Crazy to me that a true freshman QB

Seems to be ahead of a guy with one year of SEC snaps that had offers from Alabama and could have named the school he wanted to go to. Not posting a doom & gloom thread here, just very surprising to me. Next year could be grim if we have a freshman starting QB. I’m hoping the transfer portal will be fertile with QBs that can help us bridge the gap for one year next year.

I mean, I guess he will be the equivalent of a RS Freshman next year as long as Costello seems healthy. But Shrader did pretty good as a true freshman in a horribly designed and coached offense. If he is our QB2 next year (or if he transfers b/c he has been beat out), I won't be particularly worried about our QB situation (other than depth if Shrader transfers).

Rogers is a coach's son and grew up in the Air Raid

No disrespect to GS, but it's not surprising to see Rogers jump right in and thrive. This is brand new stuff for Shrader.

I thought bama and some others offered him as a WR?

Just based on what you saw on the field, I do agree that he’s got the makings of a good college QB. You can win with him for sure. But something is not right of the field with him. I heard he missed practice last year (more than once) to deer hunt. Also, something was not right with the Willie gay incident. The fact that you didn’t even hear rumors of players coming to GS defense was telling. I just don’t think he’s a good leader. Tough as nails and a talented guy though.

I take it as a positive myself. The only way not to see it as a positive is if you think Leach can not effectively evaluate QB talent. We all know what GS is and apparently this kid is a little sharper. Who knows what will play out by next season. Im sure GS will become more accustomed to the " Air Raid". My guess is he has a tendency to run a little to quick for Leach. Either way there are 2 freshmen coming in next year also.

I was curious if Rogers had possibly spent a lot of his own time with Gardner Minshew in the Spring and Summer before the NFL camps opened. He probably could have gotten a BIG head start learning the Leach offense working with Gardner in the offseason that most true FR would not have had a chance to get.

I know, crazy right? I mean look how bad Clemson was when they let a freshman beat out that Kelly Bryant guy that almost won a national championship.

Man, get out of here with this crap. If the kid can play, then play him. And Will can play.

Typical State doom & gloom.

1. Shrader didn't have an offer from AL. Not a committable one.
2. He had a significant shoulder injury in HS and is just getting back his arm strength. His accuracy is the issue right now.
3. Calling Rogers a freshman next year will only be because of Covid.
4. Leach doesn't generally start freshmen.

Of course, Robertson could roll in and be what we all think he is and be the next superstar QB in the SEC.

Agree, we'll have at least 3 quarterbacks next year, and likely 4 with Jalen Mayden if he sticks around and graduates. Granted 2 will be true freshmen, but who cares, 2021 will be rebuilding some on the offense. 2022 is the year Leach's offense should take off.

I am pretty sure Rogers and the Mustache talk pretty often.

Are you talking about the number one rated overall recruit coming out of HS? You’re comparing his situation to a guy with offers out of Troy and Tulane and ranked 600+ overall.

One trait that every QB that Leach has ever started is that they’re competitive as hell. If Rogers has that and talent then I’m all in. Schrader or not
