Passed away last night. Very sad. He was obnoxious as the Picker, but you missed him when he left the World.

I enjoyed his writing.
You're right, very sad.
Especially after Bill Paxton and Judge Wapner both passed yesterday.

I knew about the Picker deal...sometimes he was obnoxious, sometimes flat out hysterical. Much better than whoever took over the role after he left.

Had no idea he wrote Funny Farm and Let It Ride. Hilarious movies.

RIP Mr. Cronley. Years ago when I was a college grunt at the Trib, he used to scare the bejeezus outta me. He'd walk over to the sports department every Monday afternoon and get everyone's opinion on the MNF game. Obviously b/c he was gonna lay some cash. I'd always go to the bathroom or take a smoke break. I didn't wanna be the reason he lost money.

Cronley was one of a kind. He was in his heyday is the Tribune Picker. Of course, I'm biased since I used to work at the Tribune as a youngster. He was still hilarious for the World, but they cut down his space there.

It was funny when he went to the World because he would always rip the World in his Picker columns at the Tribune. I guess that is why his World Picker column wasn't even in the sports section for his first year at the World. I think it was on page 2 of the paper.

I enjoyed Quick Change, Let it Ride, and Funny Farm as movies. The old security guards at the World/Tribune were smartly portrayed by Bob Elliott in Quick Change.
