Crest at Shelby

Not sure if Crest has played anyone who does a three player stack split at wide receiver. It creates much confusion for even pro DBs. Shelby uses it very well.
I'm going to remind our Shelby brethren of something before we get too carried away about our offense. Two years ago we an experienced line with RJ, RB Washington (Youngstown ST) WR Jolly (GW) and WR Wright and Chad Reid and scored 14 points on a Crest D probably not as good as this one. I'm not saying this team can't score some, but I think we are fooling ourselves if we believe we are going to score like we did on Freedom and AC. Shelby's D will have to step up consistently for us to win this game or I believe it will be very similar to two years ago. Just keeping it real.
Yes they do.. It all comes down to teenagers in front of a huge crowd doing their jobs. Shelby is going to be a load. Anyone who comes on here suggesting otherwise is a fool.
Dont post on here often, just read to get a scoop on things going on back home in Cleveland County and a good laugh every now and then. But with such a big game I figured Id throw my 2 cents in. The only other game I could compare this hype to is the 2000 game (i think) between Crest/Burns when they had Goss/Briscoe and I believe Crest had Brandon Boone and Crest pulled it out in an amazing game. This game is much bigger with all the implications and both teams (hopefully) on their way to state titles. My opinion, Crest's secondary has rarely been tested but when they have they have shown up. This will be by far their biggest test yet and I honestly think they shut down the Shelby passing attack, this group is very underrated with great athletes. With Greene improving greatly in the passing game from last year it just adds another element Shelby will have to defend. The achiles heel for Crest will be turnovers and penalties which have seemed to be a problem all year. If they lose that battle then they lose the game. With all that said it is great to see the County representing. Living in Eastern NC now there isnt a county I know of that is on the same level as Cleveland County. I brag all the time about this great rivalry which in my opinion is the best in the entire state. Good luck to both teams and I hope to see both bringing back state titles again this year.

Truth is, I have no clue what is going to happen in this game. Would not be shocked by a win by either team. Both are very good.

We don't play very smart, to be honest. Tons of penalties. Back-breaking penalties. We can't do that Friday.
I actually agree with Rulz. If we could run more and control the clock, we'd be even more deadly. But, that's not gonna happen, and we can score a bunch, so...

Damn.....simply show a somewhat balanced stat sheet and Rulz has to go all J.K. Rowling and write a novel on us. In no way do I think we go three passes and score....I think we go one pass and score....lol....kidding. Our conference does suck and thus our first teams only played a half in most games. When Wright or Borders gets behind a weak secondary, we don't run it much....that is what I was implying. The passing game failed against KM due to the weather and we made some adjustments....before you start screaming...I know the Crest defense is not the KM defense. We have coaches that make great adjustments....that'll be no different Friday night if something isn't working.

I agree with your last statement. This really is advertised to be the best game ever in the rivalry...on paper. Undefeated, last game of the regular season, both State Champions last year (how often does one conference have two state champions?), back to back title game appearances, conference championship, county championship.....so much hype going into this game. I really hope it lives up to the hype! I am very proud of CleCo! Best football county in the state! You won't hear me say you're no good....your defending state 3A champs and 10-0, 26 games in a row. Come on Friday.
So....here is the question....would Crest fans rather beat Shelby and lose the State Championship game or lose to Shelby this Friday and win the 3A championship this year?
I didn't ask you about your passing game against KM hotshot. I said your run defense was not up to par for a good portion of that game. They plowed your starters for Three TD'S.
I'm just trying to discuss football, if you don't want to discuss it with me then find someone else to bicker with. I'm better than you at bickering, although, I do come off as a butthole sometimes (on purpose), you come off as a someone who is a bit unhinged and, quite frankly as crazy as Edith Bunker on Adderall.
Personally, I'd like to do just like last year. Beat Shelby and win the Championship. That's the plan by the way.
Truly it's going to be a great game against two incredible teams. I have respect for both programs. The players will see the community support Friday night.
In fairness, the KM game was an anomaly. Awful weather, we played bad, and KM is a pretty good team.
Actually KM had 0 rushing TDs against Shelby. They threw three TD's on some back up corners who were filling in due to injuries. KM had 103 yards rushing on Shelby on 31 attempts. KM rushed for 83 against Crest.
I am going out on a limb here but my guess is that is the first ever Edith Bunker refer on ncpreps...Thanks Rulz, now I got that damn theme song in my head the rest of the day....lol
This will literally be the best offense vs the best defense... I think if Shelby wants to win this game then they will have to be able to run the ball against that tough/physical Crest defense to keep Crest safety's and LB's on their toes. There's no way that shelby will win this ball game by just passing all night. People fail to realize that Crest LB core is elite not only when it comes to run stopping but pass defense. Those guys can defend the pass well bc they all can zone cover fairly well which makes the DB's jobs easier in that zone coverage. But I will say that you can't allow Lee to have too much time in the pocket bc he'll pick any defense apart with that elite WR core that Shelby has. Not really gone talk about Crest offense bc those guys will score multiple touchdowns on an average Shelby defense. Crest 28 Shelby 14
Who ever loses, I can assure you it won't be a upset. I don't know much about either teams. But the history and past. Two of the best programs in the state going at it for a conference championship. Win or lose, I believe both wins state. What else can u ask for?

Both teams pretty much suck and play padded schedules and all this 3A talk is a joke and makes me sick. Everyone in the state knows that 3A football has been a joke for the past two years and is clearly the weakest division in the state of NC.
Having said that, I hate both teams and wish neither could win, but then it would be a tie and the Shelby sorts would boast on how they tied the greatest team in the state and Craet would say they cheated.
IMO both teams are truly loaded to the gills and have great teams this year. I hate both teams, but love to watch them play. Its sort of like watching that fighter you hate just because you want to see them get KO'd. This could very well be a true match of the best two teams in the state. From all of the teams that I have seen this year, few of them match up against either team. I watched MC play Vance and left with the thought that Crest and Shelby both have better offense and similar defenses and would walk away with wins. Crest is the biggest team I have seen all year and has great Great speed and fundamentals to go along. Shelby is the fastest I have seen this year and has great size and fundamentals to add as well. I have to give Crest the edge in this one just because I don't see those boys being denied this year. They really have had a special team these past two years and I'm glad I have been able to see them play as much as I have. The same goes form Shelby. good luck to both teams here, this should be one of the best games in years in the State of NC.

I know us boys in the East don't really know good quality FB, but Wallace Rose Hill and Clinton are in the same conference, and WRH won the 1A state championship and we know Clinton lost to Shelby in the championship, WRH only loss last year was to Clinton. So while not on the same level as Shelby and Crest, still 2 talented teams in the same conference capable of winning a title every year.
I am a Shelby graduate and taught at Crest Middle when the current Crest players were there. I will pull for Shelby this Friday but after that will pull for Crest to win another State Championship. The Crest players are not only great athletes but very good kids as well. I am a little concerned about Harbison because he killed us last year and I think our defense was much better then. After this game I hope Cleveland County unites and brings back 2 State Championships. Good luck Crest, after this game.

Shelby might be the dynasty of NC, but Crest is the dynasty of Cleveland county. Shouldn't be too much trouble leaving Shelby Friday night since the entire home crowd will be gone by the end of third quarter. Suck it!
