Crazy stat from Saturday’s game

Kentucky had less than 6 minutes time of possession the entire second half. Only had 2 minutes TOP in the 4th quarter. One of the myths of the Air Raid was it would lead to short possessions that would keep our defense on the field the whole time. Thanks to Rogers’ accuracy, that has proved to be false. We are ranked sixth in the country in TOP, behind the three service academies who all run the triple option.

It's not t hanks to Rogers accuracy. Leach's teams usually are pretty high in time of possession. That myth was I think dispelled for State fans before we even had our first game with Leach I think. I know I believed it before he was hired and somebody on here pointed out it's just not true.

If Rogers was inaccurate, balls would hit the ground and the clock would stop. Seems pretty straightforward. I guess you could add "and to receivers catching the ball".

This is why Leach values accuracy in his QB’s more than any other trait. Those short to medium range passes should be completed at an extremely high rate for the offense to work. It keeps the chains moving and keeps the other team’s defense on the field for a long time. If those short to medium throws are hitting the ground, the offense grinds to a halt.
