On the SEC Podcast, dude mention that he heard rumor that Pat Biondo was actually "fired" by the new AD for overspending. Said came from someone that would know. Anyone heard anything like that?

I did think his departure being the right hand man for stein was very strange.

Yes. Cal wanted a new practice facility and Barnhart said no. Cal said he would raise the money himself and Barnhart nixed it. So yes, Barnhart could be very punitive.

Seems odd a new AD would axe someone before the dust even settles for something that happened before he got there somewhat, unless donors insisted.

And along the way, we’ve got to make sure we’re in cahoots with the master plan of the university for spacing, as well as Title IX and gender equity, which means whatever we do for men’s programs, we got to have an equal space and equal opportunity for our women’s programs, which is critical. So that facility in that context is probably a $75-80 million facility so you're not even halfway home and we would have to figure the rest out."

This was not as simple as you believe it to be.

So if he would have started last summer we would of had a new facility five years ago. Mitch sucks. It is that simple. And Cap.


Show me another school that would turn down millions in donations to build a new facility. They would find ways to make it happen. Mitch found ways to make it not happen.

And by the way we have some of the worst basketball facilities in the SEC. This isn't 2006 anymore.

Virtually no chance. They were running off a salary cap type situation. Overspending was not possible.

Imo based on the announcement it was health or family/marital stuff. Whatever it was, it was a bad loss.

I do remember that, kinda ridiculous to not let him do that when we have billions in NBA contracts. We should leverage that every way possible imo to fundraise. Those are our legacy players who can help the future players like they had help making it in the past.
