After blowing out Newton Conover in the jamboree expectations are high for this charger squad. With a new offense and new defensive coordinator it will take a while to get settled in. Fortunately Freedom is next. Always good to have a tuneup before butting heads with Burns and Shelby.
Minimize penalties, turnovers opportunities for Refs to make mysterious calls and I expect Crest to win.

Freedom's defense has really struggled in scrimmages. Crest could be considered the early conference favorite I like Crest by 4 scores but it wouldn't surprise me by a running clock

Burke County football used to have some talent and decent teams. Not so much anymore.

You give Freedom about 2700 students and they could field a decent team. East Burke with about 2300 and they could field a team. Credit to them they always showed up on time.

Freedom has some talent on offense. QB and RB look the best, but they lack the team speed that Crest has. Might be ugly in the later parts of the game. Chargers 35 Freedom 14

Crest by 28. But as SL said it's one of those weird places to play and crazy things always seem to happen at Freedom.

Would love to see Statesville and Crest schedule each other 1st game of the year.

Been hearing alot of good things about this year's Crest team. Are they the best team in Cleveland Co? Expecting big things from Charger Nation.

I’ve seen some of the worst calls in football at Freedom with different teams from this county playing up there. I was very impressed with Crest even though NC didn’t match them well. I think speed will kill in this one and Crest has a ton of it. Field conditions may not be favorable but I still think Green has a night. Ruff will be a huge factor in the trenches. Good luck to Crest!

I love the fact that the game. Is still three days away and your already whining about the Refs. Good Lord, everybody saying three TD’s to a running clock and you cry about Refs. Good luck Shetland Ponies. I can’t wait to see what is said when the ponies lose a game.

The phenomenon is real SP78. Some say the Netflix show Stranger Things idea was born from the mysterious, baffling calls by the local referees in Morgantown.

My understanding is that local refs are only used when they can’t find enough out of county refs to call games. I’m not sure that’s fact but that’s what I’ve been told. Schools have no say in who calls games.

Hopefully the Chargers can get a something going in the kicking game(soccer player) and hopefully another O Lineman develops on the JV roster so we can move a lineman up before conference starts. Both lines where out of gas in second half. Good win though..

I'll take the win and be happy, the kids are still getting in shape. No reason to start talking about conditioning after the first game. I think we've got something special happening at Crest that I haven't seen since Barnes left.

Oh yeah, I mean when this guy(Shatley) has Tom Knotts on the sideline prob alittle concerned it speaks volumes. The Tom Knotts Indy days is a 10 12 15 pg trend all by itself, so I hope I don’t get myself or anyone started on that ha ha. I think Crest was one of the schools that legitimately beat Knotts before more Charlotte all stars starting suiting up for him. Give that man 3 years with Highland Tech or Cherryville he’ll have them winning several in a row ha ha.

Several Crest players playing both sides of the ball. Conditioning is a major issue with little depth on lines. One poster mentioned the kicking game needs to improve. Realistically there currently is no kicking game. Give the kid credit for trying but the lack of a kicker could cost the Chargers a couple wins this season.
Defense hung in there with that grown man running the ball for Freedom. Good first win for Coach Sosebee.

Lots of stuff to work on. We are not in the picture for trophies this year. But, Coach has the program pressing forward. You can see the vision clearly.

Crest fans need to relax and stay positive no matter what goes on.
They better get us this year.
