I guess I would be considered a liberal. I hate what's happening in Afghanistan, but I'm not sure what else we could or should be doing. We've spent 20 years there and at some point they have to decide what they want to be. We have certainly seen that nation building with the military doesn't seem effective.
I think that this situation is a long term fail with a lot of blame that can go all around throughout multiple presidencies.
My rudimentary understanding is that we have been withdrawing for a long and time, and that this was basically ripping off the band-aid. I certainly think it's fair to question if that was the right move,but I don't know what would have worked better.
At the end of the day, the Afghans don't seem willing to fight the Taliban or Sharia law, apparently that is what they are choosing.

But Trump's been banned and the DHS has labeled Americans who question government policies as "Domestic Terrorists."
Hopefully Gen Milley has better success at sorting out all that domestic white rage .........

Someone should ask them if they appreciated that Trump had one of their founders and another 5000 of them released from prison prior to the US pulling out of Afghanistan. I am sure that gave the Afghan military a huge vote of confidence.

We just handed the Taliban and Al Qaeda more than 6 SE drones, MRAPS, Humvees, M4's, M240's, MBT LAWs, 50 cals, NODS, a variety of sniper rifles...... etc. Those drones will be sold to China and Russia so they can pillage our technology and the rest gets distributed to fighting forces.
If we have to return to collect our 10,000 left behind Americans, things just got exponentially harder given we shutdown our most critical airbase and it's now secured and held by the Taliban. If surrounding countries decide not to help us, our fellow Americans could be in real trouble should the historically reasonable and diplomatic Taliban choose to slaughter them or keep them as hostages.
For those that seemingly want to blame a former president, the current one reversed every single policy Trump put in place his first several months in office......a new record of executive orders but he managed to keep this one. If the State Department has ordered a Noncombatant Evacuation Order (NEO) then it's up to the American citizens to get to selected departure centers. If you have a US Passport, you will be processed and given transportation out of the country to the nearest suitable airport/port/whatever. Whatever it takes to get you out of immediate danger. That may be all the way back to the US. The State Department will send you a bill for the transportation after the fact (literally).
I doubt US forces will leave a safe zone to assist US nationals getting to the airport.
No sure what an SE drone is....but I am confident that the ANDSF didn't operate any drones.
We didn't had over any of the other stuff. The ANDSF may have, but we haven't. Doesn't matter much, The Taliban don't have the spare parts to maintain most of that stuff.
I've been deployed a few times for NEO's, there is no way the majority of those American Citizens are leaving their dwellings to risk the journey to an airport unless the Taliban are in the streets promising safe passage and our government is directly delivering the same message. What I'm reading and what I'm told from my own contacts is we have done nothing more than secure the airport so the Taliban can't destroy or impede the runway as our heavy planes wouldn't be able to land or take off.
