Collin chandler is a good player but we saw how easily he could be taken out of games. I'd much rather have a guard who is slightly worse from 3 but much better at creating, dribbling, passing and getting a bucket. I've been critical of Pope, because I'm honest, and I'm being honest when praising him, I think Wilkins is a MUCH better addition than almost every guard Pope has had here so far.

Just like I told my kids growing up if you can dribble and create you can get whatever shot you want. Gotta be able to create and get your shot if you can’t get open doesn’t matter how well you shoot it.

We need a shooter though.
Michigan won the championship with 2 made 3's, the analytics have shown 3-pt shooting is somewhat overrated. A guy who only sits at the 3pt line and can get shut down can be quite useless a lot of the time. Which is why when the offense stalls it REALLY stalls. You need creators, especially in March. I also trust Wilkins and Kam to be good shooters.

It's gge reason we lost to iowa st. Only 2 guys on the floor that could dribble a basketball.
No idea who ranked Chandler in the 30s of the portal but they're badly mistaken

3P shooting is only overrated if you don't have guys who can shoot them. I'd rather have two players that are statues on offense and shoot > 40% from 3P (and are plus defenders) than four ball-dominant shot creators. You only need 1-2 of those guys, then you need two shooters to space the court, and a lob threat big in the dunker spot.

You have to have at least one legitimate threat to hit threes, or you will have zero floor spacing. Two great penetrating guards, and the other team packed in like sardines.

I know this is false because all the smart Bennies on this board swore up and down that the midrange shot is LITERALLY THE WORST SHOT IN BASKETBALL.

Wilkins has a great handle on the ball, Chandler never seamed comfortable with it, under pressure.

If we don’t have a shooter or two to create space, we are ******. Period. And Michigan had some elite interior talent, we do not and will not.

Right I dont' want a team full of only one type of player. I'm saying I'd rather have a creator over a shooter, not that I only want creators. I'm essentially saying I'd rather have more well-rounded, skilled players, than a dude who can only get a shot off if he's wide open and dribbles the ball off his foot lol.

I think Wilkins might actually be my favorite add by mark Pope of any player portal/HS in his 3 seasons so far

I get that. And I think it’s an especially natural instinct after last season when so few of our players could create.

It still is the worst shot in basketball. There’s only a very few unicorns who can hit it at a high enough percentage to constitute good offense over the long run, and there’s really no proof that’s it’s less prone to nightly variation than the three. Granted for purposes of this discussion, Diallo and Wilkins were pretty close to percentage they’d need to make it an acceptable shot for them to take, but it still makes me a bit nervous that playing them together might shrink the floor unless we have some absolute marksmen at the 3 and 4.

Also Michigan’s championship game performance did absolutely nothing to prove the effectiveness of relying on the midrange. Their shot chart shows that they made one all night. They won that game on defense, paint points, and free throws. For the year, they took 25 threes per game and shot 36% on them as a team, so they were hardly bucking that trend even if they survived a cold shooting night in the final.
