotten better each week... I'm not confident that results in defeating the Titans in Chatham.

It's one of those weird years where we're all so high on Rochester... has SHG flown under the radar... It smells of Catholic underdog story... As Mariah Carey sang... It's a sweet, sweet fantasy baby!

Jacksonville might score 80. putting that out there.

I think Mac/SHS could be closer That's why I'm picking +11 on Mac. SHS wasn't nearly as awful as I expected or had heard. They were undisciplined as some teams are now and then... QND was also sloppy last week or it could have been a wider margin. Just a feeling though this will stay tight... Mac could also win this by 50 and we wouldn't be shocked either... 🤷‍♂️

Lincoln 28-13
Jacksonville 56-13
Mac 41-30
Glenwood 35-18 (taking the massey pick... Idk what to guess. If it's ugly, it's expected... if it's close, that'll hurt more)
SHG 35-34 (Rockets score late, failed 2pt, Cycs in the upset... because why not!?)

John Venvertloh was named Muddy River POW after defeating SHS this past week... A nice little write up about QND's QB1...
Passing: 12/16 169yds, 2 TD; Rushing 40yd, 1 TD

Extracted, link at bottom for full write up from MRS' Chris Duerr...

Muddy River Sports Player of the Week

John Venvertloh, QB, Sr., Quincy Notre Dame

Rationale:
Win needed. Win provided.

Quincy Notre Dame’s 37-14 victory at Springfield, given its placement within the construct of the Raiders’ brutal regular-season schedule, looms very large here, as did the utterly stellar quarterback play that helped evoke it.

Venvertloh sizzled from the start in helping the Raiders build a 21-0 lead with two passing strikes for scores and a 1-yard keeper on the game’s opening drive to create positive inertia and put QND in the driver’s seat. And if we have learned anything at all about this particular squad this year, it is obvious this group is far better at football when it is dictating rather than reacting. That may not be the most mind-boggling revelation ever uttered in this space, but sometimes football is a simple game.

Be the best version of who you are and you tend to win a lot of games in this crazy sport.

And it might be truer for the Raiders’ QB than anyone on the roster.

Venvertloh seemed to be at his purpose-driven best Friday night at Memorial Stadium. His numbers were inarguably very good. He completed a dozen of his 16 passes for 169 yards and three touchdowns. And he ran the football for another nearly 40 yards.

I’d hazard to guess Venvertloh’s command was even better than his stats.

The young man has experienced his share of ups and downs this season with a lot of roster turnover around him. The degree of personal difficulty for Venvertloh this year was markedly higher. That established, his skills as a rhythm quarterback and feel for the game at max-q are margin shifters. To marshall such a great opening drive in such an important spot set the table for everything else that followed.

Venvertloh is admittedly a little “cursed” as a quarterback in being such an intelligent and driven kid to the point he sometimes overthinks the game or second guesses himself for being imperfect. The irony of which is he tends to be otherworldly as a table-setter in those moments where he gives himself some grace and just plays. The groove he got immediately into Friday, given all that was riding on the Raiders against Springfield, is pretty clear evidence Venvertloh is starting to really figure out the self-management aspect of the position as well.

And that “I’m-having-insane-fun-with-this-game” version of Venvertloh is field-tilting for QND and should give every defensive coordinator on the schedule night terrors.

If that Week 7 performance is any indicator, that evolution of the kid appears to be here for good. And because of that, QND might well navigate this regular season end game far better than anyone outside the program expects.

ughhhh are we ready to admit that this is not a good football conference?

only 2 games to actually discuss as usual and they are gonna go mmmmmmmmm chalk

QND is gonna beat Glenwood. You know Chatham is in a bad spot when SHG isn’t recruiting them kids out of the handshake line

Ughhhhhh game of the week is actually gonna be a ppppppppounding

Derek “chins” leonard is gonna run that score up. SHG has a big line but them boys are soft and weak. Look for this to not be as close as the score. I’m think 42-21 never in doubt rockets.
